Beginning in Europe with a RoW-spec 1989 Porsche 964 Carrera 4 Coupe, this 911 underwent a custom backdate restoration by a previous owner between 2013 and 2015 in the style of the iconic 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7. It features custom long-hood bodywork, a sunroof delete, a fiberglass ducktail spoiler, exhaust headers, a Dansk GT3-style muffler, 17” Fuchs-style wheels, Bilstein suspension, a roll cage, houndstooth cloth seat centers, 6-point racing harnesses, a three-spoke MOMO steering wheel, a 5-speed G50 manual transaxle, a limited-slip differential, and a 3.6-liter M64 flat-six engine with dual carburetors. Purchased by the seller from its prior owner in Hamburg, Germany, and imported to the U.S. in 2022, this 964 RS 2.7 tribute is now being offered for auction out of North Carolina with approximately 35k kilometers (22k miles) showing on the odometer.

Refinished in two-stage grey paint, the bodywork has been modified with a backdated long-hood nose section, a sunroof delete, a fiberglass RSR-style front bumper, a ducktail rear spoiler, and an RS-style rear bumper. The exterior is decorated with red Carrera RS-style side stripes, rear decklid Porsche script, chrome side mirrors, dual center-mounted tailpipes, red-painted brake calipers, and 17” Fuchs-style wheels with red-painted centers and polished outer lips. The seller indicates that the paint is in excellent overall condition and that the front left quarter panel is made of metal, while the right front quarter is fiberglass. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The black interior has been modified with houndstooth cloth seat centers, a roll cage, a three-spoke MOMO steering wheel, and lightweight RS-style door panels. Accessories include power-adjustable front seats, power windows and door locks, a Webasto heater, a fire extinguisher, polished gauge bezels, 6-point racing harnesses, and drilled aluminum pedals. The air conditioning, radio, and rear seats have been removed for weight savings.

The air-cooled 3.6-liter M64 flat-six engine has been modified with dual carburetors, headers, and a Dansk GT3-style sport muffler. All four wheels are driven through a 5-speed G50 manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. An upgraded Bilstein adjustable suspension has been installed along with cross-drilled brake discs. The seller notes that restoration invoices are available showing over $129k invested between 2013 and 2015. There are no outstanding maintenance items reported.

This sale will include restoration records and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for visiting my auction of this stunning Porsche 964, backdated to the iconic 1973 911 2.7 RS! This custom build combines the classic look of the 1973 911 2.7 RS with the advanced technology of the 1990s. Under the hood, you'll find a 3.6-liter air-cooled flat-six engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential, producing around 300 horsepower. This car was imported from Hamburg, Germany, in June of 2022 and has been stored in a climate-controlled garage in North Carolina. All maintenance and repairs are up-to-date as of August 20, 2025.”

FYI- In today's world you couldn't come close to building this for $180,000 including the doner. This market has the most value currently. $180,000 is a steal

Driving one on the track might change your mind. Especially with the 89 C4, the answer for everything is more throttle.

  • HedonMotors (seller) 2 days, 17 hoursago

@FAS The car is equipped with Bilstein PSS10 (Performance Suspension System). This is a high-performance, ride-height–adjustable coil‑over suspension.
I do not know the current settings, as you can set it up however you like. The PSS10 has 10-Stage Adjustable Damping. You can fine-tune both compression and rebound settings across 10 indexed positions (typically from 10 = softest/most comfortable to 1 = stiffest/most aggressive) with a simple twist of a dial—no tools or jacking required.
It has Monotube Gas Damping Design to improve heat dissipation and control under load—boosting durability and performance.
You can also adjust the Ride Height – The threaded body allows lowering—roughly 30–50 mm (about 1.2–2 inches) front and rear in many applications—with preloaded, progressive-rate.
    I hope this helps.

Can you tell me what the model the adjustable Bilstein shocks are and spring rats
    front and rear?
    Thanks

  • HedonMotors (seller) 3 days, 17 hoursago

@HedonMotors This is a Webasto heating unit, and is tied into the cars blower box

Thanks for the quick reply. I assume the heat is directed off the front oil cooler. Is there a fan to power it or is is strictly forced air from the car moving forward? Also, is the AC evaporator still in the car? Condensers are easy to retrofit, evaporators not so much.

  • HedonMotors (seller) 3 days, 17 hoursago

@chuckent that is a heating system

  • chuckent (registered bidder) 3 days, 17 hoursago

Thanks. What is the purpose of the ductwork from the lower panel to the dash in the pictures of the frunk? fresh air?

  • HedonMotors (seller) 3 days, 18 hoursago

@chuckent I am not sure why they only did the one side in fiberglass, other than maybe to save weight or that the passenger side has the fuel inlet and all the connections that could be avoided.

any pictures of the frunk? we need to see that without carpet and details of backdate quality, as well as what is left of the AC/heat suitcase. What is the story on having one steel front quarter and one fiberglass? That is odd.

  • galen (registered bidder) 4 days, 15 hoursago

    Thanks for following up @HedonMotors

  • HedonMotors (seller) 4 days, 17 hoursago

@galen Thank you for your question. I spoke to the manager at Van Beurden (where the work was done in Belgium), and he remembers the car very well. One of the earlier invoices (2013592) shows the engine parts, however the invoice was to the owners address and not the VIN#. Since this was some time ago, he cannot be certain, however the labor may have been paid separately, although there is a large labor invoice a few month later. Later you will find the carburetors (2014085). The carburetors were tuned by AMT a local tuning shop. The engine runs very strong.

  • galen (registered bidder) 5 days, 5 hoursago

It sounds like the motor wasn’t rebuilt as part of the restoration. If that’s the case, what is the total mileage on motor/car?

  • HedonMotors (seller) 5 days, 10 hoursago

@galen I purchased the car in Hamburg, Germany, over a year ago. The invoice indicates the gearbox was part of the original build between 2013-2015.

    Car Specifications and Condition
    - Mileage: Since the build, the car has done 36,435 km or 22,640 miles.
    - Gearbox Condition: The gearbox is tight, shifts perfectly, and has no leaks.
    - Gearing: Based on how the car drives, you don't believe the gearing was changed.
    - Engine Condition: There's no leak-down test on the car, but it doesn't seem to lack compression.

  • galen (registered bidder) 5 days, 11 hoursago

Has the motor been rebuilt? If so, could you provide some details? If not, do you know the mileage? Compression/leak down? Also there’s a line item on an invoice showing a used gearbox. Was this rebuilt? Any gearing changes?

    Thanks

  • HedonMotors (seller) 6 days, 15 hoursago

@japancameraman Please see slides 137 and forward. You will see an invoice from DP as well Al all the build invoices. These invoices total approximately $130,000 USD. They have all been translated.

  • japancameraman 6 days, 19 hoursago

Which company did the backdate in Germany? It looks like a DP Motorsport backdate, except for the chrome headlight trim (not black). check out https://www.dp-motorsport.de/en/

  • HedonMotors (seller) 1 weekago

@targatarga My understanding is once the Jay Leno Law passes it may be exempt. It does not have CATS and I believe the carburetors may not pass the visual. I suggest you check with your local DMV.
