The pinnacle of the Porsche 987 series, the Cayman R is an uncompromising sports car featuring a 330-horsepower 3.4-liter flat-six engine, a lowered sport-tuned suspension, a limited-slip differential, an exterior Aerokit, 19” forged wheels, and a special lightweight interior. Finished in Guards Red over a Black interior, this 2012 example is equipped with a 6-speed manual transaxle, Sport Bucket Seats, the Sport Chrono Package, Sport Exhaust System, automatic climate control, Sound Package Plus, and Bi-Xenon Headlights with Dynamic Cornering. It was also modified for track use under previous ownership with Schroth racing harnesses, a roll cage, Pagid brake pads, slotted rotors, a TechArt rear wing, and a GT3-style front bumper vent. Showing approximately 32k miles on the odometer, this Cayman R is now being offered for auction out of Massachusetts.
The Cayman R weighs 120 lbs less than a standard 987.2 Cayman S, using lightweight aluminum doors and 19” forged wheels from the Boxster Spyder. It comes with contrasting Porsche script side stripes, mirror caps, and side air intake grilles, as well as darkened headlamp housings, front splitters, and a fixed rear spoiler. This example is finished in Guards Red with black contrasts and painted wheels. The original rear spoiler has been replaced with a larger TechArt wing, and the front end has been modified with a TechArt GT3-style bumper vent. Other equipment includes optional Bi-Xenon Headlights with Dynamic Cornering, headlamp washers, fog lights, LED taillights, dual center-mounted exhaust outlets, red brake calipers, and custom “987R” decals on the rear quarters. The seller notes that new General G Max RS tires were installed in April 2025. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The lightweight interior features red cloth door pull straps, a hoodless instrument cluster, body-colored trim pieces, a painted center console, a three-spoke SportDesign steering wheel, and carbon fiber Sport Bucket Seats. This example has been fitted with a painted roll cage, Schroth safety harnesses, an integrated radar detector, and an Alpine touchscreen head unit with Bluetooth and a rearview camera. Factory equipment includes optional automatic climate control, a Sport Exhaust button, a Sport Chrono dashboard stopwatch, Sound Package Plus, a remote central locking system, an onboard computer, and “Cayman R” designations on the door sills.
The Cayman R is equipped with a mid-mounted 3.4-liter flat-six engine rated at 330 HP, an increase of 10 HP over a contemporary Cayman S. This example features a 6-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential that distributes power to the rear wheels. It was factory-equipped with the optional Sport Chrono Package, Sport Exhaust System, and a 16.9-gallon fuel tank. The car was also fitted with upgraded slotted brake rotors and Pagid RSL29 Yellow pads under previous ownership. The seller states the spark plugs were replaced along with an oil change and brake fluid flush in May 2025.

The black 987R decals can be easily removed. We are happy to do that for the buyer before delivery.
For the wing, you may either get an OEM wing or one of the many aftermarket replicas. Seems like there are options because many S owners upgrade to the R wing.
@bphillyer Yes, that is an aftermarket front vent in case you'd like to run a center radiator. We do not have the OEM front or rear parts. We do have the OEM headunit.
@bphillyer Good morning. The spoiler is mounted by using factory drill holes and adhesive, so it should be straightforward but please note we do not have any experience doing this since this is the first time we have seen this spoiler. Thanks

– DME has already been provided before the auction went live. Not sure why it doesn’t show but @bringatrailer team can help. Of course that didn’t stop the usual peanut gallery from talking the seller down literally minutes into the auction. Y’all make it really hard for a seller to stay positive on here lol
– Agreed on adding a center radiator to make the front vent actually functional. I think 20 minute HPDE sessions should still be okay unless you’re in very high ambient temps, but it won’t hurt to have additional cooling. I don’t necessary agree on the brake pads – Plenty of track guys, myself included, leave the track pads on. The RSL29s aren’t particularly harsh on rotors, either.
– 987R graphics could be removed by a skilled detailer although I’m unsure how long they have been on. Would also recommend a paint correction and PPF/ceramic while you’re at it. Happy to get an estimate to get this performed before delivery if anybody is interested.
– Background on this car – Purchased from a private party, and was told he did only 2-4 HPDEs a year while he owned it. He added the aftermarket headunit and the original one is included. Original wing and front bumper are not included.
– The car had sat for a while before we acquired it. The brake pedal felt very soft, so we did a full flush and also went ahead and did an oil and spark plug service. It should be ready to roll now, but I’d recommend a track inspection and a high temp fluid if you’re going to track it immediately.
– The car drives exactly as an R should. I didn’t get it up to track speeds to test out the aero, but on decent highway speeds it didn’t feel any different than a stock R. It runs, drives, and sounds exactly as you’d expect from a Cayman R of this mileage.
– I know that this may not be everybody’s cup of tea. The reserve is that of a driver’s car, and not the garage queens that we usually get to see on here. If you’re looking for a capable track car that is unique and special, then this is it. The 987 chassis is arguably the best balance on power/weight/handling and it really shines on track. All the R upgrades make it even more capable and special.

Love this car, the wing makes it very unique. The color is great, but personally, I am not a big fan of the 987R. One additional thing, is it just me or are the Cayman R letters under the wing in the back uneven?

Could you please enlighten me about the aftermarket wing. It appears to be attached to some sort of aftermarket spoiler. How is this attached to the car? What about the original attachment points for the OEM wing, where are they? Assuming original wing is not available.

Probably should have listened to the poster from the BAT auction last week and removed the wing and decals. People aren't necessarily worried about the track mods but most folks don't want a non OEM wing and decals. Just my $.02
