This 2004 Porsche 996 GT3 was modified by a previous owner to match the performance of the 997.2 GT3 RS 4.0, using as many OEM and Porsche Motorsports parts as possible. It features a fully rebuilt Mezger flat-six engine upgraded to a 4.0-liter displacement and modified with 997 Cup heads, a 997 throttle body, RSR bearings, RS engine mounts, 997 GT3 headers, a 997 GT3 Cup exhaust, and a custom tune by 911 Design. The car showcases a painted OEM Clubsport roll cage, Recaro GT3 bucket seats, yellow seatbelts, a custom reupholstered center console and gear knob, an OEM GT3 Cup carbon fiber body kit, adjustable Moton Clubsport coilovers, full monoball suspension, factory carbon ceramic brake calipers with steel GT3 Cup rotors, and custom 18” BBS wheels. Under the seller’s ownership, this GT3 was refinished in the Paint to Sample color of Brewster Green and fitted with a new 6-speed manual transmission from Porsche AG, a rebuilt Guard limited-slip differential, and a 997 GT3 RS shifter with cables. With no expense spared on high-end modifications and factory upgrades, this 4.0-powered 996 GT3 is now being offered for auction out of California with approximately 32.5k miles on the rebuilt engine and less than 5k miles on the new transmission.
This GT3 was completely refinished in Porsche’s Paint to Sample color of Brewster Green from its original Basalt Black Metallic color under the seller's ownership. The body has been modified with an OEM 996 GT3 Cup carbon fiber front and rear bumper, ram air scoop, and a Cargraphic 996 Cup decklid with a fixed rear wing. A new OEM GT3 Cup front splitter is included in the sale. The car rides on period-correct 18” BBS E39 staggered wheels that are custom-built to the widest dimensions applicable on a 996 GT3. The Toyo R888R tires were mounted within the last 1k miles and measure 245 in front and 315 at the rear. The seller notes the car recently underwent a 3-stage paint correction and the exterior remains in excellent overall condition, apart from three rock chips. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a CARFAX report showing moderate damage to the rear in 2011.
The Black full leather interior features OEM Recaro GT3 bucket seats paired with BBi adjustable mounts and yellow seatbelts. An OEM GT3 Cup roll cage has been installed and custom-painted in the Carrera GT color of Fayence Yellow, along with the center console. The shift boot, Porsche-crested center armrest, and center console sides have also been custom reupholstered in black Nappa leather with deviated yellow stitching. Other accessories include a black leather three-spoke steering wheel, a front center console delete, optional aluminum instrument dials, automatic climate control, cruise control, a central locking system, an onboard computer, and an Alpine Bluetooth head unit. The removable front section of the roll cage will also accompany the sale.
The car’s original 3.6-liter Mezger flat-six engine was completely rebuilt by IPB Autosport at 42k miles (approximately 33k miles ago) and upgraded to a 4.0-liter displacement using Mahle pistons and Capricorn cylinder liners. It was also fitted with 997 GT3 Cup heads, RSR bearings, a bored-out plenum and intake manifolds, a 997 throttle body, welded coolant manifolds, RS engine mounts, 997 GT3 headers, and a 997 GT3 Cup muffler and J-pipe. The engine received a custom tune and produces up to 387 HP and 322 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels. A new OEM 6-speed manual transmission was sourced from Porsche AG and installed less than 6k miles ago, featuring updated 997 gearing and synchros. It was fitted with a new OEM 997 GT3 RS shifter, shift cables, lightweight flywheel, clutch kit, along with a rebuilt limited-slip differential featuring Guard clutches. The car’s chassis features a full monoball suspension installed within the last 14k miles with new Moton Clubsport adjustable dampers, Eibach springs, a GMG bump steer kit, GMG dogbones, Tarett Engineering drop and toe bar links, and solid Cup thrust arm pucks. The original fixed 6-piston front and 4-piston rear ceramic brake (PCCB) calipers are paired with new Hawk brake pads, GT3 Cup brake ducts, 996 GT3 Cup front rotors, and 997 GT3 Cup rear rotors. The seller states that the latest service included flushing the brake fluid, transmission fluid, and an oil change. A new starter was installed in early 2025.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, a window sticker, a toolkit, a car cover, a battery trickle charger, a new GT3 Cup front lip, the removable front section of the roll cage, and a clean title (lien).
The seller would like you to know: “This is a very special GT3 that I finished building while studying the builds and cohesiveness of Singer, Emory Motorsports, and other bespoke high-end manufacturers/builders. I overthought everything. For example, when I had the shifter reupholstered in soft grain Italian leather, I couldn't just let it be. I added a few ounces of putty weight to give the shifts crisper in the weight movement, going from gear to gear before upholstery. I built it with no intention of ever selling it. I have driven many cars in my life, all over the world, and nothing offers this level of driving experience. The collection of parts that make up this build is well thought-out and cohesive. This GT3 wraps itself around you and becomes an extension of where your eyes point next. The torque bump allows it to dance when you want it to, and it can stick to corners when you need it to. It has an incredibly unfair advantage on the streets in any corner and has broken many hearts in the canyons. One lucky person will have the opportunity to call it theirs. I wish you the best & happy bidding.
This is from the builder of the car: the 105.4mm Mahle piston is the result of efforts by factory Porsche and Brumos Racing for the Grand Am Daytona Prototype series. It feels like a 996TT at low RPM with the displacement bump. The low-end torque gain is substantial. I never feel the need to rev past 5- 6k. Passing cars in 5th gear is effortless. I think the 4.0's flexibility really bridges the gap between GT3 and TT for street use. The top end has some juice too. I'm glad I decided to leave the stock camshafts in place. I think it's key to maintaining such a flexible powerband.”

