  • Lot #: V-0061583-MP

This 1998 Porsche 996 Carrera Coupe was initially delivered in Japan and imported to the United States upon the seller’s acquisition in 2024. Finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a black interior, this example pairs a 5-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission with its 3.4-liter flat-six engine and rides on optional 18” 993 Turbo Technology hollow-spoke wheels. Accompanied by Japanese-language owner’s manuals and inspection documentation, this meticulously maintained Carrera is now being offered for auction out of Texas with less than 23k miles showing on the odometer.

This early 996 was ordered in Arctic Silver Metallic (L92U) and has been fitted with a GT3-style front bumper and side skirts. Equipped without bumperettes as standard, the car also features an electric sunroof, integrated fog lights, a speed-activated rear spoiler, and dual exhaust outlets. The optional 18” 993 Turbo Technology hollow-spoke wheels are dressed in older Pirelli P Zero tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The Black interior includes power-adjustable leather front bucket seats, a four-spoke leather steering wheel with Tiptronic shift buttons, Carrera-branded door sills, power windows and door locks, automatic climate control, and an aftermarket Pioneer Carrozzeria head unit with navigation and a reversing camera. All gauges and electronics are reported to be in proper working order.

The naturally aspirated 3.4-liter flat-six engine was factory-rated at 296 HP and 258 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed Tiptronic S automatic transaxle with a manual shifting mode. Standard performance features include Automatic Brake Differential (ABD) and fixed 4-piston brakes with cross-drilled discs at all four corners. The seller states that a comprehensive 60-point inspection, known as “Shaken,” was performed every two years, as required by Japan’s regulations.

This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, and a flush-mount kit for the rear parking sensors.

The seller would like you to know: “I am a very detail-oriented engineer who bought this car in Japan. My Japanese agent inspected the car for any underbody rust (none), engine operation (excellent), and overall condition inside and out (excellent). In Japan, every car must be rigorously inspected every 2 years, with any failed items corrected before a new sticker is granted. This comprehensive inspection is called "Shaken".  It includes at least a 60-point inspection, including Safety (Lights, Brakes, Tires, Wipers, Seat Belts, Speedometer accuracy, Exhaust & Horn), Emissions, Operational & Structural Integrity (Steering, Windows, Undercarriage (Corrosion & Loose Bolts), Frame, Engine operation, etc), Engine & Chassis numbers match, etc.  I am moving & no longer have room to store this car.”

    @CharliesClassics
Charlie, what happened with the yellow one?

  • Segura996 (registered bidder) 2 daysago

The last offer seems very reasonable for a silver tip car… good luck to the buyer and seller!

  • Segura996 (registered bidder) 2 daysago

Anything above 30 seems a bit strong for a silver car — if it were yellow or red, maybe. The market feels like it’s softening lately.

  • PlaPan (registered bidder) 2 days, 2 hoursago

    Very nice early 996...

If it was a manual, it would be 35-40k.

It is worth the 30k to the right person - who was not here today.

  • SRMPDX 2 days, 4 hoursago

maybe a 6-speed would be worth $30k, but not a tip

@uscarrera : I took mass transit Touring Japan for a month, as do most Japanese. Japan is an overwhelmingly urban country, with approximately 92% of its population living in cities, leaving only about 8% in rural areas. This high degree of urbanization is due to a concentration of population in the 25% of plains and few in a largely (75%) mountainous terrain, combined with limited habitable land.

Interesting the last few Japanese imports I have seen for sale have been Tiptronic I wonder if that is preferred in that market or just a coincidence?

@seller may be able to decipher part numbers much easier than Google translate for all the documents. Thank you for taking the time to upload everything.

  • CharliesClassics (seller) 3 days, 9 hoursago

@Simba1941 Thank You for your real world experience, which I do not have. From my research, all 996.1 (1998-mid 2000) had the two row IMS bearing, which apparently has <1% failure, again from my reading. My sense is most American cars have greater likelihood of major component failure. Our 2 older Honda Odyssey vans were top rated, one transmission failed of the two. Everyone's risk tolerance is different, so some will spend the ~$3k to sleep better, some may not. Again, appreciate your experience! I have scanned all ~12 of the Shaken Inspection/Maintenance reports & will try to upload them.

