The handbuilt engine will be produced in limited numbers, Aston Martin said.
Aston Martin remains committed to electric vehicles and plans to adopt a plug-in hybrid electric drivetrain for its lineup, but the British brand is also rolling out a new V-12 engine.
Aston Martin says the redesigned V-12 engine will produce a roaring 824 hp and 738 pound-feet of torque. When Aston Martin unveiled the DBS 770 Ultimate grand touring car in early 2023, it was packed with a V-12 with 759 hp and 664 pound-feet of torque.
The redesigned engine has a strengthened cylinder block, redesigned cylinder heads and repositioned spark plugs, among other changes.
Aston Martin isn't specifying which nameplates will get the powerplant but says it will be available in its "most exclusive and limited availability models."
The engine will first appear in an unnamed new flagship model that is set to debut in 2024, the company said.
Aston Martin, perhaps offering a clue where it will be slotted, ended a statement about the new engine with the phrase, "All will be vanquished," leading some analysts to speculate the Vanquish nameplate will return.
The handbuilt engine will be produced in limited numbers, Aston Martin said.
"The V-12 engine has long been a symbol of power and prestige, but it is also a statement of engineering passion and technical prowess," Roberto Fedeli, Aston Martin's chief technical officer, said in a statement.
Some Aston Martin rivals such as Lamborghini and Ferrari plan to keep V-12 engines. Bentley, meanwhile, is ending production of its 12-cylinder engine, arranged in a W formation rather than a V shape, this year.
Aston Martin's all-electric lineup, while delayed, will include a crossover, a coupe-style crossover, a sports car and a hypercar all engineered and built on the same platform. The four vehicles have been designed, but deliveries will start in 2027 — two years later than planned amid uncertainty around customer demand — Aston Martin Chairman Lawrence Stroll told journalists in April.
