This 1987 BMW Alpina B7 Turbo Coupé is one of approximately 130 examples produced between 1984 and 1989, and among just 20 equipped with a catalytic converter under the B7/3 specification. Originally delivered in Switzerland, it later spent time in the United States and Kuwait before returning to the U.S. in 2023. Finished in Diamond Black Metallic over a Lipstick Red leather interior, it is powered by a turbocharged 3.4-liter inline-six paired with a dogleg 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. It features the Alpina aerodynamic body kit, an uprated suspension system, 17” multi-spoke wheels, a sunroof, Recaro seats, a Sony CDX-J10 head unit, and more. Showing approximately 40k kilometers (~25k miles) on the odometer, this rare and well-equipped B7 Turbo is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida.

The B7 Turbo Coupé was Alpina’s first comprehensive conversion of the BMW E24 6 Series, featuring signature styling cues such as a deep front air dam, decklid spoiler, and silver Alpina striping with matching badging. This example is finished in Diamond Black Metallic and wears Alpina graphics and trim. Additional details include quad headlights with integrated fog lights, a sunroof, body-colored side mirrors, and dual exhaust outlets. It rides on 17” 20-spoke Alpina alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli Cinturato P7 tires bearing 2017 date codes. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report dating to October 2022.

The cabin was retrimmed in Switzerland during the early 1990s with a full Lipstick Red leather “Exklusiv Interieur” package by Autosattlerei Wenger. It features multi-contour power-adjustable Recaro front seats, a contoured rear bench, and matching red door panels and carpeting. Amenities include air conditioning, a sliding steel sunroof, power windows, and burl wood trim integrated into the dashboard and center console. A Sony CDX-J10 head unit with a trunk-mounted CD changer has been installed, and an onboard computer is fitted in the lower center stack. The leather-wrapped Alpina steering wheel fronts Alpina-specific instrumentation, while a plaque on the center console identifies this example as B7 Turbo Coupé number 0113. All gauges and electronics are reported to be in proper working order.

Power comes from a turbocharged 3.4-liter inline-six designated as engine type B7/3. The rear wheels are driven through a close-ratio Getrag 265/5 dogleg 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The Alpina-tuned drivetrain produces a factory-rated 324 HP and 383 lb-ft of torque, offering tractable low-end performance distinct from non-catalyzed models. Additional Alpina upgrades include a Bilstein-based suspension system with progressive springs and gas-pressure dampers, as well as ventilated disc brakes at all four corners. Recent maintenance under current ownership includes valve adjustments, spark plug replacement, oil service, a new fuel filter, fuel pump replacement, fuel tank cleaning, and an A/C recharge.

This sale will include the owner’s manuals, a window sticker, a toolkit, a spare tire, a battery charger, a sales brochure, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “We are very proud to offer this rare piece of ALPINA history, a true highway monster. This car is directly out of our personal collection, and we have had the privilege of being the caretaker since late 2022. It has been the crown jewel of our fleet, but it is now time for another enthusiast to have their turn. Pictures do not do this car justice; it is immaculate inside, outside, and underneath. If anyone has any questions or concerns, please send them this way, or if interested in seeing the car in person, please press the “contact seller” link. A little rundown:

• One of only 20 examples produced with the B7/3 engine featuring a catalytic converter

• Finished in Diamond Black Metallic over an extravagant Lipstick Red leather interior

• Powered by a 324-hp 3.5-liter inline six-cylinder engine paired with a five-speed manual transmission

• Well-documented with Alpina order form, delivery certificate, and service booklet

First launched in 1978, the B7 Turbo Coupé/1 was Alpina’s first full conversion for the BMW 6 Series platform and featured a 300-brake-horsepower turbocharged variant of BMW’s inline six-cylinder engine sourced from the 630 CS, chassis code E24. Additional improvements included an upgraded Bilstein suspension, ventilated brake discs, a body kit, and signature Alpina multi-spoke wheels. While Alpina built 130 B7 Turbo Coupés upon BMW’s E24 6 Series chassis, just 20 of those were equipped with catalytic converters and designated the B7 Turbo Coupé/1 Katalysator. These cars produce only 324 horsepower, compared to the 334-horsepower output of their non-catalyzed B7/1 siblings. However, this exclusive 3.5-liter straight six-cylinder configuration offers a different driving experience entirely by generating more torque at lower engine speeds: 383 pound-feet at 2,400 rpm as opposed to 377 pound-feet at 3,000 rpm. Furthermore, this model’s engine boasts a slightly lower compression ratio of 7.45:1 instead of 8.0:1. While normally slightly less power would make a model less desirable, these are very highly sought after in Alpina circles due to their rarity and lower-end grunt, making for more tractable performance. Alpina documentation shows that this exquisite B7/1 was ordered by a prominent tax attorney from Zurich, Switzerland, on 3 April 1987 via Max Heidegger AG, Alpina’s sole distributor to Liechtenstein and Switzerland. Originally specified in the subtle color combination of Diamond Black over Beige Pearl leather, it was further outfitted with air conditioning, an electric sunroof, a five-speed manual transmission, a 25-percent locking differential, a driver’s side airbag, and Recaro seats. The car was completely converted by 27 April, and shortly thereafter shipped by Alpina to Heidegger’s premises in Triesen, Liechtenstein. Having been registered in Switzerland by its first recorded owner on 24 August 1987, entries in its accompanying service booklet testify to a life well-lived, full of regular maintenance appointments and consistent enjoyment through April 1992. At some point early in its Swiss residency, the car’s interior was retrimmed in its present red leather and fitted with sport seats. The car rides on Alpina multi-spoke wheels and has been outfitted with a Sony CDX-J10 CD player with a trunk-mounted disc changer. This fantastic Alpina B7 Turbo Coupe/1 is a fine illustration of what Alpina has subsequently become famous for: blistering performance married to elegant, understated looks. A gentleman’s supercar perfect for high-speed touring across Europe, this is a highly compelling alternative for someone looking for 6-Series looks and the performance of something more special than BMW’s usual offerings.”

That's a big asking price for this car, but as the saying goes, try finding another, let alone one nearly as nice. Sensational car. Congratulations to the eventual buyer.

I owned a 3-series Alpina in the mid 1980s. As highly regarded as stock BMWs were at the time, Alpina was at an entirely different level. Every performance metric was better, but the overall character remained the same. This car looks remarkable.

Hello Everyone thank you for all the bids and comments thus far. This is a very special low mileage B7 Kat and we are very proud to be able to bring it to auction.

We purchased this ALPINA B7 in late 2022 and have driven it very sparingly and performed some noteworthy maintenance.

I cannot express or convey how beautiful the interior is. The upholstery work was done in period in Switzerland by the original owner of this car. The craftsmanship that went into the interior is second to none. It genuinely looks like it was done in the factory. Every stitch is done to a high degree and the fit and finish of every panel is nothing short of perfection. As OG alpina collectors with over 12 “pre merger Alpinas” in the stable we LOVED the interior and how well it contrasted with the Diamantschwarz metallic.

This all original numbers matching car comes fully documented with ALPINA service stamps and certificate of Authenticity.

We are standing by to answer any and all questions.
