Available for auction is a 1951 Porsche 356 SL Gmund Coupe #46 original fine art painting by Lance Grootboom. The 1951 Porsche 356 SL Gmünd Coupe is the first Porsche sports car developed for racing, and it’s the first to have notched up a victory for the German firm, in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Four of these Aluminium 356s, chosen for their light weight, were converted into race cars, known as the 356 SL Gmünd Coupes. Two were prototypes and two were entered in the 1951 24 Hours of Le Mans. Unfortunately, one of the two cars entered in the race crashed during practice.

It meant that only one car ended up racing, the one you see here. Incredibly, it went on to win in its class, for 1.1-liter cars, and was 19th overall. The seller states the painting is 100% hand-painted with high-quality acrylic paint on canvas. The painting measures 39.37” in height with a length of 27.55”. The painting includes a certificate of authenticity and will be shipped to the buyer un-framed, in a solid heavy-duty postal tube, for safety.

The seller states “As an artist, it is my utmost privilege to have the insight, talent, and skills to create the type of artwork that inspires and moves. Like most artists, I started drawing at a very young age. I grew up in the northern suburbs of Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Unfortunately, formal art education was prohibitively expensive where I grew up and as a result, my path to becoming a professional artist was by necessity, self-taught.

Crayons and crude pencils were traded for industry-standard graphite, pastels, and premium-grade acrylics eventually supplanted those on canvas. As my skills matured and my technique became more precise, my art and my passion for cars converged, with this union ultimately becoming my profession. I combine passion, attention to detail, high-quality modern materials and techniques ranging from classical to cutting edge, and experimental to create one-of-a-kind pieces unique to the vision of each commission. While I have a penchant for greats like Claus Luthe, designer of the BMW E30, and Ferdinand Porsche, my design palette is broad and eclectic, with an appreciation for the classics and admiration for the modern aesthetic.” Don’t miss your opportunity to add a touch of sophistication to any living space with this incredible work of art. The buyer is responsible for shipping, handling, and transactional fees. PCARMARKET is not responsible for anything lost or damaged during shipping.
