The lightest and most performance-focused version of the Porsche 987.2 model line, the Cayman R sheds 121 lbs. compared to the contemporary Cayman S while gaining a more powerful 3.4-liter flat-six engine, a lowered sport-tuned suspension, a limited-slip differential, an exterior Aerokit, 19” forged wheels, and a lightweight interior. Finished in Carrara White over a Black interior, this 2012 example has been further modified for track use with racing harnesses, data-logging cameras, a digital logging system, a roll bar, H&R sway bars, RSS adjustable toe/bump steer arms, RSS front control arms, a Tubi exhaust, and more. Showing less than 20k miles on the odometer, it has been used primarily as a track car by the past two owners and is now being offered for auction by the seller out of Georgia, accompanied by a recent pre-purchase inspection.
The Cayman R weighs 120 lbs. less than a standard 987.2 Cayman S, utilizing lightweight aluminum doors and 19” forged wheels sourced from the Boxster Spyder. This example is finished in Carrara White with contrasting black Porsche logo side stripes, mirror caps, side air intakes, and rear spoiler. Options include bi-xenon headlights with PDLS and Dynamic Cornering, automatically dimming mirrors with a rain sensor, and black-painted wheels. Other equipment includes integrated fog lights, clear side marker lenses, red brake calipers, an added front tow hook, and Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires from 2020. Paint protection film covers the front bumper, windshield, hood, leading edge of the roof, side skirts, forward-facing areas of the rear quarter panels, and the lower portion of the rear bumper behind the wheels. The seller notes a rock chip on the windshield and scrapes on the front bumperettes. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The lightweight interior features red cloth door pull straps, a hoodless instrument cluster, body-colored trim pieces, a painted center console, a three-spoke SportDesign steering wheel, and carbon fiber Sport Bucket Seats. This example has been fitted with a roll cage, Schroth Racing harnesses, Rennline aluminum floor mats, forward-facing and interior-mounted data logging cameras, a Race Keeper data system, and a Brey-Krause fire extinguisher mount. Automatic air conditioning, PCM with navigation, and the Sport Chrono Package Plus are also equipped. Some wear is noted on the seat bolsters and floor mats, although all gauges, electronics, and accessories are confirmed to be in proper working order.
The Cayman R is powered by a mid-mounted 3.4-liter flat-six engine rated at 330 HP, an increase of 10 HP over the contemporary Cayman S. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission. Standard equipment includes a limited-slip differential and a lowered sport-tuned suspension with stiffer springs and anti-roll bars. Modifications consist of Gyrodisc rotors and pads at all four corners, an H&R sway bar, RSS adjustable toe/bump steer arms, RSS front control arms, and a Tubi exhaust system. A major service was performed less than 2,000 miles ago, which included new rotors and front pads, while the oil was changed less than 500 miles ago.
This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, a car cover, and a Rennline battery mounting tray.
The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for visiting our Cayman R auction! This car has been meticulously maintained with a major service performed less than 2,000 miles ago, which also changed rotors and front pads. Oil was changed less than 500 miles ago, and the car has been driven sparingly since.”

gpmotors loves their Rs, :). I just bought a manual R locally, otherwise I would have been bidding on this one. Probably would have suited me better with the PDK and track mods, but I'll certainly enjoy the manual.

@Kailua808 Yes. The car has only been to the track once in the past 5,000 miles and has had multiple oil changes in that time frame
Was the oil serviced after track days. For a track-driven Cayman R, many experts and owners recommend oil changes every 2–3 track days, or every 1,500–3,000 miles if the car sees mixed street and track use, versus the standard 10,000-mile interval for street-only driving
@Kailua808 There is not, DME reports are only for manual cars. However, if a buyer would like to set up a compression test we would be happy to work with them on that. After the PPI was performed it was deemed not necessary.
It's PDK
Is there a DME report for engine over revs
Thanks
@jbishop33 yes the headliner is beginning to sag
Is the headliner starting to sag or is that just appearances? Pic #76

Great! Thank you
@56spyder it may just be optics. We don’t see the exhaust hanging lower and it was not brought up during the PPI
@Rks05370 We know that compression tests are common on these cars. After the inspection we had done, it was determined that it was not needed. However, if the buyer would like to have it done before purchase we are happy to set it up locally for someone.
@GG28 they are great cars! To answer your questions, the exhaust does not have valves but it is not too loud. You could drive through the neighborhood with no complaints! There are no upgraded intake systems and the car does not have an ECU tune. Tread photos have been added to the gallery!

Great spec for a hybrid weekend / track car! I miss my white 987.2 Spyder I just sold on rennlist earlier this year, so may need to get back in the seat! A few quick questions:
1. Does the Tubi exhaust have valves that can be open / closed (similar to factory PSE / some other aftermarket systems)?
2. Is there any IPD Plenum or other improved intake installed?
3. Any ECU tune? If so, which one (e.g. Softronic)?
4. How much tread is left on the existing P4S's?
Thank you very much in advance! Awesome car - I can't speak highly enough of these.
Any Pdk cooling?
Compression Test?
Thanks for your response and the additional photos. Photos 90 & 93 have the passenger side exhaust hanging lower than the driver side. Is that just optics, or is the right side actually hanging lower?
Undercarriage and exhaust photos have been added to the gallery!
@56spyder which photo are you seeing damage? To our knowledge there is no damage to the car apart from the scrapes shown on the underside of the front bumper. More undercarriage photos will be provided this afternoon
Can you confirm. It looks like the right side exhaust has been tweaked. Is this correct? Was there any other undercarriage damage? Can we see some pictures?
@jbishop33 we will try to get it on a lift today for some more photos
@flat6FL The last three photos of the gallery is the full inspection report. They posted out of order
Would appreciate more/better under carriage pictures. Thanks
Could you please post page two in page three of the inspection report? Thank you

Wow, the owner must live in an area w/ really smooth highways. Any lowered track prep car I've ridden in beats you to death on normal roads. Still a nice car.
@HelpMeHelpU unfortunately not from the previous owners. But we do know that the current owner has put just about 3,000 miles on the car total and only took it to the track once
Bid in the amount of $33,987
Any idea how many actual track miles?

@zachlangan Thank you for the additional info!
I found the window sticker for this car in a previous listing from 2019 on Rennlist. The car originally came with heated sport seats, evidenced by the seat heater buttons which were not available with the carbon buckets seats. The car was factory optioned with pretty much every one of the typical options other than PSE. The carbon buckets were added later by an owner. This is an ideal dual-purpose track/street car. GLWA
