The new 335bhp range-topper will go on sale this summer
The ID. Buzz is the latest model to gain Volkswagen’s ‘GTX’ treatment and becomes the most powerful factory Bulli of all time in the process. This comes courtesy of a dual electric powertrain, sending 335bhp (134 up from standard) to the road through the 4Motion all-wheel drive system.
Keen on some more numbers? How about a standing run to 62mph in just 6.5s - not far off the current Golf GTI - and a limited top speed of 99mph? You can stop wowing sarcastically, now.
You also get to choose a five, six or seven-seat cabin, bolstered by the option of two wheelbase lengths: the standard size, with a 79kWh battery, or the long wheelbase, with an uprated 86kWh unit and an extra 25cm of metal.
Range estimates are yet to be revealed, but for context, the base model gets a figure of 258. Volkswagen has, however, claimed a 10-80 per cent charge time of 26 minutes using DC fast chargers.
The interior also gets a moderate upgrade, including black headliners and bespoke diamond-patterned seat upholstery, finished in black micro fleece. The familiar red stitching seen in hot VWs is also present, while a head-up display and a full panoramic sunroof, which ghosts between transparent and opaque filters, are offered as optional extras.
You’ll also spot a larger 12.9in multimedia screen and an illuminated touch bar for various controls. A new voice assistant has also found a home here, aided by none other than the AI bot that’s chasing world dominion: ChatGPT.
Pricing will be announced in due course, and we expect it to come in at around £75,000 with all options selected when pre-sales begin this summer, given the base model’s starting cost of £57,000.
