Available for auction is an original painting by Lance Grootboom of Lance Artworx featuring the 1970 Porsche 917K Salzburg. This original painting was done with acrylic paint on 55.11” x 27.55” Canvas. The seller states the painting will include a Certificate of Authenticity and will be shipped to the buyer unframed in a solid, custom-made, heavy-duty postal tube.
The 1970 Porsche 917K Salzburg brought home Porsche's first overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Salzburg red and white livery was made up of the colors of the Austrian flag and those of Porsche Salzburg, Porsche's factory racing team at the time. At the 1970 Le Mans race, this car finished first ahead of just six other cars, with heavy rains turning the Circuit de la Sarthe into any 600-plus-horsepower racecar's worst nightmare. Even with the 917 K's improved handling and stability over the original model, it would be drivers Hans Herrmann and Richard Attwood's finesse that brought the No. 23 car its fame and glory.
"As an artist, it is my utmost privilege to have the insight, talent, and skills to create the type of artwork that affects inspires, and moves. Like most artists, I started drawing at a very young age. I grew up in the northern suburbs of Port Elizabeth, South Africa. My home town is known for its wind, beaches, and Victorian landmarks, and its friendly residents have earned the moniker, “The Friendly City”. Unfortunately, formal art education was prohibitively expensive where I grew up and as a result, my path to becoming a professional artist was by necessity self-taught. Crayons and crude pencils were traded for industry-standard graphite and pastels and premium grade acrylics eventually supplanted those on canvas. As my skills matured and my technique became more precise, my art and my passion for cars converged, with this union ultimately becoming my profession. I combine passion, attention to detail, high-quality modern materials and techniques ranging from classical to cutting edge, and experimental to create one-of-a-kind pieces unique to the vision of each commission. While I have a penchant for greats like Claus Luthe, designer of the BMW E30, and Ferdinand Porsche, my design palette is broad and eclectic, with an appreciation for the classics and admiration for the modern aesthetic."
