This 2012 Porsche 987.2 Cayman R is one of just 563 examples produced for the U.S. market. Pairing a 6-speed manual transmission with its naturally aspirated 3.4-liter flat-six, this example was converted for track use by the specialists at Speed Gallery in Los Angeles, California. The build includes a GT3-style front bumper, front fender louvers and cutouts, a prominent rear wing, 18” OZ Alleggerita wheels, and a stripped interior featuring a full roll cage, racing seats, an AIM digital dash, JRZ coilovers, a short shifter, and more. Treated with an engine rebuild completed in December 2022 and a refinish in Chalk, this race-ready Cayman R is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New Jersey.
This example is refinished in Chalk and features custom fiberglass carbon-look door panels. Exterior modifications include a GT3-style front bumper, fiberglass fenders with carbon fiber louvers and cutouts, a full roof, aerodynamic mirrors, an enlarged ducktail-style rear spoiler, and a prominent rear wing. It rides on silver 18” OZ Alleggerita wheels, with an additional set of black-finished matching wheels included in the sale. Clear paint protection film is applied to the front. Detailed images are provided in the gallery, along with a CARFAX report noting damage in 2015 and 2016 and the issuance of a rebuilt/salvage title.
Inside, the cockpit is fully stripped for weight reduction and features a full roll cage, racing seats with Schroth harnesses, a quick-release MOMO flat-bottom steering wheel, lightweight hollow door panels, an AIM digital dash for telemetry, and a hard-wired Garmin Catalyst driver performance optimizer. The seller notes the fuel gauge is currently inoperable, the PSM light remains illuminated, with a toggle switch installed for the yaw sensor to facilitate oil level checks. The TPMS light also remains illuminated.
The mid-mounted 3.4-liter flat-six engine is factory-rated at 330 HP and 273 lb-ft of torque. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The seller reports that Mike Bavaro of Bodymotion in New Jersey performed an engine rebuild in December 2022 at a cost of approximately $30k. Modifications include a short shifter and JRZ sport-tuned coilover shocks.
This Cayman R track car is offered with a bill of sale and an extra set of wheels.
The seller would like you to know: “I'm so grateful you've taken the time to review my Cayman R! I never wanted to sell this machine; but, things change and I want it to be driven. While I haven't quite lived my dream; I have been blessed to get close. The Cayman is an amazing car. A professional driver once said after taking it out, "It just wants to go!" It's on rails. It weighs 2538 pounds. The car has been impeccably maintained by Bodymotion of Ocean Township, NJ. Mike Bavaro, the owner, rebuilt the engine, himself. They're big in the Cayman racing world. I broke in the engine at Lightning during two events, totaling about 500 miles, 226 miles at a maximum of 3,000 rpm and 262 miles at a maximum of 4,000 rpm. Mike said that was sufficient. I will miss this amazing car, forever. Such a passion. Whoever purchases this car will be laughing all the way to the checkered flag!”

Block @Jones-the-cat, from bidding on this car.
Hi again, AField, working alone in my garage, I couldn't manage the entire A-Tail roof; so, I cut it in half. I just noticed there are pictures of the rear portion off. I fabricated two aluminum bands that accept the front edge of the rear portion (sort of B-Tail, if you will). Two bolts secure the back of the rear portion of the more easily-removed roof.
Hi, AField, the photographer did take pictures of the rear off and a pic or two of the piece standing aside. I'll see if I can find it and send it along.
Thank you,

@arobinson0842 can you provide more details on this point from the build sheet?
"Fiberglass/carbon-look take-off roof (A pillar to tail)"
Do you have any photos you can share of this car with this piece removed? Thank you.
Hi, Jones..,
No worries. I appreciate your gesture. I just wonder how many potential bidders stopped watching the auction after reading your comments.
I always say "Everything touches everything."
@GoYanks99 I think then I have totally got it wrong and wish to apologise to the seller for causing any confusion. It is indeed an R then. Good luck with the sell and best regards
Rennlist Vin Decoder shows it as being an S

Thanks, goyanks!
@Jones-the-cat The CARFAX and VIN Analytics both pull as a Cayman R
I have to check my file, folks. If I'm wrong, I'll amend the post immediately and extend my sincerest apology. And, yes, cfield, it's transcendent! Makes me feel like on the old school swings with the really long chains when your body used to reach above the horizontal bar!
Oh, boy. I apologize. I guess I was lied to. Please understand I never meant to submit incorrect information.

It decodes as an R
It is not an R. The VIN = a Cayman S.
Seems disingenuous and not transparent to be claiming it is an R. Very poor show and manners.
This car looks like a blast!
Cayman R or S (photo #72)?
