Available for auction is an early Austin Mini Cooper dealership sign, believed to date to the late 1960s. The sign features a yellow translucent panel along with individually-cut blue and orange letters spelling out the brand and mark name, similar in style and format to other commonly seen British lightbox-style signs. According to the seller, variations of these signs would have been provided to Austin dealerships and service centers during the 1960s. This sign was manufactured in England and was acquired by the seller in 2022.
The sign features a painted steel case framing a single-sided sign face. Patina is evident on the sign's face itself, as can be seen in the photographs. While some of this is shop dust/grime that can be easily cleaned, the seller has opted to keep it in its original found condition to maintain originality. The steel case has a few minor scratches and dings on the exterior. The sign measures approximately 18" wide by 12" tall by 4" deep. Inside the lightbox, illumination is provided by standard incandescent bulbs and a top-mounted power cable.
Under the seller's ownership, the original hardwiring has been professionally converted to US-spec 120V circuitry with a US-spec wall plug, cloth-wrapped writing, and an inline switch for safety's sake. "These signs often come to us with outdated European wiring and we don't feel comfortable selling them like that so we endeavor to have them professionally re-wired before being auctioned"
