This 1980 Porsche 911SC Coupe is the subject of a custom backdate restoration in the rare 1970s Porsche color of Arrow Blue. Featuring RSR-style bodywork with wide steel fender flares, the car is powered by a newly rebuilt 3.6-liter flat-six 993 engine paired with a 5-speed G50 manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. It showcases a black leather and Alcantara interior with blue tartan cloth inserts, vintage Konig GT Sport seats, a MOMO Prototipo steering wheel, a 917-style wooden shift knob, custom LED headlights, Bilstein sport HD struts, Tarett Engineering sway bars, 4-piston Porsche 996 brake calipers, modified exhaust headers, a custom ECU tune, 17” Braid Fuchs-style wheels, and much more. This freshly completed RSR-style backdate is now being offered for auction out of Tennessee.

During the restoration, the car was completely disassembled and refinished in the classic 1970s Porsche color of Arrow Blue (305) using Glasurit paint, while the undercarriage received a high-strength bedliner coating. Wide steel fender flares were installed along with a fiberglass RSR-style front bumper, a removable front splitter, a ducktail rear spoiler, GT-style door mirrors, new signal lights, custom 9haus LED H4 headlamps, custom 6-shooter door handles, newly powder-coated trim in frosted silver, custom Porsche script side stripe decals, a black aluminum decklid grille, and dual center-mounted tailpipes. The car rides on Fuchs-style Braid 17” wheels measuring 9” wide in front and 11” wide at the rear, dressed in 245/45 and 315/35 tires respectively. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin has been completely redone with custom grey German square weave carpeting, black leather and Alcantara upholstery, an Ivory headliner, and Ramsay Clan Hunting Blue tartan cloth inserts. Accessories include customized vintage Konig GT Sport seats, an early-model dashboard, a three-spoke MOMO Prototipo steering wheel, silver aluminum Rennline pedals and floorboards, a 917-style wooden shift knob, a USB charging port, and a programmable 10k-RPM VDO tachometer with a shift light and telltale memory function.

A claimed output of 300 HP comes from a newly rebuilt 3.6-liter flat-six Porsche 993 engine featuring a VarioRam intake system, modified headers, a free-flowing exhaust system, and a custom ECU Tune by Steve Wiener at Rennsport Systems. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a rebuilt 5-speed G50 manual transaxle with a shortened bell housing and a limited-slip differential. The front suspension uses Carrera struts with Bilstein inserts, Sway-A-Way 20mm torsion bars, a Tarett 22mm through-body adjustable sway bar, Turbo tie rods, and a silver Rennline triangulated strut brace. The rear suspension features aluminum trailing arms, Sway-A-Way 30mm torsion bars, a Tarett 23mm adjustable sway bar, Bilstein sport HD shocks, and adjustable spring plates. Stopping power comes from rebuilt Porsche 996 4-piston alloy calipers with new cross-drilled rotors, stainless-steel brake lines, and a 23mm master cylinder. Images of the build process are provided in the gallery.

This sale will include a clean title.

As I said earlier, !! This market does not understand the cost to build this quality car. Once the market recognizes these values $275,000 is an excellent buy. Including the doner costs today can easily exceed $300,000 plus.

@wilhit10 That is just NOT true! I knew when I bought that 993 it was a salvage title!
I would never represented it any other way!
The only negative thing on yelp is from where we restore the guys 914 and he blew it up by missing a shift and spin in the engine up to 8000 RPMs. We still repaired that engine under warranty for him knowing what he had done! . But you can please everybody… Even though you do the right thing!
We wouldn’t be in business this long, if we didn’t do it any other way that we do!
So take that with a grain of salt! Buy with conference we build very nice beautiful cars!

  • wilhit10 (registered bidder) 1 week, 2 daysago

I called this company about a 993 they had for sale. I asked if it had been in an accident, the owner said no, car is clean. I then looked up the vin and found where they had bought the car from this site with a salvage title. So, I would take everything they say with a grain of salt... You might want to look at the yelp review for air cooled classics in TN.

@Joeyv614 We replaced the speedo do to the original being trashed. (see pic in Drive file below)
We are not supposed to put them back to 000000 by law.
The car has only about a 100 miles on since the build. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hMJmZpfJoNdirNL76q3DNB0SXEviyAiM/view?usp=drive_link

Beautiful car. And your reputation is exceptional. Thus my interest. I may have overlooked a comment, however I see mileage shown as 86,144 yet your comments say donor came to you with 102,503. Please comment.

@LunaPorsche Yes, 102,503 miles on the car when we got it.
Yes… it was a mess! But the bones were still very good and that’s all we needed!
The original and trans were taken out and not used for this project.
We always intended to installed a 993 Varioram engine with a short bell housing G50 trans.
The 993 engine is completely rebuilt with reground super sport cams and new MAHLE 12.5 P & Cs. It also has a lightweight 930 flywheel, and clutch set up. The shortened bell housing G5 transmission from 87 911 was completely rebuilt which included steel synchronizers and limited slip differential.
The exhaust system is considerably more free, flowing than the original one. Steve did the tune on the ECU years ago for this combination that we planned on using for this conversion.
He tuned it for 330 hp. It pulls…hard…!

OK, a couple questions about the donor car.
Is there any documentation that came with that car for the mileage? I understand it doesn't matter for the suspension, and the engine has been rebuilt, but it sounds like the underlying chassis is mostly the same. I would be curious about the engine's history too, if you have it, or at least what was updated/replaced during its rebuild.
Does the extra HP over the base 993 engine come from the exhaust/ECU tune only, or are there any modifications to the engine as well that add to that number?
Speaking of the chassis, the google drive pictures show it looks like it was missing its rear window when received, and some of the pictures show rust in the interior (presumably from sitting out in the elements for a while with the missing window). Obviously the car has been repainted and bedliner added like listed to help prevent additional rust and make this a great driver's car, but I didn't see any pictures of an in-between state (rust cleaned/removed, no new paint). How was the previously existing rust handled?
I’m not sure if there’s any pictures from the Paint Shop in this bunch. But there are pictures of what we did on the interior to abate the rust with cleaning and professional rust etching preventative paint.
Everything we have on this project far as photos is in this photo drive. Including pictures of the interior being redone.
Guys “PLEASE” go look at these photos!!! It’s the history of this whole build!
