Developed and manufactured by Swift Engineering, the esteemed Swift 016.a is an open-wheel formula race car designed for the Formula Atlantic spec series, where it has served as the exclusive chassis since 2006. It is powered by a Cosworth-tuned 2.3-liter Mazda four-cylinder engine paired with a Hewland 5-speed sequential manual transaxle. The car features a carbon fiber monocoque chassis, pushrod suspension with 4-way adjustable coilovers, PFC brake calipers, 15” BBS wheels, an onboard fire suppression system, and much more. Acquired by the seller in 2020, this example has since been campaigned in Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) competition with support from DD Autosports of Angleton, Texas. This racecar is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Texas.
The Swift 016.a features a carbon fiber monocoque chassis with removable fiberglass bodywork. This example is finished in a white, blue, and black livery and equipped with an acrylic windscreen, dual side mirrors, a roll hoop, quick-jack lift points, a front wing, and a two-tier rear wing. It rides on a staggered-width 15” BBS wheels wrapped in Hoosier rain tires, and three additional sets of wheels are said to accompany the sale. The seller notes the floor and left-front suspension components were repaired in 2024, and imperfections are noted in the vinyl wrap along with cosmetic blemishes throughout. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cockpit is equipped with a single molded seat, a Schroth racing harness, and a fire suppression system mounted alongside the driver. A Tilton adjustable pedal box is installed, and a camera is mounted atop the roll hoop. The AiM steering wheel is mounted to a quick-release hub and features an integrated digital display, push-button controls, and paddle shifters, with the side grips wrapped in black friction tape. Data acquisition is conducted by an AiM system with a SmartyCam V1.
Power comes from a naturally aspirated 2.3-liter Mazda MZR inline-four engine built and tuned by Cosworth, featuring carbon fiber valve cover and intake plenum components. Output is rated at 300 HP, and the rear wheels are driven through a Hewland 5-speed sequential manual transaxle. The crown wheel and pinion bearings were replaced in October 2024, and the ECU was cleaned in preparation for the sale. The car is equipped with a pushrod suspension system featuring Multimatic DSSV four-way-adjustable coilovers and PFC brake calipers. The seller states that the car has been professionally maintained by a race engineer throughout their ownership, with regular servicing and technical oversight.
This Swift is offered with a bill of sale, three sets of additional wheels, and a collection of spare parts.
The seller would like you to know: “If you're serious about racing in the SCCA or other formula series, the Swift 016 is the benchmark in its class. Originally limited to just 60 units, only around 40 are currently known to remain in existence, making it one of the most sought-after formula cars by discerning drivers. Whether you're aiming for the podium or craving a high-performance machine for track days, the Swift 016 delivers an unforgettable experience. With its precision handling, advanced engineering, and competitive pedigree, this car is built for those who demand the very best from their driving. Race it or thrill with it—either way, the Swift 016 is the real deal.”

@jmee9595 Thanks!
@Specracer8 I have the log book since I have owned the car, unfortunately I am out of town and cannot snap a pic of the log book. The car has not been through tech inspection for 2025. The wheels are all in good shape and it comes with 3 sets. I am having my engineer pull the most recent data on the engine hours, based on our last feedback from Elan there is a little more than 60% life remaining before the next suggested rebuild. Dampers rebuilt in 2023.
Do you have the complete SCCA log books? Can you provide pictures?
Are the other wheels BBS and in good shape?
How many hours on the engine since rebuilt?
When were the dampers last rebuilt?
Thanks!
@jmee9595 thank you for the info. That is awesome. 300hp out of an NA 2.0L is seriously impressive. I've done some warm up laps in a Renault 2.0 formula car and it definitely had nowhere near 300 horsepower lol.
I'm so jealous right now.
Interesting that the bid jumped from $5000 to $50,000. Seems to defy logic.
@kaj750 Yes, 300hp, if you race this car in the SCCA, there is a restrictor that must be put in that reduces the power to 280. The car comes with 2 31mm restrictors in a very large spare package
Bid in the amount of $50,000
300hp?!
Bid in the amount of $5,000
@koiewfj No it is a Swift 016, it is very different from an F4 and F3 car. Considerable faster on lap time, but the F3 car is faster in a straight line. The Swift has a stronger aero package and is a couple hundred pounds lighter. I hope this answers your question,
Is It a formula 4 car?
@CMH5466 will do
