The Aston Martin DB4 Series III was produced exclusively for the 1961 model year with approximately 165 examples built in total. An evolution of the original DB4, the Series III retained Carrozzeria Touring’s signature Superleggera aluminum bodywork and Tadek Marek-designed 3.7-liter inline-six engine while incorporating a new rear light design, twin bonnet stays, and cabin improvements. This example has been refinished in Goodwood Green over tan leather upholstery and benefits from a comprehensive restoration by Cheshire Motor Company of Toronto, California, between 1995 and 1996. More recently, it received over $40k in servicing throughout April 2025. Acquired by the seller from an Aston Martin dealer in August 2002, this beautifully presented DB4 Series III is now being offered for auction out of New Hampshire.
The lightweight Superleggera body, constructed using a tube-frame design by Carrozzeria Touring of Milan, was first unveiled at the 1958 London Motor Show. Boasting Italian design and construction methods, the original DB4 marked the first Aston Martin to be assembled at the marque's Newport Pagnell facility in Buckinghamshire, England. This Series III was professionally refinished in period-correct Goodwood Green by Cheshire Motor Company as part of the restoration throughout 1995 and 1996. The Series III introduced a new taillight design, featuring individually mounted circular rear taillights that replaced the single “cathedral” unit of the prior generation. Additional exterior details include a front-hinged bonnet, a hood scoop, fender vents, chrome bumpers with overriders, polished trim, twin exhaust outlets, and 16” wire wheels with two-eared knock-off hubs dressed in Michelin tires from 2011. A collection of images is provided in the gallery.
The cabin is trimmed in tan leather upholstery with matching door panels and carpets, complemented by a contrasting black dashboard, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and chrome trim. The seller states that Cheshire Motor Company refurbished the instrument panel, roof lining, and carpets as part of the aforementioned restoration. Accessories include low-back bucket seats, a rear bench, a Smiths analog clock, and roll-up windows. The radio knob requires reaffixment, and the accompanying parts are stored inside the glove box.
Power comes from an all-aluminum 3.7-liter DOHC straight-six engine with twin carburetors, factory-rated at 240 HP. The rear wheels are driven through a David Brown 4-speed manual transmission. Throughout Cheshire Motor Company’s restoration, the axles, suspension, brakes, and wiring harness were overhauled. Most recently, service in April 2025 at a cost exceeding $40k included an oil change, fluid flushes, an engine-out reseal, replacement of the oil pump and oil cooler, removal and overhaul of the carburetors, resealing of the timing cover, replacement of the water pump and oil pan, clutch and flywheel replacement, resealing of the transmission, replacement of the rear exhaust manifold, electric fuel pump replacement, fuel sending unit replacement, ignition repair, electrical wiring repairs, and battery replacement. Documentation is provided in the gallery.
This sale will include a clean title and a battery charger.

The owner, due to age, has determined that this fine vehicle must go to a new owner who will fully appreciate this pedigree collectible automobile and drive it.”

For all those watching as the auction winds down, we were the shop tasked with getting this Aston ready for daily driving, if that was the owner's choice. The goal was to make the vehicle start and run reliably, drive smoothly, and perform exactly the way it should, without overlooking anything. We went through every item, down to the interior illumination and gauge wiring. No stone was left unturned.

Approximately how many miles have been added under its current ownership? Was it sitting for a year plus prior to the recent service? Very nice looking car, and the invoices are very well written.

Thank you for your response.
I believe it is factory engine and transmission. Purchased the car from an Aston dealership years ago. I was not given any factory papers that you speak of.
Does this Aston have the original factory engine and transmission? Are there an factory or heritage documents to support the numbers? Thank you! It is a beautiful car!
