One of the most iconic BMWs of all time, the E9 generation was the predecessor of the original 6-Series model and represented the brand’s flagship grand tourer from 1968 until 1975. The E9 model range was topped by the powerful 3.0 CSi version, featuring a 200-horsepower 3.0-liter M30 inline-six engine with Bosch electronic fuel injection. This 1972 BMW 3.0 CSi was originally sold in Berlin, Germany, finished in Malaga over black leather upholstery. It comes equipped with a Getrag 5-speed manual transmission, four-wheel disc brakes, Bilstein shock absorbers, a stainless-steel exhaust, chrome bumpers, a sunroof, and 14” Alpina-style wheels. Having undergone a multi-year refurbishment in Germany at a cost of over €42k before being imported to the U.S. about five years ago, this 3.0 CSi is now being offered for auction out of Florida.

Designed by Wilhelm Hofmeister and produced by Karmann, the E9’s bodywork showcases distinctive BMW styling cues including front kidney grilles, quad headlamps, fender vents, and “Hofmeister kink” C-pillars. This example was refinished in its original Malaga paint color during the refurbishment, along with re-chroming the exterior trim. The front windshield, badging, and rubber weatherstripping were also replaced. Accessories include chrome bumpers and body moldings, dual chrome mirrors, a manual sunroof, C-pillar roundels, and 14” ATS Alpina-style wheels. The car rides on 205/70 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires from 2017. The seller notes the exterior is in very good condition, although a minor blemish can be seen where the body meets the hood. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin features reupholstered black leather seats and charcoal carpeting. Accessories including woodgrain trim pieces, front bucket seats, individual rear seats, three-point front seatbelts, a leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel, a BMW-badged wood gear knob, power windows, a heater, analog VDO gauges, and a Blaupunkt cassette stereo.

Equipped with Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection, the replacement 3.0-liter M30B30 inline-six engine was factory-rated at 200 HP. The rear wheels are driven through a Getrag 5-speed manual transmission that was installed in 2019. The car features Bilstein shock absorbers, four-wheel disc brakes, and a stainless-steel exhaust system. The seller notes that the spark plugs were replaced in 2021.

This sale will include the original sales invoice, a toolkit, refurbishment invoices, and a clean title.

@wab_jr, the only information I have is what is in the documents. We were not the owner at the time of restoration.

  • wab_jr (registered bidder) 2 weeks, 2 daysago

@RosnerMotorsports Yes I read the description. I am asking about specific details such as what sheet metal was replaced, what original sheet metal was repaired, floors, firewall, strut/shock towers, gas tank, radiator support. Additionally, what mechanical refurbishment? Differential, suspension components? What trim elements were replaced?
    Thank you

@wab_jr Finished from the factory in Malaga, the Karmann-built body was repainted as part of the refurbishment under prior ownership. Additional work performed at that time included rechroming the brightwork and replacing the windshield, weatherstripping, and badges. Exterior details include quad headlamps, a sunroof, dual side mirrors, and chrome bumpers. Also, The seats were recovered in black leather under previous ownership, and they are complemented by woodgrain trim on the dashboard, door panels, and center console. The paperwork in the pictures are documentation of the restoration

Can you please detail & document what the refurbishment encompassed? Having had a 72 Golf/blue, I am well acquainted with the depth of restoration that these cars can require.
    Thank you.
