Equipped with a 3.0-liter flat-six engine paired with a 5-speed manual transaxle, this 1981 Porsche 911SC Targa is presented in Chiffon White over Chocolate Brown upholstery. The car is under the care of its second owner and benefits from a restored CIS fuel injection system, a new Targa top, an overhauled suspension with upgraded Turbo tie rods, a Dansk sport muffler, and a recent oil change. This classic air-cooled Targa is now being offered for auction out of Colorado.
The exterior is finished in Chiffon White (182) with a black Targa bar, a wraparound heated glass rear window, and a removable vinyl-covered roof panel. Other equipment includes body-colored headlamp rings, front fog lights, dual mirrors, a fender-mounted antenna, and 15” Fuchs wheels. The seller notes a new Targa top has been installed, and the tires were replaced in 2024. Imperfections include some rock chips and minor scratches on the exterior, as well as a heat blemish on the rear decklid. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin features Chocolate Brown partial leather upholstery and matching carpets. Accessories include a three-spoke MOMO Prototipo steering wheel, power windows, cruise control, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM/cassette radio. The seller notes the air conditioning system components have been removed and are included in the sale, along with the original steering wheel, which requires leather restoration. The odometer gears failed several years ago, and the car’s true mileage is unknown.
The fuel-injected 3.0-liter flat-six engine produces 180 HP and 175 lb-ft of torque stock, which is transmitted to the rear wheels through a 5-speed Type 915 manual transaxle. The seller states the output was increased to 201 HP in 1981. A Dansk muffler has been installed and the Bosch CIS fuel injection system is said to have been restored. Additionally, the suspension was reportedly overhauled and professionally set up with a hybrid Euro ride height and upgraded Turbo tie rods.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, a spare tire, a Lego model, some spare parts, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “A great runabout, and a reliable classic. Lego model included.”

@AMarsh hi heat is working great and no internal exhaust smells. Some of the usual leakage about 1/4 of a quart per oil change every 4-5 months.
@Dr10s hi not sure why this rocker panel has the bend. The previous owner in my opinion went over a curb. Some underside scraping indicates this. When I had Black Canyon go through alignment and suspension we addressed and was not significant to overall wear of car. I left this as is for history and story of the car. It was previously owned by an LA professional in the great 80s and 90s… The history of this original car is still forming.
Apologies about the late question, what is the condition of the heat exchangers? Any major fluid leaks from the engine overall?

Beautiful Targa. Any idea re what caused the driver side wheel well damage? Looks like the lower rocker panel is bent backwards into the wheel well.
@garyly hi unseasonal rain all week or I would have sent the video of the gear shift. It really is smooth shifting especially when up to temperature. My mechanic gave the g box a 7-out of 10.

DD = Daily Driving. Thanks for the update! Used to live near Golden and loved those canyons in my M3 and Macan GTS.
@AMarsh Hi I have based the added mileage on the amount of tank fill. Approximately 5 fills = 1500 miles per year.
No DDing its…not sure what that means, but I’m near some canyon carve roads so just a joy at mid speed. And mostly grocery grab and kid runs!
Hello and final hours are here. Welcome all bidders and bids. I am standing by for your questions and inquiries. This is a unique SC and starting with the 1981 are the development years leading to the next gen Carerra 3.2. This is the start of 200+ hp and the AC delete gives this car an even more solid feel. Aftermarket AC units have entered the market for easy access and installation without compromise in performance. Top off a great summer car. Looking forward to the next caretaker to enjoy. Thx for bidding!
Do you have an estimate of how many miles you've put on since the odometer failed? Is it mostly a sunny weekend driver or have you been DDing it?
Bid in the amount of $29,000
@DKratz Thanks for the vidoes, that's a big help. No worries if you don't get a driving video up. Your description of shifting into 1st is about what I would expect to hear.
@garyly hi I was not able to get the car out today to go through the gears for you. To answer about getting into first, it does take 1st rolling slowly. I will try tomorrow to get the car out and post the video. I changed tranny fluid and it shifts smoothly especially at operating temperature.

@DKratz Can you add a cold start video that shows the exhaust when the car is first started and the gauges at idle on cold start? Also, can you do a driving video from inside the car that shows you shifting through the gears and the gauges when the car is warmed up? Can you shift into 1st gear with the car rolling or do you have to stop to get into 1st?
@garyly Hi yes the rear deck has torn atop the RR speaker. I will get a better shot of the back decking. Yes speakers are underneath.
@smsarchitects Hi yes I have all parts from AC including center console. There is chipping under deck lid logo. The front seat upholstery is I was told all original but from my perspective they have been re done because they are in such great shape. The rear seats need some attention to stitching.
Can you post more pictures of the shelf behind the back seats? Are the speakers there? The leather looks torn around the speaker enclosures but it's really hard to tell from the current photos.
beautiful color combo. do you have any of the orig AC equipment, center console, etc? do the front and rear seats match fabric and color? It is difficult to see in tell in the photos. Is that paint missing near the 911SC decklid logo or just a shadow or something else? Thank you.

I love chiffon white and this is one of the nicest color combinations with chiffon white. GLWA.
@Medaltech Hi I added some under the car pics.

@Siberian24 Hi all stock and No tool kit.
@Bruce914 Hi Cat delete.
FWIW-
Although a little worse for wear, without even looking at detail tire photos, those are 16" wheels, standard on SCs.
Looks like pressure oil fed chain tensioners?
No tool kit?
Is the CAT still on the car?
any underneath photos
@Vdm9 Original paint yes. No readings. I have some service receipts and from the major jobs done, Suspension, Targa Top and CSI. As mentioned I took pride in doing my own oil and service. I do have the 101 Projects by Dempsey and the manual has some records of service from 20 years ago.
Hello and thank you for joining in on this auction. This car has been a joy and reluctantly yet enthusiastic for the next caretaker to have this special Targa SC. California car yet moved to the garage in Colorado in 2020. It is ready for daily driver or next level restoration and is off to a great start for either. Suspension dialed in, Targa Top full restoration to original spec straight and tight, CSI refurb. Maintenance done professionally until I learned to take on all oil changes, transmission (magic blue 201) and tune plug, wire, coil. I appreciate all interests and will respond to your questions a much as possible.
