For the 1964 model year, Porsche unveiled the final iteration of its original sports car, the 356C, featuring standard four-wheel disc brakes to enhance handling and reliability. Built with Karmann bodywork, this 1964 Porsche 356C 1600 Coupe is presented in Signal Red over black leatherette upholstery. Acquired by the seller in 2023 from Nova Scotia, it has since been kept in a climate-controlled museum facility. Now available for auction out of Florida, this example is accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and a collection of service records.
This example was factory-specified in Signal Red and was reportedly refinished before 2006 following damage repairs to the driver’s door and pillar. Details include a twin-grille rear decklid, body-color bumpers with chrome overriders, integrated rear exhaust outlets, a polished driver’s side bullet-style mirror, gold model lettering, pop-out rear quarter windows, chrome brightwork, and a rear-mounted luggage rack. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin is appointed with black leatherette upholstery and matching carpets contrasted by a body-colored dashboard fascia. Accessories include front lap belts, a black-finished three-spoke steering wheel, manual window cranks, analog VDO instrumentation, a quartz clock, a heater, a digital AM/FM radio, and a locking glovebox. The seller notes the odometer was reset to zero upon refinishing the body, the speedometer cable was replaced in 2021, and a Blaupunkt stereo will accompany the sale.
The air-cooled 1,582cc flat-four engine features dual carburetors and was factory-rated at 75 HP, with power sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transaxle. Rebuilt Zenith carburetors were installed in 2017, followed by the replacement of the engine gaskets and push rods in 2018. That same year, the clutch and flywheel were balanced. An ignition tune-up was completed in 2020, and subsequent maintenance since 2023 has included carburetor adjustments, a new battery, an oil temperature sensor, and an engine oil change. In 2024, the brake master cylinder and axle shaft boots were replaced. The engine and transmission are reported to show matching numbers, with the accompanying Porsche Certificate of Authenticity listing engine #712828 and transmission #76455.
This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, service records, and a Blaupunkt stereo.
The seller would like you to know: “This is a museum deaccession and has been a featured car in our museum for the last 2 years.”

Bidders,
I wanted to share with you this timeline that was included in the sale and created by the previous owner/seller!
1964 First owner was a dentist or physician – Dr Charles White. Lived in Watsonville just south of San Francisco.
1979 Invoice shows work on car in 1979 with Dr. White listed as owner at Pacific Grove, California. About 30-40 Km south of Watsonville.
1981-94 Jill Lerwold (lawyer) was 2nd owner – brokered by Bruce Carter
Car was hit on driver’s door, low impact collision while parked, in about 1985-1990. Damage to driver’s door and pillar. No damage to frame. Stood for 15-20 years. Odometer approx. 44,000. Her husband had recently passed away and she said that she was just not motivated to get it repaired and may not have appreciated the car’s value.
Jill’s brother Brian Marcinak (San Francisco) took the car and restored it. Bare metal restoration, many new parts. All original body parts retained. Rebuilt engine and transmission. Spent about $26,000 on restoration.
2006 Brian sold car to Thomas Fey, his son-in-law, 3rd owner
2013 Car is in Connecticut
2014-17 Michael Kalinski was the 4th owner – lived in Newark, Delaware (South of Philadelphia)
2017 Acquired by Daniel Schmitt & Co., St. Louis, Missouri
2018 Jan-Feb: Engine rebuild by Reid Van Luxury Import Service – Rock Hill, MO: $4731.
