Produced between 1959 and 1971, the Mercedes-Benz W111 full-size luxury car showcases the brand's legendary build quality and distinctive “fintail” bodywork. The original model range was topped by the 220 SEb variant, which features Bosch mechanical fuel injection for its M127 inline-six engine. This 1963 Mercedes-Benz 220SEb Cabriolet was acquired by the seller in 2004 after it had been undriven for about 20 years. The car underwent a gradual refurbishment, including replacement floorboards, a full repaint, new red leather upholstery, and rebuilds of the engine and 4-speed automatic transmission. This classic Mercedes-Benz convertible is now being offered for auction by its longtime owner out of Florida.
Nicknamed Heckflosse or “fintail” for its distinctive pointed rear fenders, the W111 was originally designed by Friedrich Geiger and adapted into two-door coupe and cabriolet variants by Paul Bracq. This 220SEb Cabriolet was completely refinished in red and fitted with a new black convertible soft top after the floorboards were replaced in 2022. Equipment includes a chrome radiator grille with a raised hood ornament, chrome bumpers and rockers, a driver’s side mirror, front vent windows, a red convertible boot cover, a polished tailpipe, and 14” wheels with body-colored hubcaps and 205/70 Maxxis MA-1 tires. The seller describes the exterior as being in excellent overall condition. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin has been refurbished with new red leather seat upholstery, door panels, carpets, and restored wood veneer trim. Accessories include a two-spoke steering wheel with a chrome horn ring, manual window cranks, ventilation and heater controls, analog VDO gauges, a dashboard clock, and a retrofitted Mercedes-Benz AM/FM/CD head unit. The seller indicates that the left rear window mechanism operates slowly.
Factory-rated at 120 HP, the 2.2-liter M127 inline-six engine features a Bosch mechanical fuel injection system. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a rebuilt 4-speed automatic transmission, and braking is handled by front discs and rear drums. The chassis includes an independent double-wishbone front suspension and a rear swing axle. The seller notes the engine was rebuilt by a Mercedes-Benz specialist approximately 10k miles ago, and a new exhaust system has been installed.
This sale will include a spare tire and a clean title. The seller notes that no VIN tag is present on the vehicle; however, the duplicate title lists “111023” as the VIN, which corresponds to the beginning of the engine bay stamping.
The seller would like you to know: “I have enjoyed the car for 20-plus years. I am selling it reluctantly as I am 74 years old and am downsizing. All maintenance is up to date. I have always garaged the car.”

Looking forward to having this car. I had the exact copy in the late 70's, beige in color, drove it everywhere. It was not in as good shape as this one is.

@jslutzmd . Yes they are included in the gallery
Any pictures with the top up available?
Thank you. When I bought the car it was already silver from the original white with red interior. I restored it to be what I wanted without thinking about resale as I never intended to sell it but my circumstances have changed.
With all due respect, I’ve owned older classic Mercedes and this one has been fixed up pretty nice to a point, but changing the original paint color affects the value. I watched the bidding and the bids were in the right range. I wish the owner success in selling the car. There’s a buyer out there.

Unfortunately I am not tech savvy enough to upload pictures myself. The vin on the data card is 111023-12-035598 perhaps you can figure out the color from there, I believe the original color was white. I just noticed that one of the photos of the driver carpet looks yellowed. It is not . All carpeting was redone at the time of new paint job about two years ago. The car is always garaged when not being driven. Unfortunately I have been unable to drive my car since I had bypass surgery 2 months ago. This is another reason I have sell my prized possession.
Gorgeous cabriolet. Is the top manual or powered? Guessing manual. Do all electronics and/or accessories function as designed?
Pictures of undercarriage and rear trunk wells would be a valuable asset, along with pictures of work being performed. Is the color red exterior and red interior on the data card from the factory. What paint was used and color number? Can you supply a copy of the card as mentioned as I would think it would be valuable to see it
