Now available for auction at no reserve is this 1987 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe finished in Black. The flagship Porsche 911 of its day, this Turbo came generously optioned with a limited-slip differential, Burgundy leather upholstery, and heated front seats with adjustable lumbar support. Delivered to its original owner at the Porsche factory through the Tourist Delivery Program on January 28th, 1987, this Turbo was imported to the U.S. where it was serviced through Beverly Hills Porsche during the early years of its life. It later changed hands between owners in Colorado, Tennessee, South Carolina, and most recently Indiana. In the last several years, this 930 has been upgraded with a Fabspeed intercooler and exhaust system while also undergoing some noteworthy service items. This classic air-cooled Turbo is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York showing approximately 63k miles on the odometer.
This 930 comes finished in nonmetallic Black and features Fabspeed quad exhaust tips, a rear window wiper, a periscope-style third brake light, and black rear quarter stone guards. An invoice from 2018 shows the front hood to have been refinished to address a cosmetic imperfection along with modifications to the rear bumper to accommodate the aftermarket exhaust tips. The condition of the exterior is described as commensurate with the car’s age and mileage, showing light pitting on the windshield and minor signs of road-going wear throughout the body. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report. The 16” Fuchs wheels come dressed in a set of Pirelli tires dated from 2018.
Inside, you will find an attractive Burgundy leather interior with matching carpets, optional front seat heating, and adjustable lumbar support. Other factory features include an alarm system, air conditioning, power windows, and an electric sliding sunroof. A few small cracks are depicted on the dashboard along with some wear to the driver seat bolster. The sound system has been upgraded with an Alpine Bluetooth radio, amplifier, and aftermarket speakers. Records show the replacements of the sunroof seals, windshield seal, and weatherstripping all within the last several years. All gauges and accessories are said to remain fully functional including the A/C which was serviced in March of 2019.
Power comes from a turbocharged and intercooled 3.3L flat-six engine rated at 282 HP and 289 lb.-ft of torque stock. The rear wheels are driven through a 4-speed manual transmission and a factory-optioned limited-slip differential. An upgraded Fabspeed intercooler was installed by Redstone Performance Engineering of Indianapolis in 2018 along with upgraded silicone intake hoses, air filter, and a Fabspeed performance exhaust system with upgraded heat exchangers and wastegate outlet. Service items addressed in recent years include new heater control valve cables, a heater control module, drive-belt adjustment, shift linkage and pedal assembly repair, new rear parking brake shoes, a brake fluid flush, and a new oil crossover pipe. Corresponding invoices are provided for reference in the photo gallery.
This sale will include the original owner's manuals and sales literature, a set of two keys, a toolkit, some service records, and a clean title. Offered at no reserve, this nicely presented '87 Turbo presents an excellent opportunity to own one of the most iconic air-cooled Porsches of all time.

@Raposa Well said and as this is a complete header/exhaust system (beyond cat back) with NO catalytic converter, I doubt it will pass the sniff test either. Yes, there are "guys" that may "smog" it, but this beyond a cat back system so might be harder to find. Still a nice car and if you don't care about smog (like me), it's worth entertaining.

I spoke with him on the phone the other day and explained that I was NOT INTERESTED in ANY trades for this transaction, from him or anyone else.
And again... trades have no bearing on an auction or the bidding anyway. A trade only affects how payment is received after one wins an auction. Have a look at my earlier response to the trade question (the big, long one below) as to the mechanics of trades and how they're worked into auctions if you're interested.

@agt6381 Back to that CA question from last week. I spoke with a Fabspeed representative this morning and they say that this system should pass CA emissions (they guarantee all 'cat back' systems to pass the emissions test) but it may not pass the 'visual test.'
That said, let me be clear... I am not guaranteeing this car will pass anything, anywhere. I am no emissions expert or a master Porsche technician, or any technician of any kind in fact.
However, I do know that there are many Fabspeed systems, just like this one, currently on the road in CA, according to the Fabspeed representative I spoke to. It's an out-of-the-box system... it's not some crazy racing set up from Andial or anything.
This car will never pass a visual in California if it's a legit by the book inspection. That said, stuff gets "smogged" there all the time.

@Abuong01 Hi, sorry, I don’t know how I missed your question. I didn’t even notice the mileage you point out on the receipts from Redstone. The odometer works (as well as the trip odometer) and the mileage is true and correct to the best of my knowledge, I have no reason to doubt it at all. In any case, the Carfax (and title) show that it was purchased with 58,200 miles by most recent owner in 2017. Indiana actually prints mileage on the title that’s reported on the paperwork by the new registrant requesting the title, lots of states don’t.

I've had a couple of emails from people interested in this car worried that the auction will end if I decide to take a trade for this car. THAT WILL NOT HAPPEN. This is a no reserve auction, high bidder on Pcarmarket is the new owner of the car.
A trade only affects how payment is received, not how the auction is conducted. Say the high, winning bid is $100,000. If there is a trade that the high bidder and I have AGREED BEFORE A BID WAS EVER PLACED is a $50,000 car in trade value (after I see hundreds of photos of it, a couple videos, maybe even go and see it myself... just like all of you get to do with the car being auctioned), I would accept that car along with $50,000 cash as full payment for the 930 here.
A trade has no bearing on the bidding or the auction, only the payment.
What is NOT ACCEPTABLE is to be the high bidder then say, "I have a couple cars I want to trade." You should be prepared to send a wire transfer for the full, high bid amount in a timely manner, after the auction ends and you receive a bill of sale.
I'm guessing most everyone knows this, but there has been some confusing and I've received several DMs with questions, so I wanted to make this all very clear.
Also, I spoke with the guy interested in trading some cars for this one this morning, very nice guy, a serious car guy with some neat cars, who had a 930 when he 'was younger.' The first thing he said when we got the on the phone was 'Why are you selling this car with no reserve? Are you crazy? That car's worth $100 grand'
I'm not crazy. Yes, I am very familiar with the Porsche 930 market of today (and ten years ago). Quite simply, I believe in the Pcarmarket platform and I believe there will be enough real buyers with checkbooks at the end to bring a correct market price for this car on Monday afternoon. Will I sweat a little bit towards the end? Yeah, I probably will, but that's part of the fun.

