There’s now a rear-wheel drive electric Porsche Macan with 398 miles of range

Porsche has plugged some gaps in its electric Macan lineup with two new model variants

Porsche finally unveiled the all-electric Macan at the start of this year, and it did so with two different variants – the Macan 4 and the bonkers 630bhp Macan Turbo. Those were never going to be the only options though, and now the gaps have been filled with the addition of an entry-level Macan (yeah, it’s just called Macan) and a Macan 4S.

The just-Macan is the biggest news here, because it’s the only single-motor, rear-wheel drive Macan in the range and Porsche says that it is focussed primarily on “high efficiency and range”. It uses the same rear axle motor as found in the Macan 4, meaning there’s an output of 355bhp with launch control and 335bhp in everyday driving. In other words – plenty. Maximum torque is 415lb ft and 0-62mph takes 5.7 seconds.

Top speed is 137mph, it’s 110kg lighter than a Macan 4, the battery is still 100kWh and Porsche reckons (if you don’t travel everywhere at full pelt) on a maximum WLTP range of 398 miles. Impressive.

The Macan 4S on the other hand is here to fill the space between 4 and Turbo, so it has twin motors and Porsche’s fancy torque vectoring. It uses a new rear motor and the same front motor as the 4 and the Turbo, with power sitting at 509bhp while using launch control and 442bhp more generally. Max torque is 605lb ft, 0-62mph takes 4.1 seconds and max range is 376 miles. The 4S also comes with Porsche Active Suspension Management (essentially adaptive dampers) as standard, and you can spec adaptive air suspension, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus and rear-axle steering as options.

There’s a new option for the whole Macan range with this latest update too – you can now have an ‘off-road design package’ that brings a redesigned front bumper (for a better approach angle), much plastic cladding, 21in off-road design wheels and some roof rails. Oh, and there’s a new Slate Grey Neo paint colour, plus a fresh 20in wheel design.

Porsche has confirmed that the two new Macans are available to order now, with the entry-level car starting at £67,200 in the UK. The 4S kicks off at £75,400, meaning it’s still around £20k cheaper than the Turbo.
