This 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder was built by Vintage Motorcars of Hawaiian Gardens, California, in 1998. It comes equipped with a 4-speed manual transmission paired with a 2.2-liter Type 1 flat-four engine featuring dual Weber 44 IDF carburetors, CB Performance connecting rods, 044 cylinder heads, and a stainless-steel exhaust system. The car is finished in silver with red accents and equipped with LED headlights, a padded headrest fairing, 15” wide-five steel wheels, low-back bucket seats, Sabelt lap belts, a banjo-style steering wheel, adjustable rear coilovers, and four-wheel disc brakes. Showing approximately 16k miles on the odometer, this professionally built Porsche 550 Spyder replica is now being offered for auction out of Ohio.
The car features a tube-frame chassis overlaid by replica 550 Spyder fiberglass bodywork finished in silver with red painted taillight spears. Equipment includes a padded driver’s headrest fairing, leather clamshell straps, a polished hood-mounted fuel filler cap, a faired driver’s side mirror, LED headlights, a center-mounted exhaust tailpipe, gold Spyder badging, and Karosserie Wendler Reutlingen fender badges. The car rides on 15” wide-five steel wheels with new Hankook Synergy ST tires mounted in October 2024. The seller notes the front and rear were refinished along with the red taillight spears in October 2024. The badges, taillight lenses, front turn signal lenses, and exterior trim were also replaced during this time.
The cockpit is lined with charcoal carpeting and features a pair of low-back bucket seats in red upholstery. Accessories include Sabelt lap belts, a three-spoke banjo-style steering wheel, an ivory-colored gear knob, a brake bias adjuster, a rearview mirror, and a painted dashboard with vintage-style gauges. An electrical system cutoff and oil cooler switch are mounted behind the driver’s seat.
Rebuilt in 2015, the 2.2-liter Type 1 flat-four engine dual Weber 44 IDF carburetors, 044 cylinder heads, CB Performance connecting rods, a stainless-steel exhaust, a heavy-duty oil pump, and an external oil cooler with a manually-switched electric fan. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transaxle and stopping power is handled by disc brakes at each corner. The suspension features adjustable coilovers at the rear. The fuel pump was replaced in May 2023 and service in 2024 included replacing the front wheel bearings, cable shifter assembly, alternator belt, valve cover gaskets, distributor cap/rotor, spark plugs, wires, and fuel lines. The valves were adjusted, the valve covers were refinished, and the clutch master cylinder and right-rear brake calipers were cleaned.
This sale will include service records and a clean Ohio title for a 1955 Porsche Spyder.

@FluTangClan Yes, we plan to put a different driver in the car. Clutch operates great, and you see in the gallery a new clutch linkage assembly, master, and fluid system bleed were all performed this year. Also we welcome anyone to inspect the car in person.
@Chipper I am more concerned that the the driver does not know how to drive stick and was slipping the clutch by accident. More additional driving will continue to further burn up the clutch so I hope there is a driver replacement in the new video. Also a full throttle top gear pull pls.
We have not experienced any clutch slipping, and as mentioned in the comment just below yours we are going to record another driving video when the Ohio December weather allows.

Any updates on the slipping clutch issue?
@Munich911 The bouncy tach and fiberglass are in process, and hopefully done by end of the day Monday. I will report back once they're completed. We are just waiting for it to stop raining and snowing, and we will record a new driving video.
@Afsharjavan No there should not be, I am 6' tall 225lb and fit with no issues.
Any issues with fitting a 6' tall 240lb body into the drivers seat?

Very nice car. It was listed on BAT around a week ago. Has the bouncy tach and fiberglass in the trunk been addressed? Also, there was some discussion about the clutch slipping. Can you please post a new driving video going through the gears? Thanks in advance.

Hello, I will be available throughout the auction to answer any questions. Take a look in the gallery to see the recent and extensive amount of both mechanical and cosmetic work that was performed to make this the exceptional example it now is.
