The original Ferrari Mondial debuted as the Mondial 8 at the 1980 Geneva Auto Salon, featuring a 2+2 seating configuration, Pininfarina-designed bodywork, and a mid-mounted 2.9-liter V8 engine shared with the 308 GTBi. This 1982 example is one of only 703 Mondial 8 models produced between 1980 and 1982. It comes finished in red over black Connolly leather upholstery and is equipped with a gated 5-speed manual transaxle, a limited-slip differential, quad-exit exhaust system, pop-up headlights, power windows, air conditioning, and period aftermarket Gotti wheels. The car had reportedly been under long-term ownership before the seller’s purchase in 2024 and has since been serviced with a new clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder, and fuel pump. Accompanied by the original wheels, window sticker, owner’s manuals, and toolkit, this Ferrari Mondial 8 is now being offered for auction out of North Carolina with less than 21k miles showing on the odometer.
The Ferrari Mondial’s bodywork was designed by Pininfarina and manufactured by coachbuilder Carrozzeria Scaglietti. Mounted to a revised version of the 308 GT4 chassis, it includes pop-up headlamps, integrated fog lights, hood louvers, straked side air intakes, and a vented engine cover framed by flying buttress C-pillars. This example is finished in red and features Scuderia fender shields, dual black mirrors, quad exhaust outlets, and period 16” Gotti multi-piece wheels with gold-painted centers. The original five-spoke alloy wheels are included in the sale. The seller adds that the exterior is in good overall condition and was recently polished and detailed. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The four-seater cabin is trimmed with black Connolly leather upholstery and matching carpets. Accessories include a black leather three-spoke steering wheel, a gated shifter assembly, power windows and door locks, air conditioning, a quartz clock, Veglia instrumentation, and an aftermarket stereo. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional.
Borrowed from the 308 GTBi/GTSi, the transversely mounted 2.9-liter Tipo F106 V8 engine features Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and Marelli Digiplex electronic ignition. It delivers up to 214 HP and 181 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. The car is equipped with independent double-wishbone suspension and four-wheel ventilated disc brakes. Since the seller’s purchase in 2024, it has been serviced with a new clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder, and fuel pump.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, the original window sticker, a toolkit, a spare tire, sales literature, a set of factory wheels, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “Very fun gated Ferrari that is very original and well sorted.”

Bid in the amount of $10,250
Well that is a good question. I didn’t even look. It went to full when I filled it up last time so…thinking I might need my wife to come get me
Is the fuel gauge not working or are you driving the car on empty?
@Mrosilio A cold start and driving video has been added to the listing.
Dino over here making me remember to ask if the head light movement is all fine and if the power windows have any perceivable issues? Any other latch/hinge related issues on any of the doors, boots, etc
@Wakegolf we appreciate your sacrifice good sir. 😂
Bid in the amount of $10,000
@Mrosilio Just took a couple last minute videos. Sorry if they aren’t professional grade! Missed my tee time taking the videos ha!
Any recent service/evaluation?
Just seeing this auction now - How has no one requested a cold start and driving video? Any chance we can get one before the auction ends?
@preachhames I completely agree! I get more looks in this than any other car I’ve ever owned. Drive it and enjoy it!
@Dinodinodino Yes the A/C blows cold and all the gauges work as they should.
@4NKARGUY Yes everything works as it should
With 3,000 mi driven past 27 years, regardless of 100 mi per year or just driving 3k in 1 year, this car will most definitely need a complete major service as is long overdue. Shocks most likely need replacement (costly and often hard to procure), cam belts before you drive, etc all….
After looking at interior closely the front seats do look hard and dry and may warrant replacement leather. Not sure what year tires are? How are the brakes? Even the unknown happens as just spent 3k on refurbishment on my ‘84 Mondial coupe headlamp lever arm (and blinker and wipers) as the plastic shrinks, internals eventually crack and need rebuild. Owned many Ferrari and love the Mondial once sorted out they are fun. AC really blow cold and ALL gauges work ?
Underside photos have been added to the listing gallery.
Does it run and drive as it should?
Such a great Ferrari to own & enjoy!
Maintenance is more than reasonable, and you will not pass yourself on the road with only 147 units delivered to North America out of the 703 units produced between 1980 & 1982.
Bid, win, rejoice, & drive this coupe A LOT!!!
Greg
Yes I will put it back on the lift and take more pictures in the morning.
Could you please provide additional pictures of the undercarriage? Specifically around the suspension, back side of the sheet metal etc. Much appreciated
Ahhhh, one of the two lowest entry point Ferrari models. It's nice seeing them listed as it likely means another new member of the family might be joining.
@Jetpaul Yes they are 2 valve. Not sure why they have those but still cool pieces to have.
All Mondial 8 are 2 valve, unlike the more advanced QV.
To one day replace the leather interior in a Mondial or any Ferrari for that matter is expensive. Enjoy the patina and tend to in less expensive ways ….until absolutely necessary is my opinion. Unfortunately many of the Mondial leather, especially the cabs ended up w hard and dry leather. GLWTA.
Bid in the amount of $8,000
Bid in the amount of $2,500
Lots of “Quattrovalvole” (4 Valves per cylinder) literature. But that wasn’t even an option on this year model? This is a 2 valve motor, correct?
@surf2day I bought it as a package with two other cars. Have had some fun with it while dialing it in and now time to let it go. I have not. The leather to me is in nice original shape. You could maybe have someone touch it up in a couple spots with black dye.
Just curious as to why you are selling after less than a year of ownership? Have you by chance had any quotes on putting new leather interior in it? Thank you.
