Introduced as Bentley’s first stand-alone model following its separation from Rolls-Royce, the Continental R served as the marque’s flagship grand tourer throughout the 1990s. This 1996 example is powered by a turbocharged 6.75-liter V8 engine paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission and is finished in British Racing Green over a Soft Tan leather interior. It features brake and rear suspension accumulators, 17″ alloy wheels, power-adjustable front seats, a cassette stereo, and more. Showing under 47k miles on the odometer, this meticulously maintained Continental R is now being offered for auction on behalf of the seller out of Florida.
The Continental R marked the first Bentley since 1965 to feature model-specific bodywork independent of Rolls-Royce. The Mulliner Park Ward-built body of this example is finished in British Racing Green and features bright mesh grilles, quad headlamps, chrome trim along the bumpers and window surrounds, and dual exhaust outlets. It rides on 17″ five-spoke Bentley alloy wheels fitted with Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza tires from 2022 and driven approximately 5k miles. The paint benefits from ceramic coating, and the seller notes minor touched-up stone chips along with a small dent on the passenger-side front fender. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
Inside, the cabin is upholstered in Soft Tan leather with green piping and matching door panels, carpets, and mouton wool overlays, complemented by rich burled walnut veneers that accent the dashboard, center console, and door tops. Amenities include power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone climate control, a leather- and wood-rimmed steering wheel, and a cassette stereo system. A factory-installed glovebox-mounted mobile phone remains in place, though it is not connected. The seller notes two minor hairline cracks in the wood finish.
Power comes from a turbocharged and intercooled 6.75-liter V8 engine featuring an aluminum block and heads, generating a factory-rated 385 HP and 553 lb-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven through a 4-speed GM 4L80-E automatic transmission. The Continental R features a fully independent suspension and four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock braking system (ABS). Standard equipment includes a mineral oil hydraulic system with dual brake accumulators and rear suspension accumulators for consistent braking and self-leveling ride control. The seller reports the car has been fully serviced and is ready for continued use, with no known mechanical issues noted.
This sale will include the owner’s manuals, a spare tire, a car cover, a battery charger, a custom leather front and rear window sunscreen, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “This lovely Bentley Continental R has been meticulously cared for since new, here in Florida. Although registrations show Massachusetts, it has always had it's home in South Florida. Each of the 5 previous owners enjoyed it sparingly. One look and it is evident that it was always loved and never abused. The striking British Racing Green brings a true ambiance to where ever it is seen. On top of that is a wonderfully appointed interior with Parchment leather and striking Green Piping. One look and you can see that the detailers kept this jewel spotless both inside and out. If you have never been behind the wheel of a Continental R, you are missing a fantastic driving experience. This is by no means a small vehicle, but once you are seated, it feels much smaller. Once underway, you have an effortless feeling of performance. Power is immediate. Handling is precise and braking is incredible. It truly has much smaller driving characteristics. Amazing for such a substantial automobile. Fully Serviced and Ready for You. Give us a call Today to discuss how to get this beauty in your Stable.”

@tyroneattheraces I have a 98 Brooklands R. Same engine with a light -pressure turbo. Check engine light is on and no blown headgasket or any other issues. In fact, it runs perfectly. The issue is, these cars have a Zytek engine management system and if you don't have a Zytek reader, you can't get to far into the system to see whats going on. We have tried to find one and so far no luck. Bottom line, a check engine light is always a concern, but it may be a very minor one. If everything checks out on the engine, its not a major issue. When VW took over Crewe they said they would support all Crewe built cars, but they have failed to do so. This looks like a very nice Continental R. If its nicely sorted, they are great cars to own.
This example does NOT have blown head gaskets. When scanned, no errors showed up. There is no oil in the coolant and no coolant in the oil, and yes the oil cap was checked. Do not let the naysayers comments talk you out of a terrific automobile.
I had a Turbo R and the head gaskets went a few days after I got it. This was back in late 2019 when the head gasket issue these cars are tainted with reached peak PITA as no one had any. Bentley pulled the sale of them as they finally acknowledged (at least internally) that there was an issue with them not being up to the job. It took months to get the parts. Anyway, I just wanted to say that ‘Check Engine’ light does not mean the gaskets have retired in a huge cloud, it may just be an O2 sensor or something else fairly trivial.
The Bentley specialist servicing the car does not get picked up by CarFax. This is quite common in specialty automobiles.
carfax states last service in 2004 . Meticulously cared for ended 20 years ago.
I should have all service record soon.
On Head gasket damage : in the engine bay you have the "Small engine stick : where you can see the level of the oil - can be Clean but it you look on the LARGE aluminum OI filler cap I where you file up the oil - if then you see a white spongy paste attached on the cork seal then is the oil mixed with water - Headgasket damage .
That is by my Bentley the case Check ENGINE + WATER
#ContinentalS I think we will wait for the OBD scan results to make such an assessment. Generally coolant ends up in the oil with blown head gaskets. Oil is clean. I hope to have it scanned tomorrow morning.
Check engine is BAD - problem with Headgasket - Water
Top Cylinder Headgasket to replace $20.000 +0'Gara
This happened on most + 35000 miles Engine.
Those engines have same block as Cloud III 1964 - only some modification done to fit Carburettors - injection or Turbo .
Turbo's givre more compression on the engine - No good for the old type of Top Cylinders Head gaskets. Best Cylinder head gasket are manufactured in South Africa and distributed via INTROCAR which even made those improved.
Only buy the INTROCAR' Headgaskets.
Don't forget they are no more spare parts for those cars and very few workshop who want to do work on those as NO Spare parts -
old Bentley employees which were working on those cars 30 years ago don't work anymore .
Bentley VW will not touch . Bentley was sold to VW in 1995 - Rolls Royce was sold to BMW same year.
BEWARE ! The Sharks are waiting for you !

Hello Seller, lovely car. Could we see a cold start and short driving video please?
why is the check engine light on? I also would like to see any service records you may be able to provide. Thanks
@77Khamsin first off, love your Handle. I have lots of memories of Khamsins. I will post recent service records soon.
Beautiful R. If I'm reading the Carfax correctly (and I know that those reports can be less than accurate on occasion), the last service - before yours - was in 2004, is that correct to your knowledge? If so, can you give a detailed report of your "fully serviced" work? Thanks.
