This 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa is finished in Guards Red over a Black partial leather interior and features a 5-speed G50 manual transaxle paired with its 3.2-liter flat-six engine. Configured for the U.S. market, it was acquired by the original owner at the Porsche factory in Germany through the European Delivery Program and was toured throughout Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, before being imported to the U.S. Having remained with its original owner until the seller’s purchase in 2020, this Carrera Targa is now being offered for auction out of Illinois accompanied by over 100 pages of maintenance records.

Finished in Guards Red, this 911 features a black Targa bar and a removable black vinyl roof panel. Equipment includes a front valence with integrated fog lights, power mirrors, a rear window wiper, black bumperettes, and 16” Fuchs forged alloy wheels with colored Porsche crest center caps. The seller adds that the paint remains in excellent original condition, and the tires show production date codes from 2013. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The Black partial leather interior includes power-adjustable seats, a four-spoke leather steering wheel, power windows, air-conditioning, cruise control, and a Blaupunkt Reno SQR 46 stereo. Records from the original ownership indicate that an erratic speedometer issue necessitated the replacement of the gauge in October 1986, and the odometer is said to read 1,637 miles less than the car’s actual mileage. The seller notes the clock's minute hand is stuck in the 12 o’clock position, and the tachometer was recently repaired.

Rated at 217 HP and 195 lb-ft of torque, the air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six engine is paired with a 5-speed G50 manual transaxle. A collection of over 100 service documents dating back to the original purchase is included in the sale, and recent maintenance includes an oil change, a new battery, alternator, and axle shaft assemblies.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, a tire inflator, a car cover, front bra covers, spare spark plugs, gaskets, sheepskin seat covers, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “I purchased this car on my retirement with the plan to become active in the Porsche world.  Commitment to other activities did not allow me to pursue this.  I have enjoyed Porsche ownership over the years, including 1991 and 2001 Turbos and a couple of Boxsters.  Asked by someone if there are any leaks in the rain, and I can say that I don't know because it has never been driven in inclement weather.  Always garaged and covered.”

I agree that this looks like a very nice G50 Targa example. Good luck to the seller and future buyer.

Wasn't sure if this was going to clear reserve. Beautiful example of a G50 era Targa, but seems to reinforce the notion of a softening air cooled market between here, Hagerty's and BAT. Hopefully a deal can be reached on this beauty.

Do you know why the gas cap door is a different color from the rest of the car? It’s a bit darker shade seem to be the same color of the rest of the car. Or it might be the fender that’s different shade. Take a look at picture 54.

There are no stone chips or door dings. The absence of any chips or dings is the reason I'm reluctant to take it anywhere. I enjoy daily driving my Golf R hard and have no qualms about driving anywhere in rain or snow. This Targa is special.

Does This car having any oil leaks?

  • rfrocket (registered bidder) 1 weekago

    @SRTarga Thank you

  • SRTarga (seller) 1 weekago

I know what you are seeing regarding hood. I just inspected it and found the rubber gasket that seals the hood is a little more prominent on the passenger side. The gasket itself is like new. The other explanation perhaps is that the use of the bra caused the minor distortion.

  • SRTarga (seller) 1 weekago

The receipts of work done since 2020 as well as photos of undercarriage are now being downloaded and should be available in the pictures very soon. I could not get paint thickness measurements but consulted with an expert at a local body shop who restored valuable vintage cars and he assured me that paint is original and in excellent condition. I don't know what has caused the passenger side of the hood to be a little off. Perhaps it was caused by the use of the bra in the past. A compression test has not been done.

  • tff (registered bidder) 1 weekago

Very nice 911 Targa here. A few questions for the @seller:
-I understand that this is an old car but slide 46 shows the passenger side of the hood raised a bit (and slide 44 shows a larger gap on that side). Any explanation for this? Just the way it is?
-Any other service since 2020 beyond the 2025 receipt shown?
-Although it's certainly possible (likely) that the paint is original, paint thickness measurements would go a long way to supporting that (and verifying how much paint thickness is left). Any chance to get thickness measurements?
-Any engine compression test numbers available?
    Thank you.

