Ferruccio Lamborghini founded the Lamborghini Trattori company as a returning war veteran in 1948, repurposing surplus military equipment for agricultural use. Following the enactment of a law in Italy to promote the sale of Italian-made agricultural machinery in 1952, the Lamborghini Trattori company launched its new line of smaller DL “Lamborghinetta” tractors to success, distinguished by bright red bonnets over a grey chassis. One of the lighter variants in the model range, favored for use in Italian orchards, this 1959 Lamborghini DL20 weighs in at under 1,000 kg and is powered by a 1,400 cc air-cooled twin-cylinder diesel engine. It features a three-speed dual-range transmission, a portal axle, an original hydraulic lift, a tow hook, and a rear power takeoff shaft. Restored between 2023 and 2024, this collectible Lamborghini DL20 tractor is now being offered for offered out of Italy.
This tractor has been refinished in its original combination of a grey chassis and mechanicals with a red-painted bonnet, seat, and wheels. The seller notes the bodywork has been restored, new badges were installed, and the tires and inner tubes were replaced. Equipment includes a forward-hinged hood with black forged and light alloy Lamborghini emblems, dual headlamps, a polished alloy shift lever, a three-spoke Bakelite steering wheel, a contoured sprung steel seat, an oil gauge, a tow hook, a hydraulic lift, and a rear power takeoff shaft.
The DL20 air-cooled 1,400cc twin-cylinder diesel engine features Bosch mechanical fuel injection and produces 21 HP at 2,000 RPM. The rear wheels are driven through a three-speed dual-range transmission and a portal axle. During the restoration, the tractor was serviced with new engine gaskets, an overhauled dynamo, an overhauled injection pump and diesel injectors, a refurbished fuel tank, a new clutch, new hubs, bearings, rubber hoses, gearbox boots, a new exhaust, battery, and front suspension pins and bushings.
This tractor is offered with a bill of sale and Italian registration documents.
The seller would like you to know: “This extraordinary looking tractor is an unusually early model of the Lamborghinetta DL20, dating back to 1959. A rare low-slung model that was used in Italian orchards, only 120 were produced. Equipped with the original hydraulic lift. The tow hook is present. The tractor has original Italian documents and registration. This model offered six forward gears – three high ratio and three low ratio – and two reverse gears. The tractor was restored between 2023 and 2024. Maximum speed 20km/h. The deep-tread tires are clearly brand new. The rubber studs from the molding process are still present on both the front and rear tires, and one of the rear tires still has its barcode. The bodywork and trim of this restored tractor appear intact. The period details are also numerous and noteworthy. The Lamborghini name is highlighted in red on the lower sides of the tractor, twice on the left side. The forward-hinged hood features a pair of black forged and light alloy Lamborghini emblems. a good amount of charming period details. As for the rest, the condition appears restored and first-class. The only gauge present is an oil gauge. On the right side of the tractor is the dipstick to measure the oil level. Polished alloy gear shift paddles handle gear selection and other mechanical functions. There is a slim three-spoke Bakelite steering wheel with the original ‘Lamborghini’ knob. The contoured seat sits on a curved spring and is finished in red. The familiar Lamborghini script is highlighted in black on the back. This model is powered by the 1,400cc version of the air-cooled twin-cylinder diesel engine used at the time. It originally produced around 21 bhp at just 2,000 rpm, more than enough power for a workhorse of this size, weighing less than 1,000kg. A classic farm machine, full of 1950s Italian charm and appeal, and with the most evocative name in the business. As such, it will fit perfectly into any collection or even as a centerpiece of a farm, attraction, or event. If you love Lamborghinis, vintage cars, and tractors, this piece of Italian history must be yours. The tractor is in Bologna, Italy.”
