Finished in Topaz Blue Metallic over a grey leather interior, this 2002 BMW M3 Convertible was modified under the care of the prior owner beginning in 2009, including converting the 6-speed SMG transmission to manual operation. It showcases a rebuilt and blueprinted 3.2-liter S54 engine by VAC Motorsports with Carillo rods, JE pistons, an Active Autowerks exhaust, and an Active Autowerks Stage 2 Gen VI supercharger kit with methanol and fueling systems. The car also features a PFC big brake kit, Bilstein PSS10 coilovers, Vorsteiner body components, an Alcantara steering wheel, carbon fiber interior trim, Boston Acoustics speakers, AutoMeter auxiliary gauges, and 19” BBS wheels. Recently serviced with a new clutch, belts, fluids, filters, and tires, this custom supercharged E46 M3 is now being offered for auction out of Tennessee with approximately 69k miles showing on the odometer.
The exterior is finished in Topaz Blue Metallic with a power-operated black convertible top. It has been modified with Vorsteiner bodywork, including a VRS vented carbon fiber hood, GTS3 front spoiler, and a V-CSL boot lid and rear diffuser. Other modifications include a mini antenna, Depo corner lights, SPP Superwhite fog lights, Predator Orion V2 angel eye headlights, and retrofitted OEM LED taillights. The car rides on aftermarket 19” BBS CH wheels dressed in new tires. Some minor imperfections are noted on the front end, although the exterior is said to be in excellent overall condition with a ceramic coating recently applied. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin is appointed with grey leather upholstery, including 8-way power seats with adjustable lumbar support. An OEM Alcantara-wrapped sport steering wheel has been installed with EAS carbon fiber trim that extends to the dashboard, doors, center console, and instrument panel. Other modifications include an EAS custom V1 radar mount, an Ultimate pedal and dead pedal set, a Rogue Engineering parking brake handle, a grey Alcantara parking brake boot with M tri-color stitching, M3-emboidered carpet mats, a LeatherZ gauge pod, AutoMeter auxiliary gauges, a Nexus sensor module and remote control, Boston Acoustics speakers, and a Pioneer AVIC N3 head unit with navigation. The driver is also provided with power windows and mirrors, a remote central locking system, automatic climate control, cruise control, rear parking assist, and an onboard trip computer. Some chips and scratches are noted on the back of the center console.
The 3.2-liter S54 inline-six engine has been rebuilt and blueprinted by VAC Motorsports, including Carillo rods, JE pistons, ARP head studs, knife-edged heads, VAC springs, and a VAC head gasket. Under previous ownership, it was fitted with an Active Autowerks Stage 2 Gen VI supercharger kit with methanol and fuel systems, Active Autowerks headers, and an Active Autowerks Gen6 exhaust system. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 6-speed SMG transmission that has been converted to manual operation. Stopping power has been upgraded with a PFC big brake kit, and the suspension features Bilstein PSS10 coilovers, PowerFlex rear trailing arm bushings, and Ground Control rear shock mounts. The seller notes the clutch was recently replaced along with the belts, fluids, and filters.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “The BMW M3 is a special model noted for its looks, performance, and reliability. This car takes all of those elements to a higher level. We can't go anywhere without this car getting full attention. Even with crazy exotics, this car gets the attention. Most of the time it will outperform exotics with over 600hp that was detuned for traction. It drives fantastically. Your wife can drive it to the grocery store, or you can light up the new Michelins as you are cruising 60 mph on the Interstate. It is truly an amazing car that has been refined by the best engineers and technicians with racing and top performance experience. The level of detail that has gone into this car rivals the best builders in any make and model. We encourage you to study the pictures and note some of the incredible details. There is a documented history of the engine build, along with a full-service history. Thank you for your interest in following our auction. We look forward to your comments, feedback, and especially the bids.”

@MattShaw, any dyno sheets to verify the current increase to 600hp from 333hp stock?
Is it tuned on 93? Would you trust it to drive to New York?

3000lbs and 600hp…not 6000. Wow!!
In terms of shake, there is no shake! Rail Road tracks can upset any car, especially sports cars with stiffer settings and lower suspension travel. With the new MPS4S tires I think you will find an amazing level of confidence. It’s just hard to sustain 140 in Nashville traffic. Overall the car feels great! And we drive a lot of fast cars really hard. I just hate this is a convertible or it would not be for sale!
The internals of the engine are capable of 800+ horsepower but the M3 becomes too much. We do a lot of racing and high performance builds. In our experience and opinion 3000lbs and 6000hp is a sweet spot for drivability, reliability and durability. An engine is a pump. The more pressure tou run through it the shorter the life expectancy. Our M3 is built for performance and longevity. That’s what the owner wanted so that’s what we did.
Hmmm, what to expect. I would expect you to giggle every time you get in the throttle of this car! I would expect you to have a conversation every time you stop for gas. I would expect this car to deliver many years of high performance when monitored and maintained correctly. Yes, it is unique but it has been debugged, sorted and tuned in every way. The owner is OCD and ADD and hell. I’m sure he is reading this and is offended but truth is truth and he spent what it took to get it right! Many shops can get cars 80% and even 90% fully sorted. We are the last 10%. We just can’t give up until its right!
how was this detuned, and therefore how much horsepower is it making now?
There is less than 5000 miles on the engine build. Exact current mileage is 68965. Engine build in 2014 was 64.000 miles.
The M3 has 200 cell race cats. It passes TN emissions and meets the DOT emissions standards. I cannot speak for California but in my past experience DOT emissions standards are consistent across the country.

I had an 02 E46 M3 vert years ago that suffered from severe cowl shake. Going over speed humps and railroad tracks would result upset the front end and cause the windshield/A-pillars to noticeably shake.
@MattShaw - how is the cowl shake on this E46?
so i've never been a big fan of major mods, but this is a beauty!
my concern has always been reliability. i've owned at least 15 bmw's (2002tii-m850) and have never had a problem.
any opinions on what to expect from this beast?
i really want it!
@MattShaw - maybe I missed it, but when was the motor work done and do we know how many miles post rebuild the M3 has driven. Beautiful car BTW. Has my attention.
Does this still have cats and can it pass smog in Ca?

As we get closer to the auction close we encourage bidders to consider all the modifications and details of our M3. No expense has bern spared by the current BMW owner. As awesome as the car is with multiple Porsche and Ferrari super cars the M3 just doesn't get driven. We have thoroughly enjoyed building and driving the M3 but its time for someone else to appreciate this car. If you consider all the expense in the M 3 you’ll be getting all the performance for pennies on the dollar. Thank you and good luck to all the bidders.

My apologies for the delay. We have a brand new set of MPS4S tires for the M3. We debated MPS4S or MPSC2. The optimal tire size is 235/35-19 and 275/35-19 mounted on the Apex 8.5x19 and 10x19 wheels. Unfortunately a set of those sizes is not available in the MPSC. We’d rather have the Cup tire but the MPS4S is a fine tire and will have to do. We are just coming off of a track weekend with the National Z Car Club. Nissan Headquarters is based 5 minutes from our shop and they kept us busy all weekend. The M3 is back in focus and tires will get mounted by the end of the auction. They are fresh dates from Tire Rack and have zero miles. Congratulations to the lucky winner of the auction. Brand new stickers!

Hi, It looks like all the tires are at least 10 years old. Can you tell me the correct sizes. Thanks
