Available for auction is an illuminated Alfa Romeo Milano dealership sign. The sign measures 58.5” in diameter, a depth of 4” and a weight of 40lbs. The sign features the pre-1972 “Alfa Romeo Milano” logo. The seller states the sign face was imported directly from a collector in Italy many years ago and the sign retains its original vibrant colors that were applied in that period to the back side of the sign in multiple layers of translucent paint.

The sign’s light box was meticulously crafted in stainless steel, complete with a retaining ring which holds the sign face securely in place. The inside of the light box has a strong cross support for hanging the sign securely on a wall. The sign is four inches deep and there are four welded bars inside the light box on which custom LED tape light tracks are mounted, complete with opaque, white covers. These covered LED tape lights provide a diffuse, backlit light source just like the original, fluorescent bulbs. Replacing the fluorescent light ballast and bulbs with LED tape lights reduced the weight of the sign by over 40 pounds and provides a light source that consumes just 36 watts and will last up to 50,000 hours! The seller states the LED lights are also tunable and dimmable so you can change the brightness and hue of the sign, all from a compact remote control.

The seller states the price does not include shipping and the buyer is financially responsible for having the sign professionally packaged, shipped and insured to their destination of choice. The seller states the sign has some patina in the form of cracks and chips. There is a chip in the first “A” in Alfa, as well as cracks in that same “A”, on the “R” in Romeo, and in the areas surrounding them. There is also a crack in the red cross which extends into the green serpent. The cracks and chips have all been professionally filled, repaired, and reinforced using an acrylic solvent cement as well as a two-part bonding adhesive. The sign face has been wet sanded up to 3000 grit and then machine polished to a beautiful, smooth luster to restore the original look of its surface. The seller states when the sign is lit up, some light passes through these cracks. Whether you are an Alfa Romeo enthusiasts or a collector of automitive history, this sign is an exeptional addition to any garage or collection.
The buyer is responsible for shipping, shipping insurance, handling, and transactional fees. PCARMARKET is not responsible for anything lost or damaged during shipping.

Thank you @skeetswin I get it and I understand its not you but just a want for it to arrive safely. Based on the value of the sign the shipping just eats into a huge margin for anyone needing to ship it. I will probably just wait and see if one ever comes up for sell in my area to avoid the packing and shipping hit.

@jazzyg72 I shipped the sign face from Italy to Seattle for about $1,000 when I bought it years ago (including packing). I could build strong boxes out of bubble wrap and cardboard for the sign and the light box and ship them when people I know go race in Northern California. I’m guessing that would bring the packing and shipping cost down to about $1,500, perhaps less. It’s a bit of a chicken and egg scenario but suffice to say, professional crating is really expensive, and heavy but likely the safest bet. I just want the successful bidder to get the sign safely while spending as little as they can on packing and shipping.

Thank you @skeetswin I dont know where that leaves me as you can imagine $4K is insane and more than it cost me to ship my last super car across the country enclosed. I dont really feel comfortable bidding at this time until I have a real number and I dont know how you can give me that now. It sounds like best option is for this sign to go to someone who is based in the Northwest and can will call it from you.

@jazzyg72 Hi again. The estimate for crating and shipping to SoCal came it at approximately $4k. That being said, I think there are some ways to cut that cost significantly and still get the sign there safely and securely. I’ll gladly do my part to help reduce the cost of packing in any way I can. As for shipping, that all comes down to who you use for the job.

    ok

  • skeetswin (seller) 3 monthsago

@jazzyg72 I’ll get the packaging costs and crate dimensions for you and leave the shipping and insurance cost estimates up to you (or other bidders) to source. I really think it is important to pack and ship the sign face separately as noted in the ad or in the very least, in a crate that has two separate compartments.

@skeetswin Ok thank you, I would also be interested to know the shipping cost to So. California if possible.

  • skeetswin (seller) 3 monthsago

@jazzyg72 I don’t have an estimate for professionally packing the sign for domestic shipping but I will get one. Please give me 24 hours.

  • jazzyg72 (registered bidder) 3 monthsago

Have you had an estimate done yet on what the cost will be to have the sign professionally packed for domestic shipping?
