Available for auction is an illuminated double-sided Porsche/Rothmans Racing sign. The sign measures approximately 54” inches in length, and 28” inches in height, with a width of 6” inches. The sign is constructed of an aluminum frame with a translucent front/rear face featuring both the Porsche and Rothmans Racing logos as well as the profile of a Porsche 962. Along the bottom, the sign reads “’82 Le Mans 24 Hours Race Winner”.
The seller states the sign is powered by 220v circuitry, features a European-style plug (a 110v adaptor is available) and fluorescent tube lighting. The aluminum frame is showing some signs of aging in the form of corrosion and light stains (please see gallery).
Rothmans Racing began supporting factory Porsche race teams in 1982 when the company was already established in the automotive world. In 1982, they won the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1-2-3 with the iconic Porsche 956. They would win the series three more times throughout the 80s. Rothmans Racing ceased its involvement with Porsche in the late 1980s. The seller states the sign weighs approximately 70 lbs. The buyer is responsible for shipping, shipping insurance, handling, and transactional fees.
The seller would like you to know: “This vintage double-sided Porsche sign was recently purchased from a retiring Indy Porsche mechanic in Switzerland. It was crated and shipped to my facility in Quogue.”
