@Guitarman in 1968 when Schwinn introduced the Krate series bikes , they didn't have a front fender ... however in 1969 one was added
This is an early production model that features the Orange Line Knobby rear tire & Pogo seat post ( seat post was discontinued because of safety concerns, allegedly by Ralph Nader)

Understood and agree, thanks!
@NOLABOY62 the tire is original to the bike which makes it 56 years old... don't see too many cars with original tires, do you?
The tire is fine, however riding on it could be an issue??
Just curious, in some of the pictures the rear tire looks somewhat deflated, is the rear tire good and does it hold pressure?
Bid in the amount of $1,100
@NOLABOY62 we have been collecting, buying & selling Schwinn Sting-ray bikes (and Krates) for over 35 years. We have had some of the best examples in the world pass through our hands... this is a nice example.
Thanks for your rapid and helpful response.
@NOLABOY62 Great observation...the early 1968 Orange Krates came with the rear Orange Line Knobby tire (rare) as well as the "pogo" seat post which was outlawed for safety. This bike has both
The reserve price reflects the investment quality.
Thanks

@OttoBozart The pedals were removed and they are under the seat, this prevents scratching the bike next to it when displaying
I remember wanting one of these in the worst way. Even today, it looks like a freakin' cool machine, as I remember it. Such advanced tech and styling for the day.
Original pedals are going to cost you an additional $125 on E Bay
My best friend growing up had this exact bike, we moved on to SL 100’s, XT 500 Yamahas, Ducatis’ and Toyota Celicas GTs’. My next text will let him in on this auction.
Bid in the amount of $800