@JayBo I just had a great ‘87 coupe with just under 19k miles in my inventory, didn’t make it to any auction platform after an email to my network, but it was a great car. A 911 of that era is the only collector car anyone will ever need, they can do it ALL, except the Mille Miglia Storica or something like that.

There's one that covers the ZZZ VIN Concern you mentioned. That was how Porsche did them back then. hope this helps.

@agt6381 VINs in the “frunk” are all ZZZ, that’s how Porsche did it, at least in the 80s. You can see the same phenomenon on the 1986 moss green metallic 911 that’s currently on pcarmarket as well. That seller didn’t take a close up of the vin in that location, but his photos without the carpet in place are close enough and high enough res that you can zoom in and see the ZZZ. You can also Google your concern and see it answered every which way on PCA and Pelican forums. Lots of people ask that question, most, probably freaking out when looking a car over that they just bought, wondering how big a mistake they made… no mistake at all.
I’m not sure about CA emissions, but I’ll reach out to the shop that installed the system and ask them and even call Fabspeed if I have to and get back to you.
@TobinMotorsWorks. The vin numbers posted bothers me. The vins on door jam and others show US spec car. The vin stamping above the gas tank shows this WP0ZZZ93ZHS050577 which is for rest of the world vins. I've owned one of these in the past and I don't recall having two different vin stampings from factory. Please look. Can this be registered in CA? I know you mentioned that it spent time in Beverly Hills, still have to ask.

@Abuong01 It can be tough to get enough in the frame to give a good reference of which area the meter is on and get the meter reading clearly. The photos in the auction are in order... I started at the front driver's side, right by the head light and made my way down the driver's side, around the back of the car and up the other side, then did the hood and roof last. The highest readings are on the rear passenger's side fender. Whatever work was done was well done, there are no sanding marks or dust in the paint, the black appears very even all the way around the car. Hope that helps.
The hood was repainted by the current owner in February 2018, at the same time it got the Fabspeed stuff at Redstone, it appears on that service record (included in the photo gallery). "Paint - Customer request front hood be painted to repair area rubbed off by previous owner" So, I'm guessing that might have been a burn through with a buffer?
It is a bit hard to identify which part of the car has the higher paint meter readings. Looks like some on the hood, can you explain the other locations. Can we assume paint work was carried out at some point.

Good morning Pcarmarket.
As you've probably noticed, this is my first offering on this online auction platform. I've been selling on that 'other online auction site' since 2016, but I thought this would be a good car to try Pcarmarket out with. Please google me, my dealership or my websites (mostly Mercedes-centric) if you want to learn about me, how I deal, etc. I take a bazillion photos and try to present cars transparently and honestly, nobody wants a surprise when a car rolls off the transporter.
The owner of this car passed away last year, quite unexpectedly. His brother, and executor of the estate, is a friend and client at Tobin Motor Works who owns mostly Mercedes-Benz cars. When his brother passed away he called me about selling the Porsches, this 930 and a very nice 2005 997 S cab that's currently in my inventory.
He was a long time Porsche enthusiast and had several Pcars before these two, but the 930 was the car he had always wanted, unfortunately he was only able to enjoy it for a few years before he passed away suddenly.
Unfortunately the family cleaned out and sold the house before the cars. I'm told there was a folder with a bunch of paperwork that came with the car, but nobody thought to keep it with the car and it was discarded. I was able to contact the shop where the car was serviced, Redstone Performance Engineering, a well known and respected Porsche specialist in Indianapolis. They sent me the service records they had in their computer system from the last few years. I was glad to see the details of the Fabspeed modifications there. @deusebio asked about dyno charts post Fabspeed, there aren't any. I can say that the exhaust system sounds fabulous, an absolute hoot.
I've put about 200 miles on this car in the past couple of months and it is a a real pleasure to drive. It's tame and well mannered... until you hit about 4,000 rpms, then, you better be paying attention. It is solid, tight and very responsive.
In terms of needs... it needs a new driver's side exterior mirror glass, you'll see that it's missing. The electric mirror motor works and does adjust that piece.
There is a pretty serious stereo system in this car, not really my cup of tea (or skill set). I found the in-line fuse in the glovebox when the car arrived and I've been unable to power on the stereo even after installing that fuse, so there may be some sorting to be done there. All the music you need while driving this car comes from 5' behind you.
Lastly, there is a small oil leak coming from the right side of the engine. I don't know exactly where it's coming from, but it leaves a few drops of oil under the very right rear of the car over a few days.
I'm around all week and will be happy to answer any questions you've got, take more photos, a video, whatever. If you're interested in coming to my showroom to see or drive they car, that's fine too, we'll just need to set it up in advance.

@PM27 The second half of the video is the downhill... you can see the steep grade sign on the right side of the road.
@PM27 You're hearing the 'burble' from the exhaust, this video is shot going down a very steep hill and it burbles much of the way down while I'm coasting.
What is the "rubbing" or "clanking" noise when coasting? sounds rotational as it is consistent with the pace of movement.