@SRMPDX no it is 100% a 4.0L, but when you have a plate that says 4 LITER and the smog tech asks if that’s the displacement, you say no, it’s a stock 3.6L, otherwise it won’t pass because it’s been modified. Joys of CA.
@SRMPDX it is a 4.0 & below you’ll find the supporting build thread. Thanks.

@Boostin are you implying that his car doesn't in fact have a 4.0L built engine?
What a steal even at the asking price of 138. It cost so much more to build this, especially in today's money.
This is such a beautifully detailed and thought out build, worth every cent of the asking price.
It did pass CA smog multiple times when I owned it and nothing has changed that would it cause it not to. I just had to say the 4 Liter plate (which I had in CA) does not correspond to the motor displacement because its a stock 3.6

@vvspeedy30 It has been a California car its whole life, I purchased it in Northern California where it was registered and see no reason why it would not pass smog.
I previously lived in Wi, where I still have property, and kept it registered there because I love the plate.
Thanks.
Do you know if the car would pass smog in CA? seems like if it has 997 GT3 headers it could maybe still pass visual.
@mxtr55 The 387 HP and 322 lb-ft of torque numbers are to the wheels. I have not tracked it and neither did the previous two owners, to my knowledge. It was on a track earlier in its life.
I like the roll cage personally, though it is removable if you don't wish to retain it. Thanks.
Nice to see real dyno numbers ; rather than “internet” numbers. 911 Design has an impeccable reputation . We also had a dyno pack dyno and they’re pretty conservative. Bid with confidence! I bet you can spoil a lot of 997/991 owners day!
Love the Green. Reminds me of my highly modified yet very streetable BMW 3.5 CS. Boy do I miss that beast. Not reading all of the comments, but did you track the car, thus the need for a roll-cage? Also, surprised at the HP/Torque as being low. I would expect that it would be more like 410-425 with a rebuild & 4.0 ltr
@burnrubr Hello and thank you. 387 HP and 322 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels.

GORGEOUS
The photos and videos don’t do this car justice, I saw it during Monterey Car week and the way it looked and sounded in person was insane!! The owner got on it for a short pull and made some jaws drop. Anyone who sees and drives this car in person will be pleasantly surprised.
@Boostin Thank you for filling in the gaps and all of your input!
I appreciate your kind words - Yes, it's truly a special GT3 with one of those memorable driving experiences that stays with you.
For those that have asked for driving videos, they are now live. Thanks.

Former owner here before Naveed. This is one of those cars that I regret selling but the only reason I did was to fund the purchase of a 996 GT3R. If I had the means at that time I would have kept it.
I had it tuned at 911 Design and the dyno is ‘at the wheels’ but in this case was the type of dyno where you take the wheels off and bolt the dyno to the hubs. As everyone knows, dyno results can vary significantly from dyno to dyno depending on how it is setup. These are very healthy numbers for a 4 liter and I look at torque as opposed to horsepower as that’s what makes this car an absolute blast. This engine still has the stock 996 GT3 cams if I remember correctly and if had 997 exhaust cams (I think it was exhaust and not intake) it would have put down 15+ more HP. But again torque is what makes a great street car.
This is an amazing build that the current owner and Naveed have only made better since my ownership. In my mind this is the best street 996 GT3 build that’s out there. There should be a front half of the roll cage that can be put in with a handful of bolts to make this the ultimate track day car.
As for the “accident”, the prior owner gave it a bit too much throttle in the wet on an exit ramp which ended with the rear bumper kissing the guardrail. That’s when the Kevlar cup rear bumper was installed. I was very thorough in my review of the car prior to purchasing and I’ll attest that the damage was just the bumper. There was no structural damage to the rear ‘frame rails’. And trust me, I’ve owned a number of cups and know what that type of damage looks like.
Oh and I have a set of 997 “Supercup” pipes for this car if the winning bidder would like. They’re straight pipes and the sound is absolutely glorious. It’s two exhaust clamps and two bolts to swap (well maybe 6 or 8 to get the current cup muffler off). That’s how I drove the car pretty much my entire ownership and while some folks may not be fond, it was entirely worth it.
Happy to answer any questions. I bought the car from the gentleman that had IPB build the motor. There’s a great thread on Rennlist detailing the motor build and this was one of, if not the first 4 liter aftermarket build.
Man just writing this brings back so many memories and makes me consider throwing in bid.

