The first-generation Porsche Cayman S debuted for the 2006 model year featuring a 3.4-liter flat-six engine with VarioCam Plus cylinder heads from the 997 Carrera S. This launch-year Porsche 987 Cayman S is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a Black interior and is factory-equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, optional heated leather Sport Seats, Porsche-crested headrests, automatic climate control, the Bose Surround Sound System, and Bi-Xenon Headlamp Package. The car has remained under the care of a single family since it was purchased new from Park Place Porsche of Dallas, Texas. It has been modified with a GT3-style front bumper vent, a GT3 steering wheel and shifter, Alcantara seat inserts and headliner, a painted center console, Rennline pedals and track mats, an OEM short shift kit, a Porsche DME upgrade, stainless-steel brake lines, a deep-sump oil pan, a center radiator, a Fabspeed Maxflo exhaust, Fabspeed headers, an IPD intake plenum, a GT3 throttle body, and black 19” OZ Alleggerita HLT wheels. Showing just over 54k miles on the odometer, this Cayman S is now being offered for auction out of Ohio.
This 987 is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic and has been modified with a GT3-style front bumper vent, black side air intake grilles, a front tow hook, Fabspeed polished exhaust tips, and black-finished 19” Carrera wheels. Other equipment includes optional bi-xenon headlights, headlamp washers, fog lights, auto-dimming mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, a speed-activated rear spoiler, and red Porsche-branded brake calipers. The seller notes the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires are due for replacement, and the car is accompanied by an additional set of 18” OZ Alleggerita HLT wheels with Yokohama Advan A052 tires that were used for one track day. Some paint chips are noted above the paint protection film on the hood, along with a scrape on the front right fender, rear bumper, and a wheel. A paint touch-up was also performed on a rear bumperette. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The black interior features optional heated leather Sport Seats with custom Alcantara inserts, a matching Alcantara headliner, and a GT Silver Metallic-painted center console. Accessories include an Alcantara-wrapped GT3 sport steering wheel, an Alcantara GT3 shifter and parking brake handle, an OEM short shift kit, Rennline pedals and track mats, optional Porsche-crested headrests, automatic climate control, cruise control, Bose Surround Sound System, and a Porsche CDR24 stereo. Some wear is noted on the seat bolster, door sill guards, and shift knob as well as a scrape on the passenger-side A-pillar.
Featuring integrated dry sump lubrication, VarioCam Plus variable valve timing, and a 2-stage resonance induction system, the mid-mounted 3.4-liter flat-six engine was factory-rated at 295 HP and 252 lb-ft of torque. The engine has been modified with a Porsche DME upgrade, an IPD intake plenum, a GT3 throttle body, Fabspeed headers with sport cats, a Fabspeed Maxflo exhaust system, a deep sump oil pan, a billet underdrive pulley, an uprated air/oil separator, and a center radiator. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. Performance features include Porsche Stability Management (PSM), Active Brake Differential (ABD), and fixed 4-piston brakes with cross-drilled discs and upgraded stainless-steel brake lines. The vehicle is said to have a complete service history, and the seller notes damage to the front driver’s side air duct and a minor oil leak from the rear engine seal.
This sale will include the original window sticker, owner’s manuals, a car cover, the factory steering wheel, shifter, and parking brake handle, the original floor mats, coco floor mats, a set of 18” OZ wheels, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for visiting my auction. This Cayman has been in my family since new. Garage kept and covered from 2007-2017 in Texas and in Ohio since 2017. No winter driving, and it has only seen a handful of rainy days. Drives and sounds great!”

Logging in and caught this with minutes left! Seems like a great buy. Wish I had more time to review all of the info. Good luck seller.
@classic-michael I have not done either. I'm sure you know this, but for the sake of the auction the 2006 Cayman S is equipped with a later-generation M97 engine, which features a revised IMS bearing design that is not serviceable and has a significantly lower failure rate (<1%) compared to the earlier M96 engines found in pre-2005 Porsche models. Porsche made this update to improve engine reliability, and as a result, IMS-related failures in these later engines are extremely rare. While no mechanical component is ever entirely risk-free, the consensus among independent Porsche specialists and the broader community is that the M97 IMS bearing does not warrant the same level of concern or preventative action as earlier versions.
Bore scoring is a concern and modifications were made early in the life of the car to prevent (deep sump oil pan, air/oil separator) this type of engine damage.
Was IMS updated and did you get the PPI with bore scoring inspection?
A cold start video has been added to the listing page.

@WH911 Thanks for pointing that out, my uncle (the first owner of the car) brought the timer up as well. That video was taken right after a battery hook up so that might be the issue on the timer. Regarding the puff of smoke at start up, I've spoken with my mechanic (Autobahn Extremist) about it previously and he saw no concern worth further inspection. I just took a new video and posted it on the auction, it should show shortly. Thanks for visiting the auction!

There is a 30 minute oil level timer shown in the cold start video. That means it had been started and ran for a bit before the “cold start” video was taken… just saying.
Occasional puff of smoke upon cold startup is common, but looks pretty bad for a video to be posted here.
Question: How often and if so how bad is the startup smoke?
@dukeyr Thank you!
The car has approximately 20 track days on it with the last one in 2021. A mix of PCA and SCCA events.
The suspension is stock. Thanks for checking it out!
also, the car seems to ride a little high, ie a lot of space between tire and fender
is the ride height stock?
nice car!
oz's used for 1 day on the track. how much track time does the car have?

@luis.seneriz the DME upgrade was done by Park Place Porsche in Dallas. The car was not spec’d from the factory with the Sport Chrono Package. The upgrade changes the mapping on the DME to the Sport Chrono “sport setting” primarily for throttle response and rev cut off. Important to note that the car does not have PASM so the suspension is not impacted and launch control is not available.
Interested to know more details about the Porsche DME upgrade, who did it, is it just a tune? I really like the rest of the modifications.
@Tspringer Thank you! It's been a great car to own and look at. Yes, I can get it to a PPI with bore scoring inspection. Autobahn Extremist in Brooklyn Heights, OH has serviced the Cayman since 2018. They are usually pretty good at getting cars in quickly for PPI. Suspension is stock. Most of the mods were done to protect/bolster the engine and the exhaust was done for our audible pleasure. I have all maintenance receipts with the exception of an oil change in 2018. The most recent over-rev report is from 2015 so not sure how relevant that is. Thank you for visiting the auction!
Great looking car! Would you be willing to have a bore scoring inspection done as part of a PPI at a local specialist shop (assuming I can find one). How many track days has this car seen? Did this car also have suspension mods that have been removed? It seems a bit strange for all the engine mods and such but apparently fully stock suspension? Do you have all maintenance receipts back to new? Do you have any DME over-rev reports? Thanks!
@BR356 Thanks for visiting the auction. I do not have a recent bore score or oil test. The bolster is worn but no repair on it. It is still supportive, just scuffed from ingress and egress. I can take additional photos if that would help.
driver side bolster repair? Any bore score test or oil tests?
