Widely regarded as one of the most iconic automobiles ever produced, the Jaguar E-Type was famously described by Enzo Ferrari as “the most beautiful car ever made.” Finished in British Racing Green over tan leather, this 1966 Jaguar XKE Series I Coupe underwent extensive customizations in 1997 at a reported cost of over $30k. The result of a reported 500+ hours of labor, the build features a Goodwrench GM 350ci V8 paired with a Corvette 6-speed manual transmission with overdrive, a custom exhaust system, reworked suspension with V12 XKE components, a widebody conversion, a modified bonnet, Lotus bucket seats, and custom interior appointments. Acquired by the seller approximately 14 years ago, this uniquely built and well-maintained XKE is now being offered for auction out of New York. The XKE Series I is sought after for its glass-covered headlights, small front grille, and split chrome rear bumper. Recently stripped to bare metal and refinished in British Racing Green, this fixed-head coupe has received a custom Big Block-style hood, steel widebody fenders, custom dual exhaust outlets, and aftermarket staggered-width chrome wire wheels. The car rides on BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires with approximately 90% tread depth, measuring 225/60/15 at the front and 275/60/15 at the rear. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
Inside, the driver is greeted with tan leather upholstery complemented by green carpeting and a contrasting black dashboard. Equipment includes Lotus-sourced bucket seats, a wood-rimmed 3-spoke steering wheel, a custom armrest, a dual cup holder, and a reconstructed transmission tunnel. Other amenities include analog Smiths instrument dials, toggle switches, rubber floor mats, and pop-out rear vent windows. The seller notes that the passenger door only locks from inside the cabin, and a heater is not equipped.
Power is provided by a Goodwrench GM 350ci V8 paired with a Corvette 6-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Mechanical upgrades include an oversized aluminum radiator with an electric cooling fan, a custom exhaust manifold and exhaust system, and a reworked rear end sourced from a V12 XKE. Additional updates consist of a refreshed suspension with replaced front, rear, and parking brake pads, an upgraded brake master cylinder, and rewired gauges. The seller adds that all fluids have been recently changed.
This sale will include a registration, spare tire, jack, and lug wrench.
The seller would like you to know: “This was an exceptionally well-done build. I have over 30k in receipts, which don't include the donor car and the over 500 man-hours. I have owned this car for approximately 14 years, and it has been a real pleasure to drive.”

@Bruce1954 Thank you for confirming the VIN. It must have been the clarity of pictures 128 and 129 that made me see something other than 1E32660.
@Tiiguy Yes,
Does the A/C work?
@Shallowlife I checked over the car and was not able to find any numbers on the front cross member and under the rear plate. I think the paint and undercoat may have covered the numbers. I was told there is a number on the inside firewall behind the gauges.
The plate that’s riveted to the body says the vin # is 1E32660, the engine # was 7E8199-9, the chassis # is 4E23895 and the gear box # was EJ7295.

@914Racer :)
In my state the VIN verification only needs done when you bring a car from a non-title state in order to issue a correct Iowa title.
Complimentary weekend stay at the Montauk hotel for winning Buyer?
For NY State buyers, do you even have to take it to a DMV office for VIN Verification? I don't remember the procedure for cars.
I know I didn't have to do an VIN Verification for a couple recent transfers: last year for a NY to NY transfer, or a MA to NY two years ago.
FYI: In Cali, you only have to do it for out-of-state vehicles.
@Shallowlife I checked the internet for Vin locations. There seems to be a number of them. I will take a closer look on Tuesday and get back to you.
I seem to recall one stamping behind the rear plate. Think there's another somewhere as well? Would be interested what they say. I also dropped a note to my local DMV office. With the holiday, I might get a read how my state would handle it. Thank you for your time.
Hey fellas just saying-if your wife needs to approve your purchase or you want to turn cats into politics then this probably isn’t the car for you. However if you just love cars this one is badasss. Perfect interpretation of old and modern.
@Shallowlife When I get back this weekend I will check to see where other locations the Vin would be.
@BTTBZ06 The plate is the name of a hotel I’ve owned in Montauk, NY since 1997. It has nothing to do with Trump.
Hate the license plate. It eliminates over 50% of all buyers. GLWA !
@Bruce1954 Then am I correct in reading the numbers in photos 128 and 129 as 1K32660 and 1532660 respectively? If so,, is 1E32660 on the car anywhere?
This is exactly what the DMV inspector is there for and what he or she will ask. A seemingly small error such as this could complicate issuing a corrected title on transfer. Thank you for your valuable time.
@Shallowlife The Vin # on the registration is
IE32660. Hope that’s helpful.
@Shallowlife You are right about not being a titled car. It has a transferable registration. The registration is in my office. I will work on having someone text me a copy of it and get back to you.
I'm sorry for lack of clarity:
Of the 3 numbers I mentioned, which is the car registered as? I'm guessing New York is not a title state and when binging cars in on registration only, I've had to have a DMV investigator inspect the car . Since it is their job and the purpose of the visit, it'll come up.
@Shallowlife The is registered as a 1966 Jaguar XKE .
I believe the builder added medal the the original bump on the hood to extend it.
@DrT No he did not.
What is the car registered as?
The listing says IE32660
Picture 128 (looks like) IK32660
Picture 129 is 1532660
I'm presuming the hood bump is fiberglass.
Thanks
Did the "I'm going to buy this car" buyer come & see the car before his sudden sickness onset?
@Helenna Sorry, no they don’t.
@dukeyr I was told there was a last minute medical issue. I believe his wife nixed the deal.
Bid in the amount of $25,000
ditch plains beach montauk

Love the plate!
Bid in the amount of $13,000
So the bidder that proudly declared ‘I’m going to buy this car’ then proceeded to win the auction forgot to pay?
@helena and @bertsboaf, the seller has had that plate on the car for long before trump was president. Believe it’s just named after a street in Montauk.
Do original parts come with the car?
Awesome build and looks like a blast to drive. The license plate is awesome! GLWA!
Love the license plate