  • Simba1941 (registered bidder) 3 days, 11 hoursago

@seller thank you. I have had 9 911’s over the past 30 years. 2 of which were 99’s. One IMS bearing failure at 67,000 miles. The other one nothing with over 100,000 miles. That’s why I asked. It is usually the low mileage ones that are sitting around. I will keep it in mind as far as bidding because I would do a bearing solution, AOS solution and just be done with it as well as the other different maintenance thank you again.

@Buntz319 : I am not sure if the navigation can be changed to English. I have read some models can others cannot.

  • CharliesClassics (seller) 4 daysago

@Simba1941 : Yes Valid Texas Title. Extensive biannual records since 1998. I have not translated all records, so not sure if any IMS/RMS replacement, but certain it is a two row bearing, with <1% problems.

  • Buntz319 (registered bidder) 4 days, 2 hoursago

can navigation system be changed to english? thanks

  • Simba1941 (registered bidder) 4 days, 8 hoursago

@seller any records on IMS/AOS/RMS. Also title is a Texas title? Thank you!

  • Patrick3000 (registered bidder) 4 days, 9 hoursago

@CharliesClassics Sorry to trouble you. Looking for confirmation that the 408’s are still with the car. GLWYS

  • CharliesClassics (seller) 4 days, 11 hoursago

@Collexxxter : To my knowledge all extra electronics work fine. Silver SuperCat on left of Stereo is a functioning Radar Detector. The aftermarket Pioneer Carrozzeria head unit (think Elite Pioneer line made for JDM) with navigation and a reversing camera works well too. Menu is in Japanese. You can go through all functions and make your way by using Translator on your phone.
Some You-tubers provide step by step how to convert the language to English, as most of these support Spanish, English and Japanese. Not sure what the two small boxes are in #76, between Stereo & Climate Control. Backup camera and Parking Assist sensors are excellent.

  • Collexxxter (registered bidder) 4 days, 20 hoursago

@CharliesClassics - what are all the varied Japanese electronics adds? And which ones work please?

  • CharliesClassics (seller) 5 days, 2 hoursago

@Patrick3000 : Picture 94 has the Option Codes which does show code 408, which is optional 18" 993 Turbo Technology Hollow Spoke Wheels, also stated in the listing write-up.

  • CharliesClassics (seller) 5 days, 2 hoursago

Minor correction to the listing write - up. There is an inexpensive flush-mount kit for the rear parking sensors available on the market, but it is not included with the sale. The Parking Assist works very well.

  • CharliesClassics (seller) 5 days, 3 hoursago

@mrmadell : There are no tears, scuffs, or any imperfections on the interior, including seat bolsters. The interior is not only pristine, but actually (I know hard to believe) has the new car smell. Further, everything works & works well.

  • CharliesClassics (seller) 5 days, 3 hoursago

@Collexxxter : Picture 94 has the Option Codes which does not mention Sport Package, so I do not know, & have no part numbers, but the nose & side skirts look OEM to me.

  • CharliesClassics (seller) 5 days, 3 hoursago

@mrmadell : Video of inside, outside, & running..... uploading in next few minutes by PCARMARKET.

  • CharliesClassics (seller) 5 days, 3 hoursago

@Patrick3000 : I am not trying to be evasive, but the car is in my storage unit, I have no lift available, threw out my back 2 days ago, cannot crawl under it now, sorry. I am confident these are original Porsche wheels correctly sized to this car.

  • mrmadell (registered bidder) 5 days, 16 hoursago

In pictures 76 and 78 is that a tear on the passenger’s seat bolster?

  • Collexxxter (registered bidder) 5 days, 20 hoursago

@CharliesClassics - are the skirts and nose OEM "sport package" pieces w/ part numbers? Or?

  • mrmadell (registered bidder) 6 days, 13 hoursago

Hello. Is it possible to get a few videos? (Inside, outside, and cold start)
