The 1987 model year saw one of the most significant evolutions for Porsche’s iconic 928 grand tourer with the introduction of the S4, updated with an aerodynamically improved body and a new 5.0-liter V8 engine with four valves per cylinder. This launch-year example is finished in Guards Red over Mahogany partial leather upholstery. Reportedly stored inside a climate-controlled environment for nearly 10 years, this S4 is accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and is now being offered for auction out of Nevada with approximately 68k miles showing on the odometer.

Distinguished from earlier 928 models, the S4 variant features a more aerodynamically optimized rounded nose and a black polyurethane rear spoiler. This example is finished in the traditional Porsche shade of Guards Red. Accessories include side protection moldings, an electric sunroof, and 16” forged aluminum flat disc wheels wrapped in Kumho Ecsta tires from 2003. The seller notes some paint imperfections, including scratches and minor peeling of the clear coat on the edges of the driver's rear quarter panel, as shown in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, the cabin is trimmed in Mahogany partial leather upholstery with a color-coordinated headliner and matching carpets. Amenities include air conditioning, central locking, 8-way power-adjustable front seats, power windows, and an upgraded Alpine stereo. A raised steering wheel hub, left-seat lumbar support, an amplifier system, and a high-output air conditioner were also selected.

The aluminum 5.0-liter DOHC V8 engine is factory-rated at 316 HP and 317 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed automatic transaxle, and power-assisted ventilated discs facilitate braking. Optional Sport Shock Absorbers are also equipped. The seller notes that a recent oil change was performed.

This sale will include a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: Fresh from long-term storage, this 1987 Porsche 928 S4 has been stored in a climate-controlled facility for over a decade without regular road use. Recently uncovered, it presents nicely while not being perfect, and makes a great candidate for a driver-quality car. While not driven regularly in 10+ years, it offers an exciting opportunity to service and enjoy one of the era’s quirkier Porsches.”

As we come into the last hour of the auction, a quick reminder: To ensure you see the most current bids and time remaining, please refresh your browser page frequently.

A word of advice: I strongly encourage you not to wait until the final seconds to place your bid. We have lost out on some incredible deals on Online Auctions because of a slow refresh and momentary lag. Don’t let that risk cost you a great car.

Thank you all for your interest, inquiries, and compliments.

    Good luck, and happy bidding-

    Hi @Collexxxter
-The dash and gauge pod have color matched caps over them. The leather is cracked under both covers.
    - A/C blows cold, heat blows hot, all fan speeds work. Just tested vent controls and flaps for the DEF and foot well cycle as intended, the center vents stay open and there is a slight whistle so a diaphragm may be leaking. Apologies that we had not caught that before.
-Like any car approaching its 40th birthday, the car be taken further depending on what level you want to take it to. Some people would enjoy it as is; others might want to restore or improve certain areas. Ultimately the car is a driver that needs the aforementioned timing belt service and the tires are out dated, but we are too busy to get to it and are selling her to free up room in the shop. We always recommend having your own inspection done, we are available to accommodate, that would best help determining any additional needs for your standards.
We will be posting a walkthrough video on it shortly.
    Cheers-

@CoolClassicsIntl - as that is a cap on the pod, assume cracks under it? How are upper dash cracks up near the vents? No clear photos. Also, how are all HAVAC features working? Hot, cold, through all flaps/sections? It's a hugely complex system to fix. Any known needs beyond the drips and TB/WP service?

Hello and welcome to our auction for this 1987 Porsche 928 S4.

This example comes in a great color combination and is offered in driver condition. Service performed within the last month includes an oil and filter change, draining and refilling the fuel, replacement of a faulty fuel pump relay, and replacement of several bulbs. Photos from a healthy compression test last month have been added to the listing and will be updated shortly. The car runs and drives very well. Following the noted service, it received five gallons of fresh fuel and was driven approximately thirty miles without issue. The lifters took about fifteen minutes to pump up, and the engine has been running strong since. The air conditioning works great. The red paint presents as expected, if not a little better, for a 60,000-mile car. The mahogany interior is definitely a highlight and presents well overall. The car is due for a timing belt and has a few leaks, leaving some drips but not puddles. Overall, it presents as a solid driver with eight healthy cylinders.

It’s time for someone else to give this 928 the attention and use it deserves.

We will do out best to answer questions within a single business day, so please do not hesitate to ask or reach out to schedule an inspection in person. The car is located at our main Reno, NV location.

Thanks for stopping by and we hope everyone has a great weekend.

    Happy Bidding!
