The Porsche 928 debuted at the 1977 Geneva Motor Show as a range-topping grand tourer with 50/50 weight distribution, luxurious accommodations, and an impressive top speed. Showcased in Paint to Sample Anthracite Metallic over black upholstery, this 1980 Porsche 928 pairs a 5-speed manual transmission with its front-mid-mounted V8 engine. The car benefits from mechanical refurbishments under prior ownership, along with approximately $10k in service items under the current owner. Showing approximately 76k miles on the odometer, this meticulously maintained example is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York.
This 928 was specially ordered in the Paint to Sample shade of Anthracite Metallic (635-9-3). Equipment includes pop-up headlamps with washers, an electric sunroof, integrated fog lights, and dual exhaust tips. The seller adds that the original dealer applied a gold pinstripe, and the factory 16” Phone Dial wheels have been painted to match. New tires were fitted in late 2023. Imperfections commensurate with age are shown in the gallery.
The four-seat cabin is trimmed in black leather with a matching headliner, carpets, and Coco floor mats. Amenities include power seats, air conditioning, power windows, cruise control, a center-mounted analog clock, and an electrically adjustable & heated driver’s side mirror. The seller describes the interior as being in very good overall condition, with only minor wear to the leather and some typical leather dash shrinkage noted. All gauges and accessories are reported to function properly. Although a tail lamp warning occasionally appears when the headlights are on, all interior and exterior lights have been tested and confirmed to be fully functional.
Power comes from a naturally aspirated and fuel-injected 4.5-liter V8 engine, factory-rated at 231 HP and 265 lb-ft of torque, paired with a desirable 5-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels. Under prior ownership, the car reportedly received a thorough mechanical refresh, including a rebuilt alternator, new fuel pump, front and rear brake pads, battery, hood struts, brake fluid, fuel lines, and tires. Approximately $10k in documented service under current ownership includes those listed below, and the seller notes the air conditioning may require a recharge.
This sale will include two sets of keys, a clean title, owner’s manuals, a complete toolkit, a spare tire, and a jack.
The seller would like you to know: “Recommissioned by the previous owner—a noted collector—after an extended period of storage, this 928 received a thorough mechanical refresh including a rebuilt alternator, new fuel pump, front and rear brake pads, battery, hood struts, brake fluid, fuel lines, tires, and more.
Under current ownership, additional work included a bottom-end reseal, timing belt and water pump service, shifter linkage rebuild, and various other preventative maintenance items. Receipts total nearly $10k in recent service.
Everything functions as it should—from the clock and A/C (which may need a recharge), to the sunroof, dome lights, and central locking. The car retains its complete factory tool kit, jack, spare tire, air pump, owner’s manual, and two sets of keys.
This is a documented low-mileage example equipped with its original, correct U.S.-spec 85-mph speedometer. Over 700 trouble-free miles have been added under current ownership.
This early, manual-transmission, PTS 928 is a phenomenal driver-quality car—one that can be enjoyed as-is or taken to the next level. It runs and drives excellently with strong oil pressure, ideal operating temperature, and smooth engine and transmission performance.
A reliable, no-stories, no-surprises 928—fully sorted and ready to drive anywhere. Never intended to sell it, but life has other plans, and I’m now passing this collectible gem on to its next steward.
Feel free to reach out with any questions—I’ll do my best to respond promptly.”

This was my car - two things I would like to share.
For me this was the most enjoyable 928 to drive from the other 4 that we have had over the years (all manual and later cars). In my experience the early 928's have a lightness and charm which give a much more engaging driving experience.
Current owner is a passionate enthusiast who takes great care of his cars.
Hope it goes to a good home where it will be driven and enjoyed.
Rear wiper delete car. I like the pinstripe. GLWA
