Toyota’s “mid-ship runabout 2-seater” remained a staple among affordable, mid-engined sports cars for over two decades. Designed from inception as a dedicated driver’s car and supported by Toyota’s reputation for reliability, the MR2 earned popularity both on the road and track. The third and final generation debuted in 1999 as a rear-wheel-drive convertible powered by an all-aluminum inline four-cylinder engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. This 2001 example is finished in Black over a tan interior and features the optional Leather Package, carbon fiber dashboard trim, and carpet floor mats. Showing approximately 12k miles on the odometer, it is now being offered for auction by the seller out of South Carolina.
This MR2 Spyder is finished in Black with a tan manually retractable soft top as part of the Leather Package. Equipment includes a heated rear window, a vented engine cover, side air intakes, fender flares, color-matched power side mirrors, a polished exhaust outlet, and optional alloy wheel locks. The factory 15” five-spoke wheels come dressed in Yokohama Advan A-043 tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin features tan leather upholstery along the seats and doors, which is attributed to the premium leather package. Additional options include carpet floor mats and a carbon fiber dashboard. Equipment includes air conditioning, a CD stereo, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, storage compartments behind the seats, a lockable glovebox, and power accessories.
Power is derived from a mid-mounted 1.8L 1ZZ-FED inline-four featuring Toyota VVT-i variable valve timing and an output of 138 HP and 127 lb-ft of torque stock. The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed manual transmission. The CARFAX report shows a total of 8 service history entries.
This sale will include a clean title, a window sticker, owner’s manuals, and a collection of service records.

Gorgeous car. As someone who has the full range of cars, from high-end Italian exotics to our favorite German sports cars, it's hard to argue anything provides the value these affordable Japanese convertibles provide. Well engineered, bulletproof, comfortable, reliable, and (with age) getting to be more rare and therefore distinctive. I have a very low mile RX7 convertible that scratches this itch or I'd be bidding here. Good luck with the auction.
