This 1967 Ford Mustang is said to have been originally owned in Pasadena, California, and was factory-equipped with a 200ci straight-six engine and a C4 automatic transmission. It was sold to the current owner’s family in New York 35 years ago where it was driven regularly before moving to Virginia and stored for the next 20 years. This Mustang was only recently subjected to a partial mechanical restoration including a 5-lug hub conversion with front disc brakes, an 8" rear axle, and an upgraded 289ci V8 engine. The ideal candidate for a full restoration or custom build, this Ford Mustang project car is now being offered for auction at no reserve by its seller out of Virginia.
Originally finished in Seafoam Green, the unpainted body includes chrome bumpers and trim, headlamps, taillights, an aftermarket passenger rocker cover, a vented GT-style hood, and a driver’s side mirror. The car rides on a set of aftermarket 15” alloy wheels mounted on 5-lug hubs. The exterior shows surface corrosion from incomplete paint preparation as well as a crease on the passenger door, body filler on the fenders, corrosion on the bumpers, pitting chrome trim, and cracking rubber seals. The seller adds that the tires show late 2017 production date codes. Additional images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin features black and green vinyl upholstery with green carpets, a three-spoke steering wheel, analog gauges, a floor-mounted gear selector, and an aftermarket Dual XC4100 AM/FM cassette stereo. The seller notes the door cards and several trim pieces are missing from the interior, although most are accounted for and are included in the sale. The steering wheel shows cracks, the floors under the carpets show surface rust, the seats are worn, and the interior requires a thorough cleaning. Recently, a new battery was installed and the gauges are reported to be functional.
This Mustang is equipped with a 289ci V8 engine that sends power to the rear wheels through a C4 3-speed automatic transmission. The engine has been upgraded with an Edelbrock 289 Performer intake manifold, carburetor, and aluminum radiator as well as aftermarket headers and a side-exit exhaust. Other upgrades include front disc brakes and an 8” rear axle. The seller states the car starts, drives, and shifts through all of the gears and the brakes function although they may require bleeding and additional service.

The seller would like you to know: “Like so many projects started in earnest, this 1967 Mustang has yet to get to the finish line. Late in recent ownership a mechanical restoration took it a step closer to completion and may soon put this car into the category of the drivable project car. While the current owner was overseas their friend undertook the V8 swap along with supporting modifications. The vehicle has not been started or driven in 7 months though an attempt at starting and driving will be made before the auction's end. This car has a fun and somewhat menacing presence with the Bondo meets surface-corrosion Mad Max patina. Despite the rough and neglected exterior this Mustang somehow maintains an alluring presence. With a V8 swap, 5-lug conversion, and otherwise solid body/chassis, this may be a suitable starting point for your next project. I'm looking forward to your participation in the auction. @MAC21672 thank you for asking. That loud metal clanking was the direct result of the gravel driveway assaulting the bottom of the Mustang. It was worth the ride!

@MAC21672 asked an excellent question. Will this car start, engage in gear and have working brakes where it can drive up on a trailer? Yes, the start and run video are an honest portrayal of this Mustang. It will start on the key and drive. The brakes are very soft and the pads may be glazed. No late braking, please! Sold my 67 mustang just like this back in 2006, only had to do paint, but times was a little rough and sold it to add on to my house. Would be neat to own another one to maybe complete one day, looks like a good candidate.
