Inspired by the McLaren F1 of the 1990s, this 2010 Porsche 997.2 Carrera S Cabriolet has been modified to feature a central driving position with extensive labor by the specialists at Trinity Motorsports in Ohio. Finished in Carrara White over black full leather with custom carbon fiber elements, it was factory-specified with a 7-speed PDK transmission, Dynamic Cornering Lights, the Sport Chrono Package Plus, the Bose High-End Sound Package, front seat heating and ventilation, a heated steering wheel, and more. Porsche Club of America, WIRED Magazine, Autoblog, and 6SpeedOnline have featured the car. Offering a uniquely thrilling driving experience, this 997.2 is now being offered for auction out of Pennsylvania with approximately 19k miles showing on the odometer.
This example is finished in Carrara White with a black convertible soft top. Compared to the standard Carrera, the S version features red brake calipers and quad exhaust outlets. Equipment also includes fog lights, a speed-activated rear spoiler, optional Dynamic Cornering Lights, and added 19” Sport Design wheels. Clear side markers were added, and detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The black full leather interior has been reconfigured with a unique three-passenger layout. The driver’s seat and center console have been shifted toward the right, framed by extensive carbon fiber trim along each side. Additional modifications include seat bracing and a sliding mechanism that repositions the driver’s seat from the center to the driver’s door. Retained factory options consist of black instrument dials, a Sport Chrono stopwatch dial, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, Bluetooth phone interface, the Bose High-End Sound Package, and XM Radio. The seller notes that a passenger seat malfunction warning is illuminated due to the seat’s omission.
Updated with direct fuel injection for the 2009 model year, this Carrera S is powered by a 3.8-liter flat-six engine factory-rated at 385 HP and 310 lb-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven through an optional 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission. As part of the build, the connection between the steering column, rack, and pedals was custom-engineered, while the heater box was repositioned away from the air conditioning unit. The chassis has also been reinforced with chromoly tubing, contributing to improved rigidity and weight distribution.
This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, a toolkit, and sales literature.
The seller would like you to know: “This is a one-of-a-kind Porsche, crafted by Trinity Motorsports as a tribute to the legendary McLaren F1. It delivers the thrill of a center-seat driving position, while keeping the 911’s rear seats for a unique three-passenger layout. Built with over 4,000 hours of expert craftsmanship and more than $85,000 invested, it combines Porsche reliability with supercar exclusivity. Owning the Centro 911 means driving something no one else in the world has - a rare blend of innovation, performance, and prestige at just a fraction of the McLaren’s price.”

Why would anyone ask what it would cost to change it back? Talk about crazy ideas, if anyone thinks buying this and changing it back at any cost is a good idea I don’t think they are the ones to scoff the idea of doing it in the first place. It sure looks fun that is for sure.
WOW $95k

@Scrooge1 Indeed, the value of the individual components alone would easily exceed the current bid, but it’s nice to see the car appreciated as a complete and very usable package. The ease of access to rear storage and the comfort factor make it quite versatile, especially compared with something like a 996.2 Turbo that’s more focused on pure performance. This one really does bridge the gap, offering both enjoyment and practicality.
Bid in the amount of $16,250
Wow, if just parted out this would go for much much more than the present bid (15k). A single retired guy like me would luv it for traveling, easy access to the rear (storage). I have a 996.2tt for fun, but this might fill in the gaps???

Thanks @NWIC I am kinda tall and long in the tooth. For my last 911 (no power seat) I had the runners adjusted so the seat could go back further. This is tempting as a daily for my solo commute.
@Mithril911 Thank you for your question. The center-steering conversion does not negatively impact driver legroom: in fact, the seating position feels very natural once you’re in. Ingress and egress are also straightforward; the current owner enjoyed the car for years and never reported difficulties getting in or out. It’s a unique layout, but designed to be fully usable on a daily basis.
Hello @NWIC does this configuration impact legroom for the driver? Did the current owner discuss any ingress and egress issues?
With just a few hours left, I’d like to take a moment to speak directly to those who truly appreciate this 997.2 Carrera S Cabriolet for what it is. The center-steering conversion has been the subject of jokes, but for the right enthusiast it’s a unique opportunity to own something very special. My client purchased this car years ago, enjoyed it thoroughly, and never regretted the conversion—it became part of the car’s story and charm.
If you are looking for a standard left-hand-drive car, this one isn’t for you. But if you are looking for a rare, conversation-starting 911 with a driving experience unlike anything else, then this is the chance. Let’s keep the comments supportive and help my client find the next caretaker who will enjoy this car just as much.
What? A 997 with a proper cup holder? I need this.
What I like about it is I'm not obligated to take the wife when I want to go "take a drive". :)
@skulig Not easily. You'd need a whole new dash
WTF, why would you move the seat to the center, but then still keep the back seat? Single guy with kids...
Also, why do this to a convertible?
Is it even possible to convert this back?
Bid in the amount of $11,000
If this 911 had the traditional seating it would go for serious money $$$.
Actually, this car now has 3 usable seats...that's +1 from factory.
@davethewave911 It’s a fantastic car. If you like it, place your bid , you never know what might happen!
I think it's very cool. I have seen this car for sale numerous times....as per the car fax. I'd love to own it, depending on the price. :)

I understand the concept but this isn’t it, what would it take to convert it back?
It's an homage to the legendary McLaren F1. Centre steering also provides better visibility which enhances driving pleasures. You feel like you're in a video game. If you notice in arcade games, the steering is always positioned in the centre so it adds more driving pleasure in addition to enhanced visibility. It elicits a feeling of solidarity, one where the driver feels one and the same with the car. It's actually incredible to drive this car. I know I'll never drive anything like it again.
@drcollie It wasn’t built to be an autocross coupe — the goal was to create something unique. A 911 with a center-driving position while still keeping the back seats and usability. Not ruined, just truly one-of-a-kind.
@drcollie Indeed.
I could almost - ALMOST - see this as a killer Autocross car. But then it would be a Coupe, and there would be no backseats, and a minimalist dash. Forever ruined as it is.

Bid in the amount of $1,750
Finally a 911 where the rear seats have leg room or the perfect car for the guy with a wife and her boyfriend or the divorced dad with 2 kids every other weekend car.
@mrmadell Yes can be used
Another prime example of... seemed like a good idea at the time. ...too much time on their hands. ...WTF!!??. ...and finally - why? what the hell were they thinking?
Two questions:
Can anyone actually use the passenger seat?
Has anyone actually used the passenger seat?
The perfect loaner for a loner.
Sorry this was a repeat.
Just when you think you've seen everything.
