Among the final model year of BMW’s third-generation 7 Series, this 2001 BMW 740iL is powered by a 4.4-liter V8 engine paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission. Offering a long wheelbase configuration, the car comes finished in Cypress Green over a tan leather interior and equips a power sunroof, xenon headlamps, 18” M Sport wheels, heated and power-adjustable seats, power accessories, and an AM/FM stereo with CD player, and more. Showing under 60k miles on the odometer, this 740iL is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida.

Presenting an extended wheelbase compared to the standard E38, this 740iL is finished in Cypress Green Metallic and features a power sunroof, black bodyside moldings, xenon headlamps with washers, integrated fog lights, and revised facelift-specific headlights and taillights. It rides on 18” M Parellel wheels wrapped in Continental ContiProContact tires. The seller notes minor road-going blemishes, but the paint remains in showroom condition with new M badging. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin is trimmed in tan leather with wood veneer accents on the dash, center console, and door panels. Amenities include a multi-function steering wheel, power-adjustable and heated front seats, automatic climate control, cruise control, an AM/FM stereo with CD player, power windows, locks, and mirrors. The seller notes the leather upholstery shows minimal wear, and custom metal floor mats have been fitted. All gauges and electronics are reported to be in proper working order.

Power comes from a 4.4-liter M62 V8 engine factory-rated at 282 HP and 324 lb-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed automatic transmission with Steptronic manual shift mode. The chassis features fully independent suspension with MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link setup in the rear, while braking is facilitated by four-wheel ventilated disc brakes with ABS. The seller reports the car was serviced at 59,394 miles, including an oil change and fluid check, and a new starter was installed at 57,695 miles. A total of 16 service records are noted on the included CARFAX report. The seller states there are no known mechanical issues.

This sale will include the owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “This 2001 BMW 740iL is powered by a V8 engine paired with an automatic transmission. It is finished in Cypress Green over a premium tan leather interior and is equipped with air conditioning, an AM/FM radio with CD player and a full suite of power amenities, including windows, locks, seats, steering and brakes. Additional features include heated seats, cruise control, traction control and an anti-theft system. Safety is addressed with anti-lock brakes, driver and passenger airbags, and seatbelts. The power sunroof includes front and rear wind deflectors. Riding on OEM M Sport wheels, this BMW also features hand-painted pinstripes, unique decals and special-order metal floor mats. 16 service records reported on car fax.”

    @mush1963 - Thanks!

  • mush1963 (seller) 7 hours, 16 minutesago

    @chrisl911 it seems like it was a new car exported from Brazil. Don’t really have an answer why? But it was a brand new car maybe a dealer bought in to the U.S. as for no records since 2001 I again have no answer to be 100% actuate . I do know the owner was very wealthy and probably didn’t drive the car much and it didn’t need any service The car is 100% look at others with these options. Look at the keys how new they look. The pedals same thing no wear and the front seat holster is alos not worn all signs of low mileage. I hope I helped with your questions

  • chrisl911 (registered bidder) 8 hoursago

    Hello, I have two questions: Why was the car exported from Brazil to the US in 2001 and what happened after October 2021? There are no service records after 2021 on the CARFAX and no additional mileage added? Thanks

    @mush1963

    Is that a typo? Chain guides were replaced at 56k?

  • mush1963 (seller) 3 days, 13 hoursago

    @KT442 yes the range is all over the place and sometimes people get lucky the issue with BJ is there’s no reserve so when people put their cars in they have to take the reserve. They have no choice the matter if it sells for a dollar or 1 million they have to accept in the car sold and actually Barrett owns the car once you register it so sometimes you can catch a fish. You just have to go in a lot of ponds

  • KT442 (registered bidder) 3 days, 13 hoursago

    These E38 versions catch the eye as they drive by. I watch different sites and I know the pricing has a large range. It was about 5-6 weeks ago when I saw a Blue version go for $6600 with very similar equipment and miles at BJ.

  • mush1963 (seller) 3 days, 14 hoursago

    @KT442 Thanks for your response. I truly appreciate your comments and I agree and I know that this is a unicorn for that Bmw collector/enthusiast I did do my research I felt and was fairly aggressive with my price to be more than fair on my reserve. It’s hard to tell a story when the car is so nice and not seeing it in person . Both the 750 and the 745 I think are great cars so I think it’s a matter of opinion I like the body style of this car much better. It’s just old school and it brings back. Great memories not really looking for any kind of trades, but I appreciate the offer and I wish you good luck

  • mush1963 (seller) 3 days, 14 hoursago

    @lennon997 yes the car is in lake worth florida . Please call me we Cana range a time that works for you

  • KT442 (registered bidder) 3 days, 16 hoursago

    I am not local to Florida like Lennon997 is but I have (3) 2001 BMW 740iL. If this was a 750, I feel bidding would be closer to your reserve. If your interested in any trades, I am happy to let a few of mine leave my warehouse but my feeling is you are not an enthusiastic BMW dealership that wants more of them.

    Please all who are interested it was kindly brought to my attention . The front of the hood looked out of Alignment. My Mecahnic checked it and the hold was not closed correct Please see the last two pics for the hood closed correct

  • mush1963 (seller) 5 days, 15 hoursago

    @WTT my mechanic, checked it. I added the pictures. The rubber bushings were little off, so whoever shut the hood last just shut it kinda wonky that makes sense. But you can see the pictures I added it’s perfectly aligned. I knew it was, but I didn’t want to speak out, so let me know if you have any questions

    thanks for pointing that out, I was confused to your question. Yes I see what you are talking about with the hood. I am out of the office. However I called my mechanic he will look and see what and if there is any issue. I am very confident I know what it is. However I don't want to speak till I know 100% keep you posted.

  • WTT (registered bidder) 5 days, 19 hoursago

    @seller

    Please see picture 14 vs 15 where the hood meets the top of the headlight frame. Do you see the substantial gap?

  • mush1963 (seller) 5 days, 19 hoursago

    @WTT good afternoon, thanks for the question. I think its the angel of the photo the hood is not unhinged.. the hood closes perfectly and is lined up with both right and left side fenders

  • WTT (registered bidder) 5 days, 20 hoursago

    @Seller

    The driver's side front engine hood appears to be higher than the passenger side. Is it unhinged?
