This incredibly rare 2006 RUF Rt12 S is available for viewing at the 2025 Air|Water Event on April 26th. The car was delivered to its first owner in Miami, Florida, after being reviewed and tested by EVO magazine at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. It was originally produced as a standard Rt12 and is one of the very few examples specified with a rear-wheel-drive configuration. It was also optioned with hydraulically adjustable suspension, a taller sixth gear, an integrated roll cage, RUF sport seats, and PCM with a Bose sound system. In 2009, the Rt12 was sent back to RUF in Pfaffenhausen, Germany, for a conversion to Rt12 S specifications and a repaint in matte black at a cost of €49k. Upon completion in 2011 with its twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-six engine now rated at 685 HP, the car was brought back to the U.S., where it remained under the care of its original owner until 2015. Under subsequent ownership in 2018, the car underwent a major mechanical reconditioning by a RUF-trained technician, including a top-end engine rebuild, rebuilt brake calipers, and a new clutch. This example is now available for auction by its seller out of Oregon with approximately 31k miles showing on the odometer, accompanied by original build documentation and invoices.

The Rt12 wears specially developed RUF bodywork, including a front spoiler with large radiator grilles, rear quarter panels with integrated upper air intakes, a carbon fiber decklid, and an exposed carbon fiber rear wing. This example was repainted in matte black from its original GT Silver Metallic color during the Rt12 S conversion, which included revised quarter panels with larger air ducts and CTR3-derived side mirrors. Other details include RUF badging, bi-xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights, quad exhaust tips, RUF-branded brake calipers, and multi-piece 19” OZ Superleggera wheels that were refurbished in 2019. The seller adds that the full exterior is preserved by clear paint protection film.

The cabin is appointed with Cocoa Brown leather upholstery, including carbon fiber-backed RUF sport seats with Pepita cloth inserts. Accessories include a leather-wrapped three-spoke RUF steering wheel, RUF-branded door sills and gauges, RUF pedals, a RUF shift knob, automatic climate control, a Bose sound system, Porsche Communication Management (PCM), and an integrated Valentine One radar and laser detector.

The Rt12 features a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-six based on the Porsche 996 Turbo’s venerable M96 Mezger engine. RUF modifies the engine with 102mm Mahle pistons, custom camshafts, KKK turbochargers, gas-flowed cylinder heads, a cast alloy intake manifold, and larger throttle bodies. This car’s engine was upgraded to “S” specifications by RUF in 2009, which raised the output to 685 HP and 664 lb-ft of torque. It drives the rear wheels through a RUF 6-speed manual transaxle with an optional taller sixth gear and a limited-slip differential. Performance features include hydraulically adjustable suspension, a front axle lift system, and two-piece cross-drilled brake discs paired with RUF 8-piston alloy monobloc calipers in the front and 4-piston calipers at the rear. A RUF-trained technician performed mechanical reconditioning between 2018 and 2019, using only OEM RUF parts. The work included a top-end engine rebuild with all new seals and gaskets, a new water pump, rear main seal, clutch, brake lines, and rebuilt brake calipers.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, original sales documents, an Rt12 S conversion invoice, service records, and a clean title. The vehicle will be showcased at the 2025 Air|Water Event on April 26th, 2025.

@eballer The only things that we had to do was adjust a wastegate and an oil change. The car has been reliable for us and extremely fun to drive!

  • gpmotors (seller) 6 days, 4 hoursago

@pcardriver Yes the car has been completely gone through since the video that Ed had put out on this car. Yes date codes are the same.

  • eballer 6 days, 6 hoursago

How is ownership of it? have you needed to do anything besides basic maintenance work since 2019? and what does basic maintenance work for a car of this level look like?

  • pcardriver 6 days, 15 hoursago

Nice video! I wondered who Ed Bolian was so I looked up his YouTube video of the car. It looks like it has been seriously refreshed since his video of 7 yrs ago. Is this correct? Also are the date codes for the tires all the same at 2118? Thank you

  • gpmotors (seller) 1 weekago

@thatacrylicguy The cold start is a bit rough due to the larger camshafts in the engine. Once off the cold start, it idles down to 900 RPMs and has no stuttering.
We've put roughly 1,000 miles on the car in our ownership

  • thatacrylicguy 1 weekago

Cold start seems a bit rough when idling down. What's the service history look like from the past 3 years and how many miles have been driven under current ownership?

  • 04vkrivor 1 weekago

    @Mike32 Yes it is!

  • Mike32 1 week, 1 dayago

@the8thbif To clarify, I'm talking about a 997 GT2. This RT12 S is going to obviously sell much higher

  • the8thbif (registered bidder) 1 week, 1 dayago

@Bottfeed had seen one for sale in Switzerland that sold for around 115k. Tried to snag it but took too long to figure out import and it sold instantly. Brutal missed opportunity

@dukeyr RUF takes nearly perfect designs and make them even more perfect. In an endless pursuit to improve upon this, later models often benefit from new improvements that are made in future iterations. My RUF BTR had a 5 speed gearbox (that Porsche didn't think could be made but later integrated into the 930). By the time Porsche made the 5 speed, RUF added a 6th gear.

RUF engine builds are rock solid and engineered for longevity. They beg to be wrung out and run at high RPMs.

RUF conversions are great cars, but a true W09 build from Pfaffenhausen was born a RUF. I have not sent mine back to the mothership for repairs, but I would, and I have friends who have. The ability to bring these cars back to new (or better) exists within those walls, and what better way to travel in Europe than in your refreshed RUF?

With routine maintenance and use, these cars should last a lifetime. Any high performance engine will need attention from a knowledgeable mechanic and lots of premium fuel.

  • dukeyr (registered bidder) 1 week, 2 daysago

i've been wanting a ruf car since reading about the yellowbird
now that i can likely afford to buy one, i realize they almost always get "sent back to ruf" for major services/rebuilding. is there a reason for this? do the motors have short lives like race motors that need to be torn down?
i know this car went back for conversion to s and a repaint so i get that part. what i don't get is "Under subsequent ownership in 2018, the car underwent a major mechanical reconditioning by a RUF-trained technician, including a top-end engine rebuild"
i really don't wanna own a car that requires attention like that. i don't want to own a car that i'm afraid to drive for any reason. been there done that.

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 1 week, 2 daysago
