Developed as a street-legal racing for FIA Group 4 Sports Car homologation requirements in 1966, the Porsche 906 or Carrera 6 remains one of the brand’s most iconic and successful race cars of the era. This recreation was built between 2020 and 2021 by a Porsche 906 specialist in Southern France. It features a steel tubular spaceframe chassis with green-painted fiberglass bodywork, red bucket seats, plexiglass side windows, independent coil-sprung suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, a side-shift 5-speed manual transaxle, and a modified 2.7-liter Type 911/81 flat-six engine. Purchased by the seller and imported to the U.S. earlier in 2024, this road-registered 906 re-creation is now being offered for auction out of Georgia.
This car wears replica 906 fiberglass bodywork mounted to a tubular steel spaceframe chassis. The frame bears a stamp of serial number 0000RIGIN2198726B, and the car’s prior French registration indicates that the chassis was first put into circulation in 1986 and officially registered in 1999. The body is finished in green and wears dual bullet-style chrome mirrors, lightweight plexiglass side windows, a louvered plexiglass engine cover, a vented quick-release front hood panel, “Carrera 6” front fender decals, rear “PORSCHE” lettering, and silver wheels dressed in 195/60 Mazzini ECO605 tires up front and 215/60 Habilead Comfort Max tires in the rear.
The lightweight racing-style cockpit is equipped with low-back red bucket seats, a black fiberglass dashboard, and a black leather three-spoke steering wheel. Accessories include a polished shift knob, window vents, an electrical system cutoff switch, a quick-release steering wheel hub, and an 8k-rpm tachometer. There is no odometer and the car's total mileage is unknown.
The car is powered by a mid-mounted 2.7-liter Type 911/81 flat-six engine modified by a French Porsche specialist. It features dual triple-throat Weber carburetors with polished intake trumpets, an RS-style lightweight flywheel, and a front-mounted oil cooler. The rear wheels are driven through a reinforced side-shift 5-speed manual transaxle derived from a Porsche 914. The chassis includes four-wheel independent suspension with double wishbones and coil springs, and four-wheel disc brakes with dual master cylinders and a bias adjuster. Service performed under the seller’s ownership between September and October 2024 includes new spark plugs, an oil change, and carburetor tuning by Jack Lewis Enterprises in Atlanta, Georgia. The seller recommends a brake service and wheel alignment be performed by the next owner as the car has not been driven regularly over the past three years.
This sale will include a Georgia registration. A reproduction chassis plate, stamped with serial number 2198726B, is mounted in the front compartment and serves as the car’s identification number on the Georgia registration document, which describes it as a 1966 Porsche 906 Replica.
