Up for auction is this beautifully presented 1969 Porsche 911 E Coupe finished in Polo Red. Marking the final generation of the original 2.0 L 911, this fuel-injected 1969 example is said to have undergone a complete nut-and-bolt restoration from the frame up under previous ownership. Approximately 800 miles have been driven since the completion of the restoration with over $15k worth of maintenance carried out this year in preparation for sale including a full engine-out service and reseal. Reported to be in exceptional overall condition, this classic 911 E is now being offered by its seller in Massachusetts accompanied by service records and the original spare tire.
During previous ownership, this 911 was completely disassembled before being refinished in the historic Porsche color Polo Red. Records show that the right front fender was recently replaced with a genuine Porsche part to improve upon the repair work performed during the initial restoration. The paint on the car is said to be outstanding and the exterior brightwork is also shown to be like-new (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery). Genuine Fuchs wheels are equipped which come dressed in brand new Michelin MXV tires.
Inside, the black leatherette interior has been refurbished to a very high standard. New carpeting was installed, the steering wheel was replaced, and the seats were reupholstered along with the dashboard and door panels. The cabin remains stock in its configuration and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be working properly.
This 911 E is equipped with a 2.0 L type-901/11 flat-six engine which is fitted with Bosch mechanical fuel injection. 140 HP is sent to the rear wheels by way of a desirable 5-speed manual gearbox. Recently in 2020, this 911 underwent a comprehensive engine-out service in preparation for sale at a cost of over $15k. Maintenance items addressed during this time include:
- Full Engine Reseal
- All Gaskets Replaced
- Valve Adjustment
- New Fuel Tank and Lines
- Replace Front Control Arm Bushings
- New Shocks
- 4 New Michelin Tires
All of the recent maintenance was done through the previous owner’s Subaru dealership and supporting invoices are provided in the photo gallery. The engine is stamped with the serial number 4381937 and the gearbox is stamped 901/07. Just under 800 miles have been driven since the time of the restoration and this 911 is reported to be in excellent running order.
This sale will include a set of 3 keys, a car cover, recent service records and the original spare tire. For any enthusiast in search of an early Porsche 911, this fully restored 1969 911 E is not to be overlooked.

@flataircooled the entire car was restored down to nuts and bolts. No known accidents, but if i was restoring a car, and there was a newer version of something available, I would use that as well.
@flataircooled Great eye. And yes, according to the numbers/vin/etc. This just has a sporto engine swapped in to an otherwise manual car. The photos provided are of the trans (obviously) and don't show the engine number. I hope the seller knows (and buyers) that is is a beautiful car, worthy of some excellent bids - this side discussion is just on the numbers and documentation of what is currently present. This is, after the "automotive enthusiast marketplace"!!
@utopify Thanks. I was trying to figure out if this was a Sportomatic car that was changed to a manual, or a manual trans car that had a Sporto engine swapped in.
Also, I see the front hood latch panel is from a later car (with drain holes). Is the history of front end damage/repair known?
@SPIDER48 I was referring to the engine originally being in a Sportomatic car, that is a 901/11 engine type. I know the trans is correct to the car, a 901/07, which has been confirmed in the recently uploaded photos (Thank you @bostonmotorsports)

The engine number is what I was assuming would begin with a "6". This information/clarification is just for documentation purposes, there is not a problem here.

It’s not à sportomatic changed in Manuel gearbox and the pedal box can’t be adjusted
@utopify I'm not sure what you are looking for us to clarify, as previously stated, this is the engine that was in the car when the previous owner bought it, as well as the engine that was serviced by the previous owner.

@flataircooled You are correct, the engine type and number should be 901/09 and begin with the number six. This engine type is a sportomatic engine, 901/11 (based on photo 66), but the number doesn't correlate to a 901/11 and needs to be clarified by the seller. The engine number should be 6298XXX.
Pcar is uploading the photos of the numbers on the engine and transmission. We are told this is what was in the car when it was purchased by the previous owner.
The chain tensioner was replaced with the factory unit.
@Katanakid The pedals are out of alignment, clutch looks ok, but the brake pedal is too low. The FSM will tell you (or any good manual) how to adjust pedal height.

I cannot tell from the part number on the the service records if the chain tensioner was replaced with a stock unit or if it was upgraded to a newer hydraulic unit.as installed in a 3.2 and a post-1980 idler arm.

The engine was completely refreshed/resealed in March of 2020 by the previous owner. In fact, over $15k worth of updates were done in 2020. As for a different engine number, I am not sure what you are referencing. I’ve sent pcar a photo of the engine # for posting.
Shouldn’t the engine number start with a 6? Can you post a picture of the engine number? Is this a different engine than was in the car when sold at auction earlier this year? Thanks

@VWMinnesota Great question, as far as the line-up, the E was just under the S. 911T would be the base @110hp, the 911E would be next replacing the L of 1968 and adding fuel injection @153hp, and then the S @177HP.

@maze the previous owner of the car WAS the dealer- so I am sure that there are somethings he didnt mark up on himself
I'm a little confused by the labor rates charged by this dealer.
If I read it correctly they charged somewhere between $5 and 6.40$ per hour.
Even at that rate it's more than I get paid when I work on my own cars......:(
