The 1970 model year introduced an updated Porsche 911 featuring a larger 2.2-liter flat-six engine. The model range was topped by the high-performance 911S variant, featuring a rear anti-roll bar, larger ventilated disc brakes, Koni shocks, Fuchs alloy wheels, and a fuel-injected 180 HP engine. One of only 729 Porsche 911S Targas produced for the model year, this 1970 example was sold new in Italy, finished in Black over a matching leatherette interior. It was purchased by the seller in 2008 and underwent refurbishment between 2018 and 2024, including a full engine rebuild with upgraded JE pistons, a Dansk sport muffler, and a fender-mounted oil cooler. Accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity confirming matching engine numbers, this rare Italian-market 911S Targa is now being offered for auction by its longtime owner in Texas.
The exterior was previously refinished in its factory Black (700) paint color and features a brushed stainless-steel Targa bar, a removable vinyl-covered roof panel, chrome wheel arch moldings, and aluminum rocker panel trim. Other equipment includes chrome sugar scoop, headlamp bezels, chrome bumperettes with rubber overriders, a driver’s side mirror, front vent windows, a fender-mounted antenna, and 15” Fuchs alloy wheels dressed in Pirelli Cinturato CN36 tires. The antenna, wiper arms, and rear model designation were replaced by the current owner. A full paint correction was performed in preparation for the sale, and the exterior is described to be in excellent overall condition, apart from a chip on the passenger door sill. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The black leatherette interior was professionally refurbished in 2024 with new carpeting, seat rails, and door panels, along with new upholstery for the seats and dashboard. The shift bushings, seatbelts, pedal board, and accelerator pedal were also replaced. Accessories include front comfort seats, folding rear seatbacks, a four-spoke leather steering wheel, analog VDO instrument dials, a heater, and a locking glovebox. The seller notes the radio has been removed, and the speedometer works intermittently at speeds below 30 kilometers per hour. The mileage was reset to zero on the odometer upon completion of the engine rebuild, and the car's true mileage is unknown.
Featuring Bosch fuel injection, the 2.2-liter flat-six engine was factory-rated at 180 HP and 147 lb-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed Type 901 manual transaxle. Standard equipment for the 911S includes a rear sway bar, Koni shock absorbers, and ventilated disc brakes at each corner. An engine rebuild was performed by Rennsport Porsche Works of Sealy, Texas, in 2018, including upgraded JE pistons, a Dansk sport muffler, new fuel injectors, a fender-mounted oil cooler kit, and engine bay powder coating. The brake calipers, lines, master cylinder, and sway bar bushings were also replaced under current ownership. Images of the engine case stamping and Porsche COA are provided in the gallery.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for your interest in my 1970 Porsche 911S Targa. This is a matching-numbers example that recently received a full engine rebuild, ensuring it performs as strong as it looks. The car also benefited from a professional paint correction that brings out the depth and clarity of its factory-correct finish. It retains its original color combination, black over black interior. The car has been well cared for and is ready to be enjoyed by its next enthusiast owner. I’m happy to answer any questions and appreciate your consideration.”

@ngnsd Thanks for shining some light on my curiosity and confusion at the same time ! Very well said, and
sounds not far from the truth 😀👍🙏
Inflation is affecting everyone. Uncertainty in the markets, higher costs.... I have a business and things are really flat for me. People that buy this level of car are affected. Those with crazy money don't care. I just picked up a 69T for a lot less as well. That said, it is a great time to buy. I think the market will rebound myself.
What's going on with the early 911s market, and especially in this case, a beautiful and very solid 911S models?
These are the very essence of the true 911s.
All you need to pay attention to, is, how special cars are (pre 1974), how good the overal shape of these cars that Singer, PLUS many other reputable outlets and some grassroots "backdate" the much new and powerful 911s just to look like the early 911s !
I'm very surprised to see that the highest bid on this 911S, was only $77,000 and the owner now asking for $100,000 which is still a heck of a deal to me .
I know the market has cool down, but it's not like you can wish to buy an early 911S in this caliber and find it and buy it the
next day .
It was not long ago that the pre 1974 911S would sell and/or with the asking prices of $160,000 to well over $200K .

2 hours left on this beautiful 911S Targa! I will be readily available to answer any questions or comments! Good luck to all bidders!
@Stlcm the heat exchangers work, confirmed by my mechanic today.
@sdagley i had accidentally pulled it off when i was rolling the window up for photos. You’ll see I put it back on in later photos. Didn’t realize until I was done with the photoshoot.
Picture 142 shows the driver's side door switch has the rubber cover in place, unlike the passenger side switch which is missing the cover in picture 179.
Bid in the amount of $50,000
It appears the heat exchangers aren't supplying heated air to the cabin any longer. Secondly, the driver's side door switch appears to be missing for the interior courtesy lights. Can you elaborate?
@tommeron the wiring for the radio is still there. A radio can easily be installed in the car.
Hard to beat a black on black targa! Can’t wait to see what this goes for. GLWTA

@tommeron I am having my technician check today for the wiring.
The targa bar is seated in the same position on both sides of the car. It seals with the windows and all aligns well. I will get some more photos uploaded of that area.
@Vwrabbitgti the metal strips on the fenders were a factory option for these cars. While I do not know if it came original with the car from the factory, it really complements the looks of the car.
The metal strips on fenders are not original right ?
Bid in the amount of $30,000
@htxtarga any idea if the radio’s wiring is still there?
Also, the passenger side targa bar looks slightly misaligned in the photos? Can you provide additional photos of that area and any comments. I believe the stainless cover is adjustable. Thanks!
@EricGF there has not been any rust repair during my ownership. The original radio had been removed when I purchased the car.
Was there any rust repair, what happened to the original radio?
