Created to revive the brand’s motorsport identity, the Renault Sport Spider debuted at the 1994 Geneva Motor Show as a lightweight open-top roadster and served as the race car platform for the Spider Trophy one-make racing series. It was manufactured at the Alpine factory in Dieppe, France, featuring an aluminum chassis, composite bodywork, scissor doors, double-wishbone suspension, vented disc brakes, and a 2.0-liter 16-valve F7R inline-four engine paired with a JC5 5-speed manual gearbox. This yellow-finished example is one of approximately 1,640 road-going versions produced between 1996 and 1999. It was originally sold in Japan and moved to Germany before eventually being imported to the U.S. in July 2024. Accompanied by a clean title, this rare and unique sports car is now being offered for auction out of New Jersey with approximately 11k miles showing on the odometer.
The Renault Sport Spider uses a lightweight welded-box aluminum chassis manufactured by the same Danish firm that produced the Lotus Elise. Its composite bodywork was designed by Patrick Le Quément and features a forward-hinged clamshell hood, scissor doors, side air intakes, and an integrated roll bar. This example is finished in yellow with contrasting charcoal grey lower bodywork and features a full glass windshield, a rarely seen configuration on the early road-legal models. Equipment includes dual mirrors, road-compliant lighting, a polished external fuel cap, and silver five-spoke alloy wheels dressed in Yokohama tires. The seller notes some surface scratches on the exterior, detailed images are provided in the gallery.
Revealing an exposed aluminum tub, the racing-style cockpit features black and grey Recaro bucket seats, centrally mounted yellow seatbelts, a three-spoke leather steering wheel, adjustable pedals, storage nets, a body-colored center console, a ball shift knob, a central digital speedometer/odometer, and a three-gauge analog instrument cluster.
The transverse mid-mounted 2.0-liter 16-valve F7R inline-four engine was factory-rated at 148 HP. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a JC5 5-speed manual gearbox. The Sport Spider employs double wishbone front and rear suspension, coil springs, anti-roll bars, and 300mm vented disc brakes at each corner.
This sale will include a jack and a clean title.

@RandyInRoswellGA Thats the foot rest. NOT a pedal. But this is a gem for sure. I take to different meets and it gets insane attention and it competes with Lotus Elise.
I see in the photo of the pedals, there is a 4th pedal. Is that old school emergency brake? I'm really digging this car... looks like a blast to drive.
