The final evolution of the original Nissan Fairlady Z (S30) was introduced in North America as the Datsun 280Z for the 1975 model year, featuring a 2.8-liter L28 inline-six engine. This 1975 example was purchased by the seller in 2020 from a father and son who cosmetically restored the car after it had been sitting on the original owner’s property. Under the seller's ownership, this 280Z was further reconditioned and upgraded with a complete engine rebuild, a resealed 5-speed manual transmission, a Godzilla Raceworks fuel system, a Fujitsubo exhaust, a four-wheel disc brake conversion, and 16” Panasport wheels. Having been driven less than 1k miles since the engine was rebuilt, this 280Z is now being offered for auction out of California.

This Datsun was professionally refinished in metallic blue under previous ownership, and the engine bay was repainted to match after the seller’s acquisition. The original 5-mph safety bumpers were removed by the current owner, and an aftermarket Skillard grill was installed. Equipment includes chrome exterior trim pieces, dual polished mirrors, recessed headlamps, hood vents, a single exhaust outlet, a power antenna, and 16” Panasport wheels sourced from Z Car Garage of San Jose. The car rides on Michelin Exalto Sport tires that were manufactured in 2020 and installed within the last 1k miles. The seller notes the paint is in excellent overall condition, apart from a small patch of rust forming under the gas cap. The original bumpers are included in the sale along with additional wheels and tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin was redone with new black vinyl upholstery and matching carpets by a specialist in Southern California under previous ownership. Accessories include bucket seats, a three-spoke Grant GT steering wheel, manual window cranks, a center armrest, an electric rear window defroster, a locking glovebox, and analog instrument dials. The seller notes the clock is currently inoperable and there is no radio installed, although a new retro-style Bluetooth stereo is included in the sale.

The 2.8-liter L28 inline-six engine was factory-rated at 149 HP and 163 lb.-ft of torque. It was completely rebuilt by Industrial Machine & Engine Supply of Santa Rosa under current ownership and upgraded with a Godzilla Raceworks fuel system and a Fujitsubo exhaust. The wiring harness was also redone and upgraded with marine-grade fuses by Haan Auto. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement 5-speed manual transmission that has been resealed and paired with upgraded Futofab CV axles. The original 4-speed manual gearbox is included in the sale. A four-wheel disc brake conversion from Silver Mine Motors was installed by the current owner, and the fuel tank was sandblasted and resealed. The seller notes that the fuel pressure doesn’t hold overnight, which is attributed to the aftermarket fuel pressure regulator by a mechanic’s diagnosis.

This sale will include the original 4-speed transmission, 5-mph bumpers, an uninstalled Bluetooth radio, extra wheels and tires, original fuel system components, the original brakes, a vast collection of spare parts, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “The time has come to sell my beloved ‘75 280z. This car has been my pride and joy over the last several years, but I’m getting ready to start a family and unfortunately, no longer have room in my life to keep her. I have poured hundreds of hours homing in on every detail of this car to get it running and looking the way it is. Additionally, I have a shed full of spare/original parts that’ll come with the car. I have receipts and records of all these parts/services the car has seen throughout its lifetime with me. I hate to have to let it go, but I would love to see this car end up in a loving home.”

It is funny waiting for the two minute clock to countdown before the next bid...that only allows more potential bidders to see it. Quicker bids gets it over sooner, no time for stray extra bidders to pop in.

  • HemiSam (registered bidder) 2 weeksago

I recommend getting it on a lift for photos. The metal worm is a beast on these Z's. Love the paint...same as my first 280.

I can’t post photos in the comments but check out the photo gallery. There’s undercarriage photos towards the end. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, shoot me a message and we’ll get it sorted

  • renchris 2 weeks, 1 dayago

    Can you provide undercarriage photos?