Also clutch and brake fluid was changed at recommended intervals. I suspect clutch was used by original owner with the same precision he maintained the car. I have driven a car with a clutch in 56 of 60 years I have driven and also take pride in my use.

  • SRTarga (seller) 1 weekago

The last service was done 9/03/25 which included oil change, tachometer repair, alternator replacement, r and r of axle shaft assemblies. Rear brakes were replaced 2/5/20 at 78,816 miles, and front and rear were replaced 7/17/15 at 73,362. See maintenance record no. 15-02. Will submit to PCAR those invoices that are missing in the pictures later today and you should be able to see them. These are services and invoices that occurred after original owner. Sorry they did not make it to the pictures thus far.

  • Hamptoncars18 (registered bidder) 1 weekago

When was the last service done. how much life % is left on the clutch and brakes.
Do you have readings of the paint.
    Thank you

  • SRTarga (seller) 1 week, 1 dayago

To begin with, every service and repair done to the car is extensively documented. Each maintenance record since new is pictured. I did not take pictures of the receipts and technical information related to each service but all are included in the files . For example, pictured is maintenance record 06-01, dated 7/25/06, pages 1 of 10. In the 9 pages after the owners pictured documentation, you will find all technical information related to the front suspension as well as each receipt for items purchased related to that service which was done. I am sorry that PCAR did not put the records in chronological order as I submitted to them. The original owner states that while touring Germany, Switzerland and Austria the speedometer had intermittent erratic needle behavior. On return to the States, he took it to Jack Daniels Motors who replaced the speedometer. He states in his maintenance record 86-01 that the speedometer was replaced "therefore total vehicle miles will be existing reading on speedometer plus 1637." In record 19-01 the speedometer was sent out for repair and he suspects that he drove about 30 miles before he reinstalled it. I, the 2nd and current owner, had no speedometer/odometer issues. I did have the tachometer repaired. I was trying to be sarcastic in my comment about the clock and all the instrumentation. It definitely keeps accurate time and the only problem with any of the cluster is the second hand is stuck at 12. Any paintwork or damage would have been documented by the compulsive original owner. I, too, had none done. I will try to get underbody photos in the morning. Thanks for your questions and comments.

  • spoolinyc (registered bidder) 1 week, 1 dayago

The odometer was repaired by the original owner and then again by the current owner? Then erratic speed behavior when new. Clock not working. Why so many issues around the cluster area?

How can we be sure the paint is original?

    Please provide detailed underbody photos.

The previous owner made a spread sheet (see pictures) that lists interval and service required, and he has recorded dates and mileage that each was performed. I would refer to this and my receipts of work done. Looking at 60,000 mile recommendations on the spreadsheet, which are not recorded, are the oxygen sensor change and front wheel bearings inspection. There is no rust.

  • CAllen626 (registered bidder) 1 week, 3 daysago

Hi, Is there any maintenance thats due? Even preventative? I went through the thorough documentation but never hurts to ask. Any rust to speak of?

  • SRTarga (seller) 1 week, 3 daysago

The paint is original. Any and everything is documented by the original owner and my own receipts. In Illinois for every car model before 2010 the mileage is exempt on title. Mileage on vehicle is documented by odometer reading plus that disclosed on maintenance record 86-01 noting a speedometer replacement at 1637 miles. Also 30 miles additional documented on maintenance record 19-01 for odometer repair. The only explanation for "Black" could be when I registered title I may have entered "Red/Black" and it was misrepresented. AC last serviced with AC hose replacement and recharge 9/13/92. I have not done any work on or used AC during my ownership of 5 years.

  • Simodaz (registered bidder) 1 week, 3 daysago

I take it this is original paint, why would the title state black? Does the AC blow cold? Why on earth would someone put exempt milage on the title, that's basically saying non original mileage. I am still very interested.
    Thanks.
