The final evolution of Porsche’s front-engine two-door sports car, the 968, was introduced for the 1992 model year, featuring newly designed bodywork and a 3.0-liter 16-valve inline-four engine. This example is one of just 649 North American Coupe versions produced for the inaugural model year. Finished in Guards Red over Black interior upholstery, the car also features a glass sunroof along with a removable body-colored roof panel. Showing less than 80k miles on the odometer, this 968 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.
The body of the 968 is heavily adopted from the 944 S2, paired with a modernized front-end design that foreshadows that of the upcoming 993 model. This 1992 example is finished in traditional Guards Red and equipped with an electric glass sunroof, accompanied by a detachable body-colored roof panel. Equipment also includes pop-up headlamps with visible lenses, Cup design mirrors, fog lights, black Porsche-branded brake calipers, and 17” Cup 2 wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires from 2020 up front and 2019 at the rear. Inside, the driver is greeted with Black upholstery. Amenities include power front seats, folding rear seatbacks, power windows and mirrors, automatic climate control, cruise control, a quartz clock, a digital temperature display, and a locking glovebox. The seller notes that the air conditioning system blows cool but not cold. All other gauges, electronics, and accessories are confirmed to be in working order.
Displacing 3.0 liters, the 968’s inline-four DOHC engine features 16 valves and Porsche’s VarioCam variable valve timing system and is factory-rated at 236 HP and 225 lb-ft of torque. A 4-speed Tiptronic automatic transaxle drives the rear wheels. The CARFAX report notes the battery was replaced in May 2025.
This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, an air pump, a car cover, sales literature, and a body-colored roof panel.

If the car is in good mechanical condition, there is value at or above what’s been offered so far. Definitely not the buy it now price, but something……

@Spokayman the car accessories function as they are supposed to except the ac blows cool but not cold so i think it needs a recharge. those are the only wheels i have. i do not have any service records with the car. its a nice honest example of a 968 , not musuem quality but a very nice car that runs amazing.
@Spokayman both headlights have cracking in the plastic. dash has no cracks as far as i can see.seat has a small tear but minor.
the key fob locks and unlocks the doors. i do not know what the parch on the door is its a little puffy or raised , feels solid underneath.
@lortone i do not know if it was in events , i wish i had the answer but i do not.
@johnhyrum the clear coat on the mirrors is a little edgy and it appears that maybe the drivers door has been painted but the car looks great in person

Is the steering wheel wrap that has been added made of leather or synthetic leather?
It looks like there is some overspray shown in some of the photos under the car indicating some panels or areas have been resprayed. Do you have any insight into this or understanding as to why portions of the car have been repainted? Also, some photos appear to show the clear coat failing. How extensive and what areas are affected?

-The right headlight housing cover is cracked (photo 41). Is the left headlight housing cracked also (Photo 50)?
-Please show direct photos of the driver’s seat including the tear in the bolster (photo 54).
-What is underneath the wart/patch on the driver’s door card (photo 53)?
-The dash looks very nice considering how often they’re cracked, but can you show a clearer photo of what looks like a crack on the dash above the instrument cluster (photo 60)?
-What does the key fob operate?

It’s licensed and smog was done 3weeks ago, it’s Registered in California
Is it currently licensed and registered? Where? When was it last smog checked in CA??

-Do you have any maintenance and repair records?
-Is there ANYTHING that doesn’t function 100%? Electrical, mechanical, etc.
-Please post the option code information for this car.
-Are the factory wheels still available with the car? The Cup 2 wheels on the car now were not a factory option in 1992 and in ann case are not 968 wheels (wrong size).
