This 1995 Ferrari F355 originally entered the market as a road-going model, delivered at Wide World of Cars in Spring Valley, New York. Following a theft and subsequent salvage title in 1996, the car underwent a meticulous transformation into a dedicated race car from 1997 to 2003. Finished in red with yellow MOMO racing livery, the build features carbon fiber body panels, Lexan windows, a roof-mounted air intake scoop, an adjustable rear wing, a Challenge-style rear grille, and 18” Speedline wheels. The stripped-down cabin includes a roll cage, fire suppression system, OMP bucket seats, MoTeC digital instrumentation, and a sought-after gated shifter. Powered by a replacement 3.5-liter V8 paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, the car is equipped with MoTeC engine management, a SuperTrapp Industries exhaust system, a FuelSafe fuel cell, Penske adjustable coilovers, Brembo disc brakes, and more. Thoroughly prepared for racing, this F355 Berlinetta is now offered for auction out of Tennessee.

The Pininfarina-designed bodywork has been customized with carbon-fiber components including the hood, headlight covers, bumpers, and doors, followed by a red refinish after the 1990s theft recovery. The exterior was later adorned with yellow MOMO livery and showcases exposed carbon fiber along the front splitter, custom roof scoop, door mirror caps, decklid, adjustable rear wing, and diffuser. Other modifications include a Lexan windshield and quarter windows, a Challenge-style rear grille, and a single exhaust outlet integrated into the rear bumper. The car rides on black 18” Speedline wheels wrapped in 235/645 front and 295/680 rear Pirelli slick tires. Door windows are not installed, and some imperfections are noted. Detailed photos are provided in the gallery.

Stripped for lightweight, the cockpit features a full roll cage with door bars, a pair of OMP racing seats with Schroth harnesses, and a polished gated shifter. Carbon fiber covers the dashboard and door panels. Safety and controls include a Lifeline fire suppression system, an aluminum switch panel with an electrical cutoff switch, and a MOMO steering wheel bearing the Prancing Horse emblem. The quick-release steering wheel frames a MoTeC digital instrument cluster, with a Traqmate data logger mounted. An ignition barrel and airbags are not equipped, and the selling dealer reports that approximately 20 miles have been added since their acquisition.

The replacement 3.5-liter DOHC V8, reportedly installed in 2013, includes JE high-compression pistons, high-compression cylinder heads, and a MoTeC engine management system. The seller adds that the engine was rebuilt in 2014 by Universal Autosports in Farmingdale, New York. The rear wheels are driven through a rebuilt 6-speed manual gearbox, upgraded in October 2007 with a Michelotto main shaft and a carbon clutch assembly. Equipment also includes a SuperTrapp Industries exhaust system and a front trunk-mounted FuelSafe aluminum fuel cell. The suspension has been lowered with Penske Racing three-way adjustable coilovers, while Brembo calipers and 14″ slotted multi-piece rotors facilitate braking.

This race-prepped F355 is offered with a bill of sale and a collection of documentation.

The seller would like you to know: “Here is a chance to own a very competitive Ferrari 355 race car. This was a highly intensive and no expense spared build. The car has incredible maintenance and construction history. Get on the track and keep up with f430 Challenge cars!”

@Miles.S thank you, I appreciate the answer.

@Awindmiller I am a dealer and own this one. We were able to get a TN title in my dealers name. I don't know that it will show up on the Carfax as registration was not gotten. As A dealer, I can transfer into my name without getting registration. All of my inventory cars are driven under dealer plates. New owner will have the title assigned to them and then turn the title into their local DMV to get a title in their name.

    Thanks!

Can you speak to the title not being transferred to TN after it was purchased?

The car had a full engine build in 2014. I am not positive on how many hours since then but I do not think it saw a lot of "serious" activity since then. Ideally this car will need to be gone through and inspected prior to being heavily tracked. Just from a safety standpoint alone. But that is fairly standard for most track cars. At this point the car runs and drives great and is very strong. There are many good prep shops that could handle the support on this car. It was a very extensive and high quality comprehensive build.

    Thanks!

@914Racer The timing belts on this car are serviceable without engine out. The fuel cell is in the front so you can access the belts. The timing belts and tensioner belts I would suggest be done annually due to the tune and horsepower this car made when I built it. The doors are carbon door shells. The driver's door weighs 13 pounds and the passenger's is 11 pounds. All they hold is air and paint. No real structure; like the other parts of the car.

OK… First off, I promise I will not ask if
it can be made street legal!

But this next question does get slightly into cliché territory, which is: when was the last time the cam belts were changed? These damn things have been the been the bane of my existence for a very long time now! I wonder how long they really, truly, actually last, especially in a car that gets only about 30 days of track time, spread over a year.

And if I remember correctly, the factory recommendation is to change them every five years regardless of miles, and if I'm also not mistaken, on a 355, it requires an engine-out service. (Which, hopefully is a less time-consuming task on this car with its simplified wiring and plumbing compared to a street car.)

So, yeah, when was the last time the belts were changed, and basically do they need to be changed now? Also, I'll ask the same thing about the tires, not from a wear standpoint, but from a time standpoint. (Apologies if that issue was handled in the description text.)

I currently own a 308 GT4 that I've been turning into a Vintage Racing-spec car, a seemingly never-ending project that has not been without many frustrations along the way. And then I got the bright idea to get a 360 Challenge car with engine management issues (botched aftermarket system versus restoring its original system).

Just thinking about either of those cars gives me a headache, so now to think about both of them at the same time is like a self-inflicted shock therapy session!

I hate to do the Goldilocks analogy, for obvious reasons, but this 355 is the bed that would maybe fit my particular needs the best, and allow me to have one car that would essentially do the duty of two others. Now that is a very relieving feeling!

Impressive, very professional build done here. My 308 was a ground-up project like this and I know how time-consuming and brain-depleting it can be. So congratulations!

Are the doors from a 348 and not a 355?