@TJ993 Thank you! There are a few videos that have been uploaded and should be available soon that I think you'll enjoy. Feel free to reach out.
quite Intriqued, interesting build!! Perhaps, one might say the way this car should have been built. With the 2000 3.6 gt3 @ 355 hp and 273 and a 2011 - 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine producing 493 horsepower, the numbers quoted for this built motor may indeed be after drive train loss to the rear wheels. Interested to read / hear more details plus thought on how the new tranny gearing coincides. Fascinating build!
This is a really nice build and Brewster Green is 🔥. Bonus points for the personalized plate from my home track.
@fstclyz Hello. I am unsure what the spring rates and valving are on these Moton's as this was calibrated and sorted with the previous owner(s). I can tell you that I am very particular with how a street car should ride and this setup is compliant, confident and absolutely not "crashy". I never felt the need to mess with the suspension setup as it just felt perfect from the day I bought it. The springs feel tight on compression and rebound.
Yes, I believe the dyno numbers look more like "to the wheel" though I am unsure. I will post an expanded dyno sheet that was taken at the time. Take this as you wish, it certainly feels crisp, healthy and all of a very healthy high 400hp range.
In terms of the paint and body: With the exception of the windshield and rear glass (the weather stripping was removed for the windshield and rear glass) this was a full glass-out paint, including doors removed, disassembled, glass-out, door handles disassembled, bumpers-off, headlights / tail lights off, decklid, wing, mirrors etc were all disassembled, removed, sanded, prepped and painted. The fenders were left in place so that we would not have fender-to-door alignment challenges. The paint line in the frunk is on the inside of the fender line on both sides. Please zoom into the pictures and if it is difficult to see, I am happy to show zoomed in pictures for you. The inside of the hood was also painted and in the same finish as the factory (satin).
You could not tell this was ever a basalt black car unless the frunk is open and you are looking for it near the battery tray area.
Having had the car completely disassembled to the chassis, we could not find any indication of damage anywhere. Structurally, the car is as it was from the factory. I am certain it was a rear bumper and the owner at the time filed a claim.
Thank you for your questions. I hope that I answered them. If there is any more details you would like, please feel free to reach out. Thanks!

A few questions; What spring rates and valving are on these Moton's? They can be a bit stiff on the street if not setup specifically for the street. The power figures from the 4.0 seem a bit low. Maybe its the tune, dyno, etc. Can you provide more color around that? At what level was the car painted green, glass out etc? Are there any visual indicators of the rear end accident or know details as to what was fixed? Thanks
@Baq, R.A. has been repaved along with all kinds of updates since then. I was on the track for the Ferrari meet and I have to believe that this car would love it there. GLTA
@jbauto This has been a California car its entire life. I used to live in Wisconsin when I bought the car in 21. When I shipped it to Wi at the time, I registered it there and ordered a Road America vanity plate. I have since moved back to California where it resides. I still have my property in Wi where it remains registered. I love the "4LITER" plate and thats why I kept it.
Thanks.
I see the Road America plates. What is the backstory with that?
@naveed wow that’s a great video, you were eating up the twisties.
Did you have the same seats as the current seller? Saw you mentioned you did a lot of driving, I had always thought of those seats as more of a track setup vs long drives
@naveed Thank you. It's been an incredible car to own and drive. You're right, even under my ownership...It has never skipped a beat and always put a smile on my face.
Can we see some vids and sound of the exhaust.
Here to vouch for the seller, I bought this car in August 2020 and sold it to the seller in June 2021. In that time frame, I added nearly 10k miles to the car, mostly all on long road trips throughout california, and honestly, i couldn't have picked a better car to do it with. This car got me through covid with peace of mind. Lots of empty roads, lots of long hauls to socal from norcal, and even a run through palm springs and joshua tree national park, and it performed flawlessly. The 4.0 never skipped a beat, never threw a code, never gave me any sort of issues what so ever. When i purchased it, I had sublime in silverlake do a ppi on the car, and they gave it the go ahead, and even commented saying it was one of the nicest builds they had seen. This car was owned by a renowned engine builder that worked at IPB iirc, and it was a no expense spared build. I had also contacted IPB after I purchased the car and became cool with the shop. They remembered the car, and also vouched that it was a great car with an extensively documented build. If i could justify it, id buy this car back in a heart beat. It is genuinely one of the few cars I regret selling. Current owner spent even more money bringing it to where it sits today. The right wheels, the right seats, the right color, etc! Next owner wont be disappointed. Myself and the previous owner, and the previous owner before that all took really good care of this car!

Hello & welcome to my auction. This GT3 is a special one. I hope you enjoy it as well and I’m happy to answer your questions transparently and to the best of my knowledge.
Videos coming soon!
If ever there was THE perfect build on a 996 platform, this is it! I can't event comprehend the amount of time and money put into this build and how meticuously it was put together. There is a lot of value here and I will be watching this one closely with great interest.
Videos please. This looks awesome.
