Marking the inaugural year of the water-cooled Porsche 911 Turbo, this 2001 996 Turbo Coupe pairs a 6-speed manual transmission with its 3.6-liter Mezger flat-six. It comes finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over Graphite Grey leather upholstery and features various upgrades, including a lower front spoiler, carbon fiber side air intake trim, 997 shifter console, and H&R lowering springs. Showing approximately 73k miles on the odometer, this Turbo is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Texas.
The 996 Turbo features wider fenders than a contemporary Carrera as well as side air intakes, flared rocker panels, unique bumpers, and a fixed rear spoiler with a hydraulic speed-activated wing. Finished in Arctic Silver Metallic, this Coupe has been modified with H&R lowering springs, a lower front spoiler, carbon fiber side air intake trim, front end paint protection film, and a ceramic coating as of March 2024. It rides on factory 18” 911 Turbo Twist wheels wrapped in Continental Extreme Contact tires with approximately 6-7mm of tread remaining. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin features Graphite Grey supple leather complemented by carbon fiber trim along the steering wheel and shifter. A genuine Porsche 997 shifter console and Alcantara handbrake trim have also been fitted. The car also features an Alcantara headliner, automatic climate control, cruise control, and a central locking system. A few minor imperfections are noted, and the driver’s side air vent has been replaced.
Derived from the 911 GT1 Le Mans race car, the 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged Mezger flat-six engine is factory-rated at 415 HP and 415 lb-ft of torque, sending power to all four wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. The seller reports that an engine reseal was performed within the last 1,500 miles, along with the replacement of the left turbocharger, clutch, alternator, and spark plugs.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “Runs and drives perfectly. The 997 shifter console upgrade, combined with a transmission oil change (Mobil 1 PTX 75W90), makes the car feel amazing. The BMC air filter gives noticeably more power. H&R lowering springs give it the perfect stance, along with improved looks from the front aero spoiler upgrade. Continental extreme contact tires, combined with the impressive Porsche AWD system, enable the car to grip the road tightly and handle all the power the engine can produce, allowing you to exit every corner with confidence. PPF on the front of the car, with a ceramic coating applied to the entire car last year. The paint is perfect and has always been stored in the garage during my ownership. Carbon fiber side air intakes are Porsche factory stamped and set the car apart from the average 996TT.”

No second gear pop out or grinding at all while shifting in all gears. Transmission is flawless. Fresh Mobil 1 PTX 75W-90 fluid change. Service history shows dealer installed new shift cables few years back. Cosmetics of the transmission suggests it might have been removed at some point but not all dealer or service documentation is detailed so can't confirm. It shifts so well that I suspect second gear pop out might have been addressed. You will be impressed when you shift through the gears. Its dialed in.
Clutch was replace with engine out re-seal out. Just a timing thing since the engine was already out. No clutch issues.

@Tx911 has any work been done in the transmission outside of the new clutch? Also, why was that needed? Any second gear pop out or grinding?

996 generation turbos and GT cars have the Mezger engine design; a derivative of the engine developed for the GT1 race car.
No IMS issues on Mezger engines; its the same engine case as the air-cooled 964. In the image gallery, its the picture with M96 then a long serial number.
Has the IMS bearing been updated

@hamachibelly original side intakes come with the sale. Audio system completely stock. Coolant lines do not appear to have been pinned or welded. I chose not to have the job done as many people have put hundreds of thousands of miles on these engines (Mezger water cooled heads) off track with no issues. Expert mechanics don't recommend it either unless track use is planned.
Does it come with the original side intakes?
Have the coolant lines pinned or welded?
Is the audio system completely stock?
@Tx911 Correction: it can't be scratched in the same way; its not painted
@Tx911 New Porsche factory console can be scratched in the same way; its not painted.
Like most 996's lots of paint scratches
Why was the center console replaced? Thank You.
