Available for auction is a collection of 39 Alfa Romeo factory blueprints featuring numerous models spanning over decades and 2 Alfa Romeo pins with a hand-painted marque badge. The seller states the blueprints were a gift to his grandfather’s friend Luigi Fusi who worked for Alfa Romeo.
Luigi Fusi joined Alfa Romeo in 1920 as an archivist in the technical department. In 1955 Fusi was appointed Head of Control Drawings, a position he retained until his retirement in 1967. During this time at Alfa Romeo, Fusi and his team were instructed to redraw and preserve many original pre-war Alfa Romeo blueprints as many were damaged during WWII. Fusi later became a curator for the marque’s Hall of Fame and wrote what many consider to be the authority on the company’s vintage and classic models, Alfa Romeo, Tutte Le Vetture Dal 1910 (All Cars From 1910). Several of the blueprints bear Fusi’s name.
The drawings are applied to technical acetate tracing paper, which was used in the Alfa Romeo workshops in Arese, Milan to duplicate the master engineering blueprints for use elsewhere. Several of the documents feature a red “Richiesto Da Dipre” stamp, meaning they were requested by Alfa Romeo’s special projects and experiences division, possibly for developmental research. While most factory documents are thought to have been destroyed shortly after the Fiat takeover in the mid-eighties, a small number were retained by employees, making them rare and sought-after pieces of Italian motoring history. The blueprints measure 33.4” x 25.4”.
Whether you are an Alfa Romeo enthusiast or a collector of automobilia and automotive history, this collection of blueprints share a rare glimpse into the design and innovation of the iconic automotive manufacturers legacy. @millstoneman the measurement is in centimeters.
The photo measuring the badge and pins, is that in inches or centimeters?
@millstoneman The blueprints will be shipped in safe packaging, rolled and unfolded, the pins will have dedicated packaging.
How do you intend to package these prints without folding them for safe shipping? Would the other items be shipped in a separate box so that they would not damage the prints?
