The second generation of Chevrolet’s Corvette, the C2, was the first to carry the Sting Ray name and introduced a redesigned chassis with improved steering, brakes, and suspension. Powered by a 327 ci L79 V8 mated to a 4-speed manual transmission, this 1967 Convertible is refinished in its original Marlboro Maroon over a black interior. The seller reportedly acquired the vehicle in 2020 from the original owner, a U.S. Navy veteran who purchased it in St. Louis, Missouri, in late 1966. Following a comprehensive three-year exterior restoration and professional engine rebuild, this Corvette is now being offered for auction out of Kentucky.

This Corvette Convertible underwent a professional body restoration and was reportedly refinished in its factory-specified Marlboro Maroon by the specialists at That’s Minor Customs in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Equipment includes a black soft top, split chrome bumpers, pop-up headlights, a driver’s side mirror, vent windows, and front fender vents. The seller notes that some emblems retain original patina, including very slight pitting in the chrome. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The black interior has been fitted with period-style aftermarket seats and new carpets. Amenities include manual windows, a wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel, a vertically mounted radio, a polished ball shifter, a locking Corvette-branded glovebox, and an analog clock in the center stack. The car was originally equipped with air conditioning, which has since been removed as it no longer functions. Original knobs show wear but remain fully functional, and minor cosmetic wear is noted throughout. The directional signal cutoff switch has been replaced twice and currently requires manual deactivation after signaling.

This Corvette is powered by a 327 ci L79 V8, which was reportedly rebuilt during the restoration. The engine features a single four-barrel carburetor, a chrome air filter housing, and finned Corvette-branded valve covers, and was factory-rated at 350 HP and 360 lb.-ft of torque. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission. A new clutch and pressure plate were installed, the undercarriage was refinished, and all nuts and bolts were reportedly replaced.

This sale will include a clean title, a car cover, and aftermarket Corvette owner and restoration manuals.

The seller would like you to know: “Thanks for visiting my auction. This car belonged to a long-time friend who bought it while in the Navy in St. Louis. He drove it for years, then wanted to paint it, so he parked it and ‘never got back to it.’ This Corvette was a barn find, purchased in 2020 from its original owner, who acquired it in late 1966 in St. Louis. After years of extensive use (reportedly 500,000 miles) the car was stored in a garage for a planned paint job that never occurred. I wanted to restore it to ‘driver condition’ for him.  It went to my brother, a PHD automotive engineer in Detroit, and after a 3-year restoration and a Woodward Dream Cruise drive, he brought it back to me.  I can no longer drive a manual, so someone else needs to enjoy it.  It feels better at 80 than at 55 degrees.  I wish I did.  And unfortunately, my friend passed before it was finished. This was an expensive joy ride, but what a beautiful and lovingly restored Stingray.”

Good morning. I appreciate all the interest in my Corvette auction. I want to respond to any questions but hopefully they can be posed before 11:00 AM as I am out of pocket until 3:00 this afternoon. I will do my best to check in but it will be more difficult for me. Thanks again for your interest.

  • rmccle (seller) 2 days, 21 hoursago

@shapeskis thanks for the question. There’s a small tank on the passenger side fender in the engine bay. You can see the cap in the engine bay photo. Just like other cars you don’t want to open it without protecting from steam when hot. Currently new coolant.

  • shapeskis (registered bidder) 2 days, 22 hoursago

Just out of curiosity and ignorance on my part how do you fill the radiator?

@eight_bit_micro one other thing I pointed out in my summary is that the blinker return switch is not working. Driver has th manually turn it off. Bee replaced twice but the dismantling of the steering wheel and column is more than it’s worth. Blinkers do work well except for that plastic auto cut off.

  • rmccle (seller) 3 days, 8 hoursago

@eight_bit_micro , my brother says there wasn’t a carrier on the car when we got it. I know that the way those pipes are now the original spare set up would require some reshaping.

  • rmccle (seller) 3 days, 8 hoursago

@eight_bit_micro let’s see… I’ll have to check with my brother tomorrow about the tire carrier. Hadn’t thought about that. I think the only block number shows poorly in one of the restoration photos at the bottom of the pics. Sorry but I’m in FL now so can’t look at the engine. As I say in my summary, I can’t assure the engine is the original except that the original owner told me it was. Lights, gauges, wipers, odometer, speedometer, heat, radio, headlight motors all working. Don’t know about defrost. Haven’t had it in cold weather. I had to put a cut off into the line from the water pump to the heater core. A standard move as cars that didn’t exit exhaust to exterior pipes got extremely hot in hot weather. In cold weather one twists the valve to open it back up. Otherwise it is uncomfortable in hot weather. If you review the list of expenses, you’ll see that most all of these things you asked about were replaced as new or professionally restored. Nothing on the car was in operating condition. There is one photo with the lights up and on.

  • eight_bit_micro (registered bidder) 3 days, 8 hoursago

@rmccle a few questions please. Are the stampings still present on the engine block, and if so, what do they show? Do you have the spare tire carrier and hardware? And is anything not working? Lights, gauges, wipers, odometer, heat / defrost, radio, headlight motors, etc. Thank you.

Sorry, no hardtop. The convertible top is new.

  • Autotrend (registered bidder) 6 days, 19 hoursago

@rmccle Thanks. no mention of a hardtop. does the car have one?

  • rmccle (seller) 6 days, 23 hoursago

@Autotrend , the sales invoice says "Posttract Axle 370OR, so I presume its 3.70 ratio rear end just below the 4.11.

  • rmccle (seller) 1 weekago

Sorry, I don’t know the ratio. I’ll see if it’s in the material’s I have tomorrow. Yes it is positrac. Confirmed when I did under carriage pics. Also on original invoice.

  • Autotrend (registered bidder) 1 weekago

what is the rear axle ratio and is it a posi rear end

@vero Thanks for asking, but no. This morning I asked my brother who dismantled the car this question and he said they were so badly oxidated and rusted that he tossed them with other unusable parts.

Are all of the A/C parts that were removed available??

  • rmccle (seller) 1 week, 1 dayago

Thanks for looking at my auction of this beautiful 1967 Corvette. This was a frame off restoration but not one to be judged. It is a very nice driver for fun and C&C. But I would drive it anywhere. Current milage (post restoration) is 547. I do have a book of photos of the restoration. I will monitor the auction every day and respond to questions as best I can. Sorry, but I cannot confirm it to be numbers matching except for what the original owner told me. I can say that after our disassembly the engine block was machined as 327/350 specs by a Detroit machine shop that has done these 327 engines for more than 30 years. Also, the original dealer invoice lists "350 V8 Turbofire $105.35; the transmission is "4 speed cl Ratio Trans. $184.35" and the "Posttract Axle 37OR $105.35." Total price December 13, 1966 was $4,350.00.
