Available for auction is a remarkable kinetic engine display created by Greg Stirling in 2025, showcasing a 3.6-liter Type 911 997.1 (99610099703) flat-six engine originally produced for a 2005 Porsche Carrera. Portions of the engine case have been artfully cut away to reveal the mesmerizing motion of the internal components, powered by a Dayton DC gearmotor with variable speed control ranging from 10–60 RPM.![]()
The engine was meticulously disassembled, sandblasted, machined, and reassembled using a mix of mirror-painted, vapor-honed, and polished finishes, complemented by stainless-steel timing chains and ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene dry-running piston sleeves. ![]()
Mounted on a beautifully crafted walnut base with a hand-rubbed oil finish, the display is accented by a genuine full-color Porsche crest and “Carrera” emblem. Additional features include a Morse torque-limiting clutch, timing belt drive, dual circuit breakers, and a standard computer power entry module with a detachable cord. ![]()
Bearing its original Porsche serial number M96/0569505226, this authentic 997.1 flat-six comes with a Certificate of Authenticity and measures 32″ wide, 25″ deep, and 18″ tall, weighing approximately 254 pounds.![]()

@Jaltman01 Hello Mr. Altman, there happens to be a flat surface ideal for placing glass on top of this piece. I did add a few photos.

Is there enough clearance of the moving parts to place a glass table top?
Unfortunately it is beyond my reach financially. This is one of the coolest Porsche artifacts ever. Thank you Greg for your efforts and the results, sooo cool.

Hello @analogmike,
Rear IMS is tight and sealed with no play whatsoever. Front IMS bearing in good condition was removed from the oil pump assembly. Both are now accessible and serviceable. Since there’s no combustion or compression in this engine, and lightweight valve springs are installed, There’s effectively little or no load on any of these bearings. This engine can be hand cranked with only 4 foot pounds of torque…
Good luck and happy bidding!
